  • Secluded property in paradise

"We really enjoyed our time on Windermere Island. The house is very nice and the bedrooms are spacious! Each has access to a bathroom including the single twin bedroom. The living area is open and nice for enjoying family. The home is nicely furnished and had lots of books, games, snorkels, and fins. There were lots of beach towels as well. We hired a chef, Kaynell Scavella, to prepare our meals and she was delightful. We planned each meal in advance and the food was amazing! We all miss Kaynell and Pebbles and the conch fritters. You can take the pool chairs to the beach - but it's not easy. So, we rented beach chairs and extra kayaks. The double kayak at Hamilton House is very nice. However, it's not recommended that you use these at the beach in front of the house as the water is rough and not as smooth as the Savannah Sound. Bobbette's (caretaker for the home) husband was able to take these over to the sound where the waters are calm, beautiful, and full of sea turtles. We really enjoyed kayaking there each day and it's a short bike ride away. The beach is very private (I think we saw 3 families the entire week). The home is situated near other cottage like homes that flank each side of Hamilton house down towards the beach (not visible in the picture of the property). I was thankful that we had a car as there are so many beautiful places to explore on Eleuthera. We spent one morning at Oceanview Farm near Governor's Harbour riding horses next to the ocean. I highly recommend this if you love horses. It was a treat for the group. We also hired Donald (Eleuthera Tours) to take us out to the Marker Cays. We snorkeled and found lots of sea biscuits and conch shells there. The boat was very small, but it was very nice and perfect for our family. We rode our bikes each night over to a dock at the end of the street to watch the sunset each night which was our favorite way end to each day. The home has good wifi and we only had one power outage (which is very common in the Bahamas). Fortunately, it didn't last very long. We traveled over to Harbour Island ($5/per person) for the day which was really fun. We rented a golf cart ($50) there and enjoyed lobster quesadilla's at Sip Sip. Finally, Matthew Simon (property manager), was extremely responsive and provided lots tips and helpful information to make our vacation truly special. If you are looking for a secluded piece of paradise - you will enjoy Hamilton House."

  • Comfortable House on Beautiful Beach

"We visited Water's Edge in November - 2 couples each with a 9-10 month old baby. It was perfect for us! The beach just down the stairs was excellent for playing in the sand and snorkeling when the water was calm (about half the visit it was too rough for good snorkeling) and walking for miles in either direction hardly seeing anyone. Absolutely beautiful. A quick 10 minute drive across the island to Ten Bay Beach on the Caribbean side was a great alternative when the water was rough or to watch the sunset. We explored other beaches on the island as well (Lighthouse Beach was especially amazing) and have much more to see on our next visit! Jim and Holly were super nice and helpful, as were the caretakers Ada and Doyle. Ada cooked a delicious dinner for us the last night we were there. They also arranged our rental car, which belonged to their son-in-law. This was especially great when we got a flat tire on our last morning and they fixed it straight-away so we could get to the airport on time (it's still island time, so always give yourself some extra!). The house has everything you need - spices, bags, great kitchen utensils, etc. We didn't bring our own food (already so much stuff traveling with two babies!), and it was expensive but we found everything we needed at the local stores in Governor's Harbor. We cooked most meals at the house but ate out at Mate and Jenny's (really tasty pizza!) and Buccaneer's Club (tasty but a bit expensive like everything on the island!). I would highly recommend Water's Edge. Get ready to relax and enjoy your own island paradise!"

  • Fulfillment of a Quest!

"We stayed at Culmer Cottage 6 days/nights and enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing time in and around Tarpum Bay. The purpose of this trip was to re-visit one part of our honeymoon trip of 45 years ago! We found the village had changed some, but not completely; it still exudes the authentic culture of the Bahamian people, who are very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed walking around Tarpum Bay, talking with the locals, listening to the "fun and games" by the children outside even after dark. Where can you hear that anymore? That's something back in the 50s! Living in Culmer Cottage during this time was just as comfortable as it could be, with a full kitchen, interesting books to peruse, a patio to enjoy the view of the Bay. We were well taken care of with Kervin and Brenda, the caretakers, and they're adorable grandchildren. When we finally decided to visit Tarpum Bay, Lynn, the owner of the house, was an A+ Helper! She answered all our questions especially about travel. The communication between us was fairly often, either by email or phone, as we are not accomplished long-distance travelers and a little nervous about the flights. But she effectively put our minds at ease. We did not rent a car because neither my husband nor I felt comfortable driving on the "wrong side of the road"!! Even though we missed out on some great adventures because of that decision, our purpose for coming to Tarpum Bay was fulfilled, including a few quiet adventures anyway! So whatever your reason for reading this VRBO website, 'Experience Real Eleuthera', know that you're on the right path for a warm-weather vacation specially tailored for you. You won't be disappointed."

  • Cozy and comfortable

"This villa is located right on the end of the point in Governor's Harbour. It's clean, well built, and with great views of the ocean on three sides. The bathroom is a bit tight, but the shower is good and roomy. The downstairs is plenty big enough for two people, and I love the upstairs bedroom. The owners are local Bahamians, both very friendly and helpful. They own the small café next door, and live about ten minutes away. The villa is located right next to the port, so if a ship comes in you get to see it unload. We didn't rent a car, so we walked everywhere, including to French Leave beach on the other side of the island. The town is quaint, the locals very friendly and helpful, and there are good grocery stores and restaurants. A wonderful, affordable accommodation, and I wouldn't hesitate to return another time."
