  • Delightful, quiet retreat

"We are just finishing a 9-day stay at Valerie's cottage, and we would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a quiet retreat. The cottage was perfect for the three of us (2 adults and one teenager) with comfortable beds, a wonderful porch, and a good kitchen for cooking meals. We arrived late on a Sunday, and Valerie was kind enough to point out that the grocery stores would be closed. She asked us for a list and got us enough supplies so we could make breakfast the next morning. This kind of thoughtfulness was a hallmark of her treatment of us throughout the week. Since there were three of us, Valerie let us borrow an extra one-person kayak so that we could explore Moriah Cay, which we strongly recommend doing. When we were playing in the pool, Valerie got out extra inner tubes, and she allowed us to use the laundry machine on her porch. She was accommodating, responsive, and gracious. We took full advantage of the pool for quiet time when we did not feel like venturing very far or the beaches were windy. The luxury of having a pool almost all to yourself was delightful, and the fact that it was heated was heaven. You do need a car to get to George Town for supplies or to explore. Our favorite places to eat were Tropic Breeze (great lobster poppers) and Shirley's. We took a day to go up to Barraterre, and we found a little place called the Fisherman's Inn (ask where it is because it has no noticeable sign). It was the best fish we had all week, and the cheapest meal by far. If you are cooking at the cottage, be sure to check out the meat market. Shirley let us know about their rotisserie chickens, and the steaks we got there were delicious. All in all, our stay was lovely, and the cottage was just the quiet retreat to rest, relax, and enjoy one another's company. Thank you, Valerie!"

  • Peaceful and Beautiful

"Fabulous! This home was perfect for my family of four. The location is absolutely second to none - very peaceful and beautiful. We spent a relaxing week at this lovely home. The beach is directly in front of the house and we spent hours walking and playing on the soft, powder-white sand and swimming in the clear, blue water. We purchased groceries at Exuma Markets, Smitty's, CNK Liquors, and the liquor store in George Town. Although we enjoyed several lunches and dinners at various restaurants around George Town, we prepared many of our own meals in the well-stocked kitchen. My teenagers enjoyed the wifi and we all slept well on the comfy beds. The guest book in the house has lots of information from past guests about several restaurants and activities on Great Exuma. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this beachfront home and are trying to find a way to make our way there again!"

  • Wonderful spacious and clean island property

"Had a wonderful time at Palmetto Place. Took in all of Marj's recommendations, and especially loved Forbes Hill Beach. We also really enjoyed relaxing at the house - a true home away from home - in paradise! Hope to be back another winter... cheers Heather and Martin"

  • This a best family vacation.

"We just returned from a week with our three adult children and spouses. The house is gorgeous, great views, great spaces for together or alone time. Easy dock for tie up of boat a must for island excursions and snorkeling. A fabulous well maintained pool for swimming, reading a book or evening star gazing. Being located near the Beach Club restaurant was an added plus for those times we did not feel like cooking. This was probably some of the best prepared food on the island. Though we also recommend some local fares. We found it best to plan lunches out and evening meals in or at the beach club. The kitchen is very well equipped for preparing meals and having the outdoor kitchen was a huge plus for the men to show off their skills. We brought in frozen meats for grilling and sandwiches, cheeses, preferred snacks, pita and English muffins. Everything else we purchase at the local markets. We rented cars which gave us added freedom to explore the island by land. Everyone left rested and happy."
