  • Awesome house & location on the island we loved it

"For 15 years we have been renting homes. Nothing compares to the experience we had here in San Salvador at "Whispering Palms". This nce house so close to the beach is a feast for the eyes at every turn and perfectly comfortable for a nice and relaxed beach vacation and to explore and island that is so perfect and easy in the Bahamas that it is hard to believe ther price we had to pay here. We loved the location of this house and the only neighbor there was. It was so perfect that we had the perfect sport to relax and enjoy the sun and the perfect beach as well as the quiet nights and wonderful sky by looking out the windows and trough the huge front door to watsch cruise ships and container ships go by far out on the horizon. We especially loved the outdoor shower, well hidden right behind the house. It was everything we had hoped for. We were very much surprised by how well the kitchen was stocked and as the owners show in there pictures, you could look out the ocean and feel the nice breeze coming trough and it was just enjoable how easy life could be on a simple island in the Bahamas and in this nice house we rented. I brought a lot of spices, but wouldn't have needed to as so much was at that house. At the end we had to leave quite a few things behind for the next visitors as almost everything was there that we needed, that is very unusual to see and we could not believe the price we ad to pay for it. I did quite a bit of cooking and loved spending time in the kitchen with that breathtaking view. The only neighbor of this house was very charming and friendly, we were also invited once for a dinner and had a great evening overlooking the ocean and hearing the stories about the island. If we'd had more time, we would have extended our stay as it was just so perfect and calm with so much time at an almost "PRIVATE" beach with only once to see another couple there. We did rent a car for the week we've been on the island as the closest grocery store is a 10 minute ride away from this property. If we ever go to the Bahamas again, we WILL BE BACK!! We have our 25th wedding aniversary in 2 years and do think to get there again with our Grandkids to explose the Sea and this great island together. It was the best place that we have ever rented as a vacation home! Thank you to the Owner for sharing this lovely house, we enjoyed every minute there! You sure have a juwel, well hidden on a great island. Would highly recommend this property to anyone."

  • We loved every day we spent there.

"My husband and I had a blast in Ida and Terrance cottage. It was our first time on Bahamas and we wanted to get as local as possible. From the first minute of our arrival we realized that it was a right choice: 15 minutes boat ride to the cottage from Staniel Island, turquoise water, warm greeting by our hosts made us happy end excited. The cottage is smartly decorated with conditioner and ceiling fan. Very comfortable bathroom with a spacious shower stall, fully equipped kitchen and complimentary water. Upon arrival we have to do food shopping: convenience store was 20 minutes walk and a short distance to the dock across the bay. First time in our lives we used kayak to "go" to the grocery store. This chore turned out to be a fun kayak trip to the local food store and a bar where we found everything we needed: beer, rum, gin, tonic, and wine. We are not picky so eggs, milk, serial, canned food, and freshly baked coconut bread were sufficient for our breakfasts and lunches. Several nights we enjoyed delicious suppers in the local restaurants. And a couple of nights we cooked the fish that my husband caught in the ocean right from the beach 200 feet away from the cottage. Hiking, swimming, kayaking occupied us all week long and if we could we would stay there forever. Ida and Terrance checked on us almost daily and were very responsive to our needs. My husband brought all fishing gears but forgot fishing poll at home. Ida and Terrance brought us several polls the same night that made my husband very happy. We highly recommend this cottage to all people who prefer to stay off beaten tourists tracks and go with the flow. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Ida and Terrance."

  • It don't get better than this (Song by the Barefoot Man)

"Swept Away could not have been better, which is more than I can say for VRBO which lost my first attempt at writing an excellent review. From the outset, it was a real pleasure working with Barry. Not only did the rental go smoothly, but he also made recommendations for travel to Staniel Cay from Nassau and boat rental. We had originally thought to go to the Staniel Cay Yacht Club, but it is always fully booked, but, having now been to Staniel Cay, renting Swept Away was a far better option. We were two couples over 70, with 3 of the 4 having lived in Nassau for a minimum of 12 years each. So we knew the Bahamas well, and consider the Exumas to be one of the best, and arguably the best, vacation spots in the whole Bahamas. The private plane from Nassau provides some exquisite views of the colors of the Exumas. Swept Away was ideal for two couples. It is bright, comfortable, and has a magnificent 360 view as it is on one of the highest points of the island (about 60'). This also means it gets the breeze, which adds to the comfort and obviates the need for the a/c for a lot of the time. The golf cart is a big plus for getting around. If you're looking for great night life, this is not the place for you. The Yacht Club is lively, but there's nothing else. The food at the Yacht Club is very good, and, given the cost of getting anything to Staniel Cay, is quite reasonable. The Taste and Sea restaurant has good Bahamian food, but they soaked us on drink prices. Big Dogs usually has Pig Feet Souse, which you should try if you want a real Bahamian specialty. If you are able to provision up before going to Staniel Cay, you should do so. The 3 grocery stores have limited selections, and, if the mail boat doesn't come in, may run out of even staples. You can't go to Exumas without going out in a boat. Barry's caretaker, Berkie Rolle, runs a store and a marina and rents out boats. The water is maybe the most beautiful in the world and there are plenty of islands with beautiful beaches close by, so you don't need to be an expert boater, just learn how to "read" the depth of the water by looking at it. If you want a (mostly) self-catering, peaceful, relaxing, reasonably priced, idyllic vacation, you would have to look hard to beat Swept Away and Staniel Cay."

  • Perfect trip !

"Thank you to Denise & Phil for their incredible house in paradise. Since our first contact until our last day in their house, they were the perfect hosts. The house is just perfect. We enjoyed taking our breakfast outside every morning. The beach club at the resort was awesome. The pool was amazing. It was the low season so we had the pool for ourselves everyday. Thank you again Denise & Phil for great vacations !"
