  • Spacious, attractive and relaxing - a wonderful house

"We’ve stayed at Moonpie twice now, once in 2015 and once in 2016, and both times it has provided the perfect base for our holiday, and we’ll definitely return. The house is really attractive, so that staying there is part of your special holiday experience. It’s an incredibly easy, relaxing house to spend time in. It's really large and spacious and looks stunning, with interesting art work, but it’s also designed to be lived in and enjoyed. The main living and dining area has been designed for both comfort and practical usage, and as the other reviewers say, the kitchen is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The seating for the inside and outside dining areas is really comfortable and the outside deck is enclosed by mosquito nets, so although we enjoyed eating out at restaurants a few times we also loved relaxing on the raised deck area day time or evening, enjoying the breeze and the views. The local beach at the end of the road is great for a walk or a dip – the colour of the water is literally turquoise. In terms of exploring the island, you can make your visit as lazy or action packed as you wish – after two visits there are still lots of beaches for us to discover (either with snorkelling gear or a good book), and I defy you to bump into anyone else on any of those beaches! Thank you to Colin and Charlsie Anderson for an amazing stay."

  • Great place to stay; comfortable, clean, and everything works

"This one level cottage - built by owners and hosts Sara and Dan - features a basic floor plan with decent sized rooms nestled within the island vegetation. It is well equipped with all the needs you'll require to enjoy the quiet location and near-by island beach just a pleasant 500 yard walk from your door. The front porch - like all other open areas - is well screened and the evening cool and light breezes were super. The ceiling fans in the main rooms provided all the comfort we needed. We loved all of it! Palmirage Cottage is convenient to Long Island's central artery - the Queen's Highway - and a rental car is essential to maximizing your travels. Best of all, Sara and Dan know the lodging business well and were always helpful with local knowledge and assisting with special needs. Subjects like veggie gardening, building, and boating drew enthusiastic responses. Much to enjoy here!"

"We had the fortune to spend 6 amazing days in the most secluded cove on Long Island. This REALLY is your very own private beach. The photos of this place simply cannot do it justice. I have never seen so many colors of blue in my life. Everything from setting up the booking to checking out was perfect. Brian and Laurel were great to do business with. Emails were answered almost immediately with well thought out, informative responses. The guide to the island and home they provided us was the most detailed guide I have ever received for a vacation rental. They thought of everything. The nearby caretakers, Mark and Jill were amazing too. Very welcoming but also totally respected our privacy, so the best of both worlds. To say the house is well stocked would be an understatement. We could have thrown a huge party for dozens of people, though there were only two of us with the run of the entire place. They really do think of everything. There was enough snorkeling gear to supply a small army so you don’t need to bring anything with you. The large screen projector upstairs was such good quality hi def I felt like we were at the theater. The beach is simply perfect. The water was so calm it was like a giant swimming pool full of fish. We saw a HUGE ray and lots of other fish. Interesting snorkeling along the entrances to the cove where the topography made it very scenic. I am sure there were a lot of other things to see on Long Island, but we couldn’t leave the cove. It was just too perfect. The cabana on the beach even has electricity and a ceiling fan! At night, the stars were spectacular. We had a moonless night so that and the lack of any light pollution made star gazing the activity of the night. One night we hired a local Bahamian lady to cook for us. It was one of the highlights of our trip, conch chowder, lobster tails and pasts. Plus she was a delight. Otherwise the kitchen was actually nicer than the one in my home so if you want to DIY, this place is great. Gas grill right outside the kitchen and a charcoal grill on the sand in the cove! If I could give this place 10 stars, it would be more appropriate. Go, get off the beaten path and relax. I can still hear the gently lapping waves."

  • Best Getaway

"We thoroughly enjoyed the week we spent in this home. We are already planning our next trip! About the home: This house is the perfect place to stay on the island. Sitting on the deck, you feel like you are are the only person enjoying the view. There are actually three decks, two facing the ocean. The rooms each have their own air conditioning systems so you will stay cool and comfortable at night. The bathrooms have nice tile, and each has a window with a screen so you feel like you are outdoors while you shower. The upstairs living area is very nice. The kitchen has a huge sink, and beautiful granite countertops. On either side of the living area are large glass doors which allow you to enjoy the view even while indoors. Directv and wireless internet are provided, as well as a local phone. A washer and dryer are also on site, this allowed us to pack less and saved us from an overage fee with the airline. Our favorite place at the house was the hammock- our 22 month old took her daily naps on it. About the island: The locals were very friendly and more than willing to help us find (mostly) hidden places, like a beautiful lagoon, as well as necessities, like the local grocery store. We spent our days exploring Dean's Blue Hole, walking at the Columbus Monument, taking an Eco tour of Sandy Cay and the surrounding keys, and hiking to Adderley's Plantation Ruins. Everything was so untouched and beautiful- complete paradise. Clarence Town was so picturesque - the churches are a must see. For the adventurous, the nearby Stella Maris Resort has a cave full of bats! However, our favorite thing to do was simply sit by the water at Santa Maria Beach. The water is so clear, and beautiful- we found starfish as we snorkeled."
