  • Spectacular!

"As beautiful as it appears in the photos, it's even better in real life. The views are spectacular in every direction -- a mix of aqua blue water and beautiful tropical foliage. Add to that the sound of the ocean and birds singing. Inside, the house is comfortable throughout and beautifully furnished. Ruth, who prepares amazing and delicious meals, is such a delight to know. We enjoyed swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, walking the beaches (Lighthouse beach is a must and not too far from the house) and, of course, relaxing. We would love to return!"

  • Pure Bliss!

"Our family of five have just returned from a bliss-filled week on Long Island, Bahamas. We have visited our favorite island destination a dozen times or so over the past fifteen years and have rented a number of different accommodations in various locations. All have had their pluses and a few minuses, but Flip-Flopping' ticked all the boxes. Its unique layout fit all our needs. With its three separate units connected by bridges, everyone had their own personal space. The main house has two futons for additional sleeping; so it is ideal for three couples or a family of six to eight. The kitchen is more than functional, and the porches perfect for relaxing with a panoramic view of the secluded "bush" setting. There is a toilet and lavatory in each unit. One unit has an indoor shower, another has a unique cantilevered outdoor shower off the bathroom, and there is a large outdoor shower downstairs. Taking a warm winter night shower under the myriad of stars above is a surreal experience. There is a mid-level patio with four lounge chairs , perfect for sunbathing. All areas of the accommodation were well-cleaned, and the decor was tropically beautiful (and I do mean beautiful ... kudos to the decorator!) Cheryl is a most friendly and helpful manager in every step of the rental process. The home is not beach front. There is a partial ocean view from the top floor porch. It is, however, only an easy five minute walk to a white powder beach with Long Island's trade mark aquamarine hued waters. You will need to rent a car as the nearest grocery store is a fifteen minute drive south. Chez Pierre is the nearest restaurant which is a similar drive away. Besides, you will want to venture out and about to find your own favorite beach on the island and visit the island's other attractions. We would whole-heartedly recommend Flip-Flopping"!"

  • Best stay at Harbour Island yet

"This was our fourth visit to Harbour Island, having previously stayed on yacht, hotels, a different cottage, and now, Afterthought. This was the top! The description of this lovely place is spot on! The location is absolutely primo. All the amenities make for the perfect stay! The pool makes for a wonderful addition. The housekeeper Is punctual (daily!) and attentive, and was in and out before you knew it. My motto is that when you discover things that excel is quality, value, predictability, and stand out above the rest, you try to re-discover them frequently. We are already planning a return trip to Afterthought!"

  • Great low key getaway

"This was the perfect mix of relaxation and activity. Swam or snorkeled most every day. Kayaked several times including out to Jolly Hall beach. Several visits to Stocking Island. Rented car for several days to get to Tropic of Cancer Beach, Santana's and ultimately back to airport. Several nights of rake and scrape music, appreciated that could find good food and music early as we are early to bed early to rise types. The day long excursion was well worth it. The owner, George was a pleasure to deal with. Unit was comfortable had everything we needed. Other than sleeping spent most of our time there drinking coffee on porch to watch the sunrise, or unwinding at the end of the day with a little Bahamian rum. Hideaways was very low key clean and friendly resort. There a three resorts in this little cove each with a restraunt and bar, so you can literally walk down the beach for dinner. We were also able to arrange for the water taxi to pick us up several times from the dock several hundred yards down the beach."
