  • Absolutely perfect

"What an amazing expirence!!! We stayed for 4 nights & 5 days for our 10 year anniversary, at the beginning of September. I have an obsession with the beautiful and amazing country of Belize and my husband knows it all too well. He chose this island, knowing how much I would love it!! Fred is super helpful and will answer any questions you may have. The island is absolutely amazing. Beautiful clear water, surrounds the entire island, you can see schools of small fish, trumpet fish and star fish right from the edge. If you like to be in the water make sure you bring snorkel gear, there is PLENTY to see!! The kayaks are super fun! The house has all the basics you will need. You will have to cook your own meals, but it is all worth it with the spectacular views that are right at your feet. This is not a 5 star hotel with all the amenities, the house is somewhat basic and electricity and water conservation is a must. (But honestly if you are spending all of you time in the house, something is wrong with you.) The stars at night are endless, and the illuminating plankton are magical. The nights were very windy and were a little hard getting used to. The doors and windows stayed open to keep the breeze coming in, which felt a little weird, but if you close everything, it gets warm fast. Overall it was the most perfect gift and expirence I could have asked for!!! If you are adventurous and don't expect fancy amenities, you will LOVE Bird Island!"

  • Wonderful, small town beach get away

"Hopkins is not the big resort spot. It is a small town, third world beach spot. It's out of the way, it's quiet, the roads are full of pot holes (not the main hwy to get there, those roads were great, DO NOT TAKE COASTAL HWY>>> NOT SAFE< NOT PAVED. We greatly enjoyed our visit. If you are looking for a great place to stay in a laid back beautiful beach environment, this is a great spot. If you are looking for the 5 star experience, this is not for you. Coconut Row was great, staff was pleasant and well trained, facilities are very nice and clean. Wonderful place to experience the local life in Belize. If you go, Coconut Row is the place to stay."

  • Nice cabana

"We stayed at Compass Rose for a week. On arrival, the cabana was really clean and was exactly as shown in the pictures. It's very cozy and good size for two. The weather wasn't at its best and we started the week with lots of rain for the first 2 days. We almost needed the kayak to get to the car! The driveway was flooded for the entire week and the only dry spot was beside the garage, closer to the conch shells conga line! The observation deck is nice and we saw a dolphin on our last morning. Beautiful sunrise when it's clear. We took the kayak for a quick paddle but couldn't really go anywhere because of the wind and the chop on the water. We visited Placencia, the Mayan ruins but couldn't visit the blue hole in the park or cave tubing since everything was flooded from the heavy rain! Our day out fishing and snorkeling was nice though. Rough ride to get to the cay and reef but great fishing and snorkeling. We booked with Mirko and Lincoln was our guide and he was a great young man! We learned a few things about Belize and he snorkeled with us and was able to find some neat stuff! We even had some great footage of an eagle ray. Back to the cabana... nicely appointed, it has everything you need for cooking. Only thing missing would be a good non stick pan but other than that, it was great. With all the rain, the bathroom developed a funny smell but again, we had LOTS of rain! I would recommend this cabana for a couple but could be tight for 4 adults. Gayle was great providing all valuable information, directions, restaurants, etc. 5* for the owners!! Mirko checked on us on Sunday by phone - we couldn't call him since there was no credits on the phone so we kept in touch with Mirko via email asking him to call us instead. All worked out.... although we didn't have Internet service on the rainy days. Oh yeah, one last thing, I think our internal organs are starting to return to their original spots now. Hopkins road is awful, but you should try driving it especially after the rain! We didn't dare take the bicycles, it would have been bumpy and very muddy! Good week overall, nothing can be done about mother nature! Thanks Gayle for sharing your cabana!"

  • A great find!

"The property was beautiful. We enjoyed the screened in porch for hours listening to the symphony of birds and rain on the roof. The caretakers and property manager were very helpful and we highly recommend this villa. Be prepared for difficult road conditions."
