"I have rented through VRBO numerous times and have to say that TIPSY GECKO exceeds 5 stars. This rental is as close as you can get to an all inclusive. Kelley, the owner, was always responsive to questions and was very thoughtful and provided detailed information. She was also available for a call to discuss the rental further. Mabel was there to greet us with a special welcoming drink and flowers. She reviewed all the needed information including how to connect to the FREE wi-fi and FREE voice over IP phone so those needing to call the states would not be charged a fee. Mabel also reviewed how to reach her with a cell phone that was provided for local calls. If you are traveling with teens; encourage them to use an app such as skype to decrease unnecessary phone charges. Mabel also arranged all excursions to ensure our stay was hassle free. Packing light is highly encouraged for Mabel does laundry daily; honestly I wish I had packed a few days of clothes, swimsuits and 1 semi-dressy outfit to venture out for dinner. Also, no need to pack those bulky beach towels for they, too, are provided. Since Domingo and Mickey (nickname he shared) provide three days of cooking (breakfast, lunch and dinner) eating out was minimal; especially since many of the excursions provide lunch. The meals were heavenly and they served the meals as well as did the dishes. We did not rent a car and used the golf cart to get to town for shopping and exploring. Everyone we encountered greeted us with a smile and was very friendly. Unfortunately, our stay ended all too soon and we had to return to reality, doing our own laundry and cooking our own meals. Additional thoughts for consideration. We went during the raining season and this may have made the water off the beach very muddy so we spent the majority of the time in the pool. Also, the mosquitoes were horrific but learned that when we applied sun screen followed by repellent; they tended to leave us alone. Also, the pier tended to be mosquito free as the breeze kept them away. I highly recommend this rental and many thanks to Kelley, Mabel, Javier, Domingo and Mickey for a once in a life-time vacation."

  • Best location in Placencia!

"Los Porticos is a perfect location and has an amazing beach and pools. We explored many other properties/beaches while we were there and when we got back to Los Porticos it confirmed we made the right choice. The beach is kept clean and the lounge chairs with comfortable cushions were available around the pool or on the beach. Moreover, 1C is ocean front upstairs with the private pool for unit 1 that is right on the beach. The grounds are very well kept and the staff is very helpful. The property is close to town while not being in it. Many of the other rentals we considered are a long drive to the village and we found ourselves going to the store or restaurants often so the short drive or bike ride made it easy."

  • Paradise found and then some!

"Gail and Paul have certainly created a paradise in Placencia. We traveled with another couple and had a wonderful time exploring the village, cooking delicious meals in the villa’s well-stocked and modern kitchen, and relaxing by the pool and palapa’s (yes, there’s more than one!). After spending the first part of our trip sailing around the Caye’s, the villa was a great place to unwind in comfort. Gail and Paul are incredibly helpful and kind – you couldn’t find friendlier people in Belize. Paul gave us the lay of the land – the good markets, restaurants, and shops to stop-in. And Gail arranged everything from dinner reservations to a car rental for us. We feel lucky to have experienced Starfish Villa and can’t wait to come back and visit again!"

  • More than we expected

"I have to say that our hosts are very gracious. Jim picked us up at the airport and then showed us around town before taking us to our place. When we walked into our waterfront studio we were stunned. It was beautiful and very spacious. Our hosts further provided a cell phone with numbers already on the phone. They also provided the transportation upon leaving to the airport. This was more than generous of them to take the time with this. The studio has a full kitchen, with living room area available. Laundry facilities right on site in fact just out your door. The bed and bedding are clean and comfortable. There is a queen bed, one single and a double futon. You will have a private deck or you can sit out on the pier and lounge or swim. They provide beach towels, kayaks, bicycles, and it has a safe for your valuables. While we were there the birds were nesting and we had their music to wake up to with baby birds leaving their nests. ( A little noisy but we enjoyed) It is only minutes to downtown but I would suggest that you get a cart if you are going to go to town often especially if it is during the day (between 9 am and 5pm) It is very hot. We walked (which is not far or hard) but if you do that make sure to do it early or later in the afternoon when the sun is going down. And take your water.... The views from the deck or pier are of the canal and mangroves it is a beautiful setting to just enjoy. We actually only went to town if needed for groceries, eating out, or on a trip. We spent a couple of days just lounging on the pier. Truly restful. The sunsets are spectacular. We were there during Easter weekend and thankfully this property is not located in the downtown area, so downtown noise does not disturb your peace. Make sure to have your bug spray because early morning or at dusk the no see ums and the mosquitoes come out. But to be truthful we did not suffer from them too much. It was about 20 minute walk to Yoli's where we caught DaytripperDan for the catamaran snorkeling trip. About 10 minute walk to the M&M gas station to catch Barebones Monkey River trip with Percy And we were picked up and dropped off at our personal pier by Mark from Cayequest for a snorkeling trip to Pumpkin Caye How could it get any better than that. Trust me when I say this was a gem of a place and I truly appreciate the care our hosts took in our welfare. I hope to go back again. Thank you Jim and Cindy for a fabulous vacation...."
