  • Amazing views of the valley and the sea.

"Photographs do not do justice to the stunning views from this villa. We stayed a week at La Puntilla and will go back. The house sits high atop a hill with a breathtaking 270° panorama over the valley. You can see the sea from every room, with mountains in the distance. You get an extra 45 minutes of sunshine this high up, followed by sunsets in a constantly changing kaleidoscope of colors. This really is a unique property. We were met by Laurent, who showed us around and gave us keys and a local Dominican cell phone to use on our stay. He lives nearby and was available by text 24/7. The Dominican Republic has an erratic electricity supply, but this house had a battery backup system. We experienced no problems. The kitchen had a dishwasher, which was helpful. The bathrooms were clean and modern. There are four outdoor spaces: a covered loggia with seating area and dining table, the pool area with lounge chairs, a yoga platform down some stairs, and a large balcony upstairs. There are two identical master bedroom suites inside which open onto the balcony. There is a third sleeping space off the landing, which we did not use. I recommend an SUV for the drive up the hill. We spent two afternoons at Playa Grande, which is a 9-minute drive. That beach is the best on the north coast, with modern facilities and amenities (including bathrooms), but it is large enough that you can feel like you have it to yourself. There are no crowds during the week. Any food vendor by the parking lot can arrange for beach chairs and will bring you food and drink. It is very reasonable. We used restaurant #5. In town, there is a market which stocks canned and paper goods and liquor but not much fresh food. There is also a pharmacy, as well as banks, ATMs and restaurants. The French expat community is noticable here. There are two modern American-style supermarkets in Sosua, 55 minues west by car. If you fly into Puerto Plata, you will drive right by them. We flew into Santo Domingo, though, so that added a grocery trip for us. These groceries have everything except good steaks. For those, go to a butcher shop or just buy them at home, freeze them and hide them in the bottom of your checked bag. :-) This was a fantastic experience. I highly recommend it!"

  • Unsurpassed relaxation and beauty

"All I should really say is that this was our 3rd time visiting Sunrise for our annual girls weekend of 18! Just the thought of pulling up in front of the beautiful villa and having Chris, Sandy, and the wonderful Sunrise crew waiting on the porch to welcome us keeps us coming back. But, it certainly doesn't stop there. As soon as you have a hunger pang, delicious fresh food mysteriously appears and Ramon is manning the bar ready to whip up everyone's favorites, even if there are 18 different ones! The rooms are lovely and clean, some with outdoor showers. Rosa's massages are a treat and not to be missed. The entire setting is beautiful and conducive to relaxing. Can't wait to go back in 2018!"

  • Amazing!!

"Me and a group of 12 friends rented the villa out while we were in DR for a destination wedding. The wedding was at a villa in the same gated community so it was a quick 5 minute walk for us. We had the best week ever!! Gorgeous views and the villa has an awesome layout for large groups. The entire staff was so friendly and helpful. Our chef, Santos, was amazing, every meal was so delicious. Our main bartender was Rilen and he was also the best. So happy and made us feel so welcome. None of us had stayed in a private villa before so didn't know what to expect. We have already been talking about when we can all go back. I can't say thanks enough for the awesome memories and such a relaxing, care free trip. The best way to vacation!! Thanks to all the staff for a truly incredible trip."

  • Beauty, Culture, and Relaxing...undeniably an amazing place to experience the true DR

"My first experience with the Sea Dog was through its owner Chester. He's was extremely accommodating and was fast to reply to our families many questions! He also provided a ton of information about the area and its culture. After the trip, he followed up to ensure we enjoyed our stay, as well as, called the house manger (Julia) to check on us! The house is amazing. Very comfortable for the 10 adults we had and the view was to die for, absolutely phenomenal! The casita is exceptional. Waking up to the view it provides is a dream! The house is situated on a cliff overlooking the ocean and the beautiful sunrises! The house staff (Julia, Lucy, & Maximo) were superb! I would highly recommend having them provide dinner (Julia and Lucy cook a killer lasagna), all meals were amazing and filling! We also had breakfast which was a great idea, and if you want something besides a traditional breakfast (toast, fruit, eggs, bacon) all you have to do is request it! Julia & Lucy were very accommodating when we asked to prepare a particular meal or change the scheduled menu. Julia was very detail oriented and always ensured we had everything we needed. She handled setting up all transportation, the excersions, as well as, the additional groceries we requested on the way in. We never felt threatened or unsafe (Maximo and the watchman were great). Chester will tell you, so make sure you listen...Don't pet the cats!! Lil Diablito is an amazing older dog that makes sure you are aware if someone or something is in the yard and will chase it off. The Wi-Fi, plumbing, and electrical is not up to US standard or the Americanized resorts, but in no means does it deter from the experience. Thank you Chester and Staff for an amazing trip and treating my family like your own! Look forward to our next visit!! Cindi & Clan #C150"
