  • Amazing Experience

"I had an amazing experience as well as all my family the couple of days we spent there. Everything was perfect, the apartment was fully equipped, everything was new, very quiet with a friendly environment place to stay, with 2 swimming pools, and an amazing beach just a 2 min walk away. Personally I'd say the beach is in my top 3 beaches. We had a very different experience from the usual resort type vacationing in DR. Food was amazing in town. Personally I recommend a place called La Dolce Vita, very good Italian dinning, and also a few good pizza places. Also we had some fish from a local fisherman cooked right at the beach which was just very good for a very descent price. Overall it was an Amazing vacation Thanks Zoe for a great experience"

  • Great House, pool, and location

"Great Vacation! No bugs! Ok, just a few mosquitoes as you would expect, but not as bad as Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, etc. We stayed 10 daysd We loved it. "We" are two couples that travel annually together. The house is better than the pictures. The local property manager was Alba and she was like a tour guide in many ways. A great resource to quickly become acquainted to the Puerto Plata area. The house was clean and the pool was cleaned daily. Great pool lights too. Nice outside patios and verandas upon which to eat and converse. Lot's of fun! The location proved safe and we met the two closest neighbors on each side of the house--both were long term American/Canadian residents. This house is convenient to Puerto Plata and surrounding attractions if you have a car and yet quiet if you prefer to hang out by the house pool. Costambar is a gated community and does have it's own beach a short drive from the house. The beach is really quite good and swimable,-maybe an 8- on a scale of 10. It does have about 8 beach cafes to choose from. It is not crowded. We loved the second cafe from the end of the road owned by an Austrian--big selection on the menu...including Shnitzel! And good prices. "Jenny's Market" does fair and quick currency changing and has most everything you need. We found lots to do with our rental car. To drive in the DR, you must be a very confident driver, with guts, good reflexes, and nerves of steel. I am not kidding. The roads are narrow and the traffic congested. Stop lights and stop signs are not always obeyed until a flow of oncoming cars take claim to the right of way. You must take out all liability insurance. Really. Must do's : The town of Cabareta has a world class beach and beach cafes with 300 Kite Boarders and wind surfers in motion in front of you--a must do 45 minute drive. Really a spectacular experience! Just before arriving at Cabareta is Sosua Beach-also world class beach, shops....but very crowded and commercial...and a rough town to hang out in-so just visit the beach. You probably should do these two Beaches on different days and not rush. Spanish Fort in Puerto Plata is 500 years old and a must see. Wait for an inclement weather day and you can mix in the Amber Museum 7 blocks by seven blocks away. You must drive and park. Watch out for the street drains not having grates. You could bust your axle or just get stuck. Really. Playa Dorada is world class beach 15 minutes away."

  • More then expected!

"Colonial Beauty by the beach is exactly what the title says, it is a charming beauty with so much warmth and coziness I did not want to leave. Everything was exactly as shown in the photos, but what made this a standout was the location. Everything was in walking distance and I was able to enjoy the ocean and then walk back to my beautiful abode. I absolutely loved the kitchen! The layout is quite modern, the balcony is also very nice to get a warm breeze in the evening, and another perk is the washing machine! Having the little cafe right outside the plaza was also a delight in which I took full advantage in the morning, enjoying my morning brew there. This accommodation is very spacious yet gives the feeling of a quaint cottage all at the same time. Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed!"

  • Amazing vacation

"We stayed here for 16 days in march. This is a really nice complex. Guarded all the time and people at the front desk day and night. Interesting pool rule: you can only have your drink in the "jacuzzi" which is part of the pool... its not a hot tub either. So even with your drink in a completely closed container you couldn't just be anywhere in the pool. It was annoying because kids like to play and splash in that area. This place gets crazy crazy busy on the weekends however the weekdays are super quiet so enjoy the quiet time during the week. The beach here is beautiful if you leave and walk east there are abandoned buildings but if you go west there's plenty of distance of nice beach to walk. Tip: the restaurant you see on the water... it's private but we found out that they allow outside reservations on Wednesday and Thursday you just need to book at the Hemingway office down the Main Street. Excellent food. Be careful when you are outside of the complex we got pick pocketed by girls who would walk right into you even though there was plenty of space on the street. The condo doesn't have a dishwasher or regular oven we made do as the toaster oven was big enough for whatever we were cooking or baking. The fridge has a fishy smell that we could not seem to get out but it didn't seem to affect our food. The toaster didn't work so hopefully it gets replaced. Would be nice to have a kettle to boil water for tea but not a big deal. They only have plastic wine and drink glasses here I'm sure it's because they get broken so easily on the granite counter so just FYI. We loved how this place had two bedrooms with ensuites it's great when you traveling with friends. The patio doors can be opened almost the length of the patio which is great for outdoor yet indoor living. We saved so much on our electricity bill because we only used the ac in the bedrooms right before bed... the fans kept it cool for the rest of the night. Overall a great stay and would come back again!"
