  • A mostly tranquil get away at Tranquility Villa

"My husband and I just returned from Jamaica where we enjoyed five fabulous days at Tranquility Villa. The house is as depicted, set way up on a hill overlooking the ocean and town below. It is a very comfortable home with all of the conveniences you would want and comes with a caretaker and cook. The usual cook was away and her daughter took her place - Marsha did an awesome job and we enjoyed some of our favorite Jamaican dishes in the comfort of our own home. We ate at home every night - the food is so good, no need to go out. Dennis, the caretaker took great care of us and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. He even managed to find someone to bring us some local vegetables that were not available in the market and invited my husband down to play dominoes with the guys. Dennis stays in an apartment downstairs so he is always available if you need him and otherwise stays out of your way. The only thing that was disappointing was how noisy it was in town for the first few nights. Very loud music playing until 2 am and the noise drifts right up the hill to the house. Day trips in the area included the Blue Lagoon which sadly needs a lot of work. Winifred Beach was our favorite spot. No need to bring food as there are some kiosks where great food can be purchased for a reasonable price. We liked Winifred so much we didn't bother going to Frenchman's Cove. One food tip - DO NOT go to Boston Bay for jerk chicken/pork. We were there many years ago when it was fantastic and the meat was properly seasoned and cooked. Now the food is terrible, hardly any seasoning, cooked on a grill and way over cooked. We couldn't eat our food. Dennis warned us that is wasn't good any more but we didn't listen and went anyway. He nicely did not say "I told you so!" when we returned with our unhappy report. We would definitely recommend Tranquility Villa!"

  • Port Antonio always reminds me of home

"This is a special apt to me, cause the Afrika family are like my own family. We get along very well so I look forward to going there. She is always trying to improve and make changes to make you feel comfortable, Everyone know each other so feel great living with the people and enjoy what I call mountain life and living. I love fish and the fisherman come in after their catch, just a 10 min walk down the road. I try to get there at least twice a year."

  • Comfortable Home Away from Home

"One of the reasons we decided to stay at this property was Donna (the owner)'s responsiveness to emails. She was really great with getting us all the info we needed to know. She's in the States, so we didn't get to meet her in person, but she checked in on us several times by phone, and the housekeeper who let us in, Winsome, was really wonderful. The apartment is located on the outskirts of Port Antonio, with route taxis (100$J) passing by every few minutes to get into town. A convenience store is a couple minutes walk from the house. It's very spacious- one large bedroom with a queen bed, stand-up fan, full bathroom (cold water only), and then another bed in the living room (ceiling fan), plenty of room for 4 to sleep. There's also a 1/2 bath, laundry room with washing machine, spacious kitchen with full-size fridge, gas oven, microwave, and living room, and a entry porch. The house had cable and wi-fi. No a/c, but we found the temperature very comfortable with the fans. There were several great attractions nearby, including Reach Falls, rafting on the Rio Grande, and Blue Lagoon, as well as several beaches."

  • Get Away - Connect w/ Nature - See Jamaica

"There is just so much to say about my 35th Birthday Retreat at Darlingford Farm. First off, the staff is truly a magical compliment to this quaint and lusciously green farm house. Our Driver, who soon became our friend, was wonderful with helping us coordinate visits to the various attractions and activities our group wanted to explore. All of his recommendations were wonderful for our group. The Chef, who is filled with pure vibes is simply a master with preparing tasty foods straight from the earth, he deliciously prepared for our plates. Lastly, our housekeeper was such a delight and really made our stay even more pleasant and comfortable. In terms of the property - it is nestled overlooking a beautiful bay front just beyond my bedroom window. The dining area and porch is spacious, yet intimate for playing cards & dominoes, yoga, working out, or simply lounging. Each time I would retreat to my room, the sounds of the ocean and birds would effortlessly sing me to sleep. That would be marked as some of the best sleep I have had in probably my life or as far back as I can remember. It was a refreshing and renewing experience because I returned back home and to work still feeling the tranquility of Darlingford Farm. Oh - the horses and caretaker were also a wonderful bonus, as I love horses. Guests are welcome to have a ride if they wish, or they can simply interact with the horses in passing. The best for last - Tigres who accompanied the first one(s) up to early morning walks and runs. She would escort us through the roads and byways of Manchioneal, Portland. Overall, I could not have picked a more ideal place to share my 35th birthday with my friends I have known since childhood. It was a perfect sum of tranquility, beauty and open spaces, combines with shopping, waterfalls, jerk & local cuisines, night life (dancing), and more. One thing I will note is that you will have to drive to the attractions and shopping areas. This property is perfect for those who really desire to get away and unplug (even thought WiFi is available - no one has to know), while having an intimate setting. Let's just say whenever life starts to get at me, I know the ideal place to retreat; Darlingford Farm and would recommend it for couples, families, girls or guys week or weekend get-a-ways."
