  • Great experience!

"I stayed here on business, it was comfortable and right in Condado within walking distance to the beach, restaurants and shops. Everything was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The property management made sure I had everything I needed just like in a hotel. Dorota"

  • Wonderful, secluded, scenic mountain retreat

"San Juan and other major cities in Puerto Rico have a lot to offer tourists, but do not give you a feel for what it is like to LIVE in Puerto Rico. For a local experience, my wife and I enjoyed staying two hours from the larger cities, among the tops of seeming unlimited mountains that make up the interior of the island. We used the hacienda as our base and made several day trips, although be aware that the narrow, winding and climbing roads take at least 30 minutes to an hour to traverse depending on destination. We hiked around the property, bought food locally, spoke Spanish with the locals (although quite a few speak English) and cooked at home for the most part. There are small groceries nearby in Castañer. We read on the patio with coffee in the mornings, opened the windows to the cool breeze during the day, and drank local Medalla beer and rum drinks by night listening to all of the sounds of Nature. This is more of a soul-replenishing destination than an active vacation spot, in my opinion. This house is simple, spacious and comfortable. It has 4 bedrooms, 2 and a half baths, living and dining areas - all of which can be opened by window or door to the outside. The large covered porch and hammock were our best hangout. There is no heating or air conditioning, but it isn't needed. The nights are cool, but the days were never uncomfortable. The house is historic, primarily a wood structure, and demands care for its contents, but is comfortable nonetheless. I had not appreciated how large it was. Several other couples or a large family could easily share this space. Luis, the caretaker, lives below and is quiet and helpful. He surprised us with large bags of plaintains and oranges after we struck up a friendship with him. There are 3 dogs that he cares for that have been referred to as strays in other reviews, but they seem to stick around Luis' area. He told us that one of the them, which stays on his porch, was really his, and the other two have essentially adopted him. I'm pretty sure he feeds them regularly. They do bark at any strangers and did at us for a day or two, but they are not aggressive in the least. We are dog lovers and found their presence to be an added security that could alert us to anyone out of the ordinary. One is a sweet pit mix that I wish we could take home with us, but we did not pet, feed or otherwise encourage the dogs. Hacienda Bona Vista will give you a refreshing, pleasant and real Puerto Rican experience"
