  • Pure Perfection

"There's no other way to describe this house than "pure perfection". It has become our soul's place and we return year after year, frankly living for this idyllic respite place. This year each morning as we had breakfast on the porch, a very large (I'd say 3-4 feet long) green iguana climbed to the top of a tall tree in the yard and sunned him/herself with pleasure. S/he was our companion every day and, along with the sound of roosters, horses, and coqui put us in touch with the animal world in this island paradise."

  • Comfortable, simple and convenient

"My sister and I spent a week at the Hidden Gem house in Esperanza. This was a comfortable and simple, yet well appointed house convenient to everything Esperanza has to offer. This house is probably not for everyone, but if you are not fussy, you will be quite happy and comfortable here. The plusses: easy to walk to anything you would need in Esperanza...The Malecon and all its restaurants and other attractions, the little grocery is around the corner. The house is very clean, bright and very well supplied. The beds are comfortable. There are numerous hammocks and hooks for hanging them. Ceiling fans aplenty keep the house comfortable (one bedroom has a/c, but you're not likely to need it). The kitchen is well outfitted, although we were advised that the oven was sketchy (no big deal). The house is also well supplied with beach gear: towels, mats, chairs, snorkel gear, coolers, icepacks, etc. The property managers Christina and Glenn were great with communication and getting us settled into the house, as well as taking care of anything that came up. Christina is a wealth of knowledge about what to do on Vieques. The minuses: The back bedroom can get a little stuffy over the course of a warm day. Leaving the windows open and the fans running help, and it cools off nicely at night. Being a simple home on a tropical island, you may have the occasional small reptile or insect visitor. Not a big issue for us, but again if you are fussy about that sort of thing...One issue to be aware of, and this is not the fault of the house nor the owner, is nighttime noise. Esperanza is home to a LOT of dogs, chickens and roosters. The dogs and the roosters can be very noisy throughout the night. If you are a light sleeper, be advised. All in all, we were very happy with this house."
