  • Awesome, modern, secluded beach house

"This place was the perfect getaway for a family of four who wanted a quiet, secluded place to stay with a beach and coral reef right out the back door. The spacious house is quite modern with air conditioning, electricity, and hot water. There is a large master bedroom with a king size bed, and two smaller bedrooms with queen size beds. There are two large bathrooms, and a washing machine. The furniture is new and is in great condition, and the kitchen is equipped with everything one needs. There are three inflatable rafts for fun in the water, four sets of snorkeling gear (we brought our own though) and a single person sit-on-top kayak and paddle. The back porch is where we spent most of our time relaxing and watching the ocean. The little bay (Cutlass Bay) is fairly well protected but the ocean was still pretty rough (whitecaps) and, at least for the week of June 25-July 2 2016, too rough for kids' first snorkeling experience as they kept getting water in the snorkels. But the more experienced adult snorkeler among us went out every day, twice a day. The visibility was fair to excellent - worse in the afternoon when the surface water heats up and the phytoplankton get thick and turn the water green - but further out from the bay the visibility was consistently good to excellent. There is little boat traffic within the bay so no need for a dive flag. There are large swaths of dead coral, and the coral bleaching is pretty bad where the coral is very shallow, but there is new coral growing, including brain coral, staghorn coral, lots of sea fans and gorgonians, lots of sponges, and while there were few large schools of fish, the diversity was good - we identified over 60 species of fish in our short week there, plus there were many sea turtles although most were too shy to let a snorkeler approach. Interestingly and unfortunately, no moray eels. We drove to Greenwood Resort for lunch one day but discovered they weren't serving, so we drove to Fernandez Bay Resort twice - they have outstanding food and a self-serve bar that is on the honor system - but they are pretty expensive. Lunch for four cost $80 one day and $120 another day. The bay there is on the leeward side of the island and the water was calm enough for the kids to snorkel and swim safely. Issy and Yvonne were great and got us a car rental for much cheaper than one could get anywhere else. Groceries for four people ran around $300 for the week, including wine and beer."

  • Family time

"We had a fantastic time at Sea Mist and forged quick friendships with both Jasmine and Ashley who were helpful and polite. On arrival to the villa we found it clean and welcoming. The bedrooms were very comfortable and each night we fell asleep to the sound of the sea (so relaxing). We enjoyed the meals with fresh produce cooked by Jasmine and felt very safe during the evenings thanks to Ashley. We can’t wait to return to Jamaica and the local beach which is a stone’s throw away and watch the waves come in against the shore. If you would like something different it is worth trying the villa route. It was a great experience and one to be repeated."

  • Just what we were looking for!

"This little place was just amazing! The location was perfection for a family who didn't know much about the island. Everything was so accessible. The cottage itself is charming, clean and gave us that beach feel we were hoping for. It had everything you needed to enjoy a stay away from home. The beach chairs and kayak were a huge hit and the outdoor patio area was private and cozy....(shared with the small adorable anole lizards). The beach out front is a worldly phenomenon...... Stretching white sand beaches and being able to walk out hundreds of feet before it even passes your knees! We enjoyed Buddas and their wonderful staff. The Shipyard Restaurant was our favorite for the view and the food quality. We saw a white tip reef shark here on our last night. Also, The state park is a must visit! Lastly, my husband had an amazing fishing adventure with Deeks Fishing tour! They caught 12 yellowfin Tuna, We had so much tune we had to give some to our neighbors! My 10 year old son and I went Snorkeling with Captain Ryan Neilly off of Devils backbone....it was a little intimidating but I was impressed with all of the live coral and fish life here. Captain Ryan was very attentive and a great person to show the kids the cool features of the island. One factor to mention: The bedrooms are really one big one separated by curtains so if you have a snorer in the family...you might want ear plugs! Our care taker Johnny was kind, attentive and made sure to arrange our travel to and from the island which was was seamless both ways. We loved our time here! We will definitely be back to this beach house!"
