  • Great View!!

"We were met at the police department (it seems everybody gets arrested on arrival there) by Stewart Smalley, and followed him at night on a winding trail that was quite fun to drive, and found food and drink waiting for us in the refrigerator, and spirits offered, too. Then, after getting up in the morning went exploring the property and it is as pictured with a tremendous view Grand Anse Bay, and the deck is perfectly placed for great sunsets. Ellen did make us her Shrimp Piri Piri, one of her African dishes with just the right spices to leave lips and mouth warm. And Stewart, the sommelier and bartender, foisted large amounts of wine on us and regaled us with all kinds of fish stories; and both had suggestions on what to do while on the island...they actually suggested we leave it...and go to another one, Carriacou, by ferry the next day. Driving on the island is better than even in the Dominican Republic, the roads are even more narrow and very twisty/turny; I, as driver, had a hoot, my girlfriend/wife/passenger, not so much. And for us from the USA, driving from the wrong side of the car on the wrong side of the road...proving that two wrongs do, indeed, make a right. When going into St. Georges and wandering around and looking lost, we asked a guy, Herman it turned out, how to get to the fort and the market and it turned out he guided us all over the place, even out into the boonies to the rainforest and a lake and waterfalls up there and tried to find friendly monkeys to play with...the monkeys were having none of it, so we did not pay for that little park tour...but it was a really great drive (for me, not my girlfriend/wife/passenger), and we would never have found anything without Herman. Car rental...we rented form Archie because he responded better to concerns about insurance, would meet us at the airport, etc. Knowing what I do now, I would just have Stewart pick us up since he has to meet us to lead us in anyway, and rent from their neighbor Lorrie. As far as the police station episode, before Archie would let us have a car, they took us in that car to the police station to get a Grenada driving permit, and that is why Stewart met us at the police station to lead us home. Archie's car had a flat spare, the inside of the windshield had NEVER been washed and caused quite a glare, but Ellen had glass cleaner and paper towels, so I washed the windshield three times and it was OK. I would go again to "Inside Out" without hesitancy."

  • Camelot

"Other than making Camelot a "no fly zone" for mosquitoes (they unfortunately love my fair skin) I couldn't fault the villa at all – fortunately found some repellent called "Off" at the local chemist which worked a treat!. :–) On a serious note……the villa was beautifully clean, well presented and most importantly everything worked (not always our experience with villa rentals in the past). We unfortunately had the "air con" go down in the Anex overnight, however Anna had it promptly fixed the next day (she was a "god send" over the whole week…..even helping out with a "jump start" when I stupidly left my lights on overnight on our rental vehicle. Paul and the guys at OFBC was also very friendly and helpful (we spent several days there on the beach!). Happy for you to use us as a review/reference/recommendation and "touch wood" we may be back again next year. :-)"

  • Perfect Escape

"My husband and I were so pleased with the studio and location, absolutely perfect for what we needed, and more! Highly recommend renting a jeep and exploring the island, well worth it! We took advantage of the grill a few nights as well which was a plus- dinner w/ our own view! Would definitely recommend for couples, small families and girls getaway. Thank you so much, Anna, for a wonderful vacation at Surfside!"

  • Island Paradise!

"Villa Altamira is the perfect vacation home in Vieques! I was amazed that the house was even better than its description. The owners, John and Karen, were extremely responsive, helpful, and kind during the reservation and payment process. The house is located on a hill with plenty of property surrounding it and a gate for privacy and security—you really do feel almost secluded in the middle of a friendly neighborhood. It’s only a ten-minute walk into the main town of Isabel where there are restaurants, convenience stores, bakeries, coffee shops, and bars. If you rent a Jeep, you can explore the entire island easily—nothing is more than twenty minutes away. The house itself is designed perfectly to allow for plenty of privacy for everyone. I love that each bedroom is on its own floor with its own bathroom. It’s a perfect spot for several couples—there were four adults during our stay. This is one of the most well-equipped rental houses I have ever stayed in, with plenty of cooking supplies, towels, and even flashlights and candles for when the electricity went out! We really enjoyed being able to use all of the beach gear (cooler, chairs, umbrella, snorkel gear, etc.), and we were saved from having to buy or rent any equipment. The house was extremely clean and well-taken care of, and the property managers (Annette and Dennis) were only a text message away for immediate assistance with anything we needed. We especially enjoyed playing games on the covered deck in the evenings and swimming in the beautiful pool morning, afternoon, and night! I also made much use of the outdoor shower. The views from all over the house are incredible. We loved looking at the stars from the rooftop deck, and my fiance actually proposed to me on the upper pool deck at sunset! I can’t wait to get back to this incredible house on this incredible island! Thanks so much John, Karen, Annette, and Dennis!"
