  • Beautiful but noisy by night

"We spend 5 days at the Mango cottage in August 2016. I have to say the cottage is nice, especially for a couple. It would be OK for a couple with 2 children but certainly not ideal for 4 adults. The kitchen is very small, the living room is small but there is enough space for 2 children to sleep in. The main bedroom and bathroom are perfect. The landscaping: Wow, this is the highlight. The plunge pool is perfect for hot days. Everything is kept pristine on the surrounding part. However, as everything seems to be a garden of Eden, you better bring a good set of hear plugs. When day turns to dusk and you thought locusts would rule the world, it’s not necessarily the case. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday that we were there, a primal battle between locusts, karaoke and neighbours guard dogs was happening until 2 or 3AM as far as the music was concerned. I have to say the music (not the dogs) was pretty quiet Tuesday and Wednesday nights. My last point would be on Chantal. Chantal is the very nice and low key house keeper that will come almost every day to do the cleaning and your laundry. Having Chantal there every day is like having a 5 star service facility. Her big thing is that she will offer to cook you a real creole dinner. First, make sure you make it happen at the beginning of your stay there because she will cook you 3 meals worth. The food was very good and I think as local as it can get. There are just 2 small problems with this. First, as almost every dining-out option in Rodney Bay, the dinner she will cook will also be up there in price. I mean on the level of the priciest Rodney Bay restaurants. To get a cooked meal from Chantal will cost you 50$US per person of ingredient and 25$US per person for her cooking fees. So, for a couple, it was 150$US for the dinner. The problem with this is the cost of ingredient she charges. There is absolutely no way the dinner we had cost 100$US of ingredients (local fruits, local vegetables and local fish). Even by Rodney Bay supermarket standard, it is worth 30$US. So, me and my wife were expecting 100$US of ingredients in our plates and that was not the case. Again, don’t get me wrong, the service charge is fine by me (could be higher even). The problem is that if you tell me you need 100$US for the ingredients, I expect 100$US worth of ingredients. We ended up telling ourselves that the 70$US of ingredients we did not get in our plate was a very nice tip for the cleaning and laundry she did for us."

  • Picturesque

"My family and I stayed at Simon Lewis's 2 Bdrm Apartment from March 31, 2016 through April 8th. The 2 Bdrms are formed by joining a 1 Bdrm apartment with an adjoining studio room, and combined they are one entire floor in one of the buildings you can see in the pictures. I can honestly say this is the nicest property we have ever stayed, and Simon's apartment is perfectly located overlooking the pool and marina. You can walk from the pool to Simon's apartment in 30 seconds. This property is definitely high end, and is void of all the typical annoyances that come with normal vacation rentals (e.g. people reserving pool chairs when they are not in the pool, checking towels in and out, etc). The staff is very friendly, and they make a point of learning your names. They also go the extra mile by bringing you bottled water while at the pool, along with a couple of rounds of complimentary drinks (in shot glasses) during the day. There is no "check out time", you leave your room when it is time for you to go to the airport to catch your flight. Marigot Bay is truly picturesque, with the Northern half being mostly undeveloped. There are 6 restaurants around the bay (or very nearby), not including the Capella. Overall I would rate the food as good, but not fantastic (the food at the Capella was probably the best), and prices are high but not outrageous as at some other islands. The road conditions are really bad, so if you haven't been to St. Lucia before you absolutely do not want to rent a car from the airport and try to find the Capella. I rented a car with help from my "personal assistant" at the Capella, and it was quite reasonable. I also did not find this to be the best island for beaches or snorkeling. However, the people on the island are very friendly, and if you like the contrasting scenery of a mountainous island and clear blue Caribbean water, this is the place for you. All-in-all this is an outstanding property, and Simon is renting it at a very reasonable price for what you get. This is also the easiest rental process I every had through VRBO. Thank you Simon!!!"

  • Great Vacation

"We traveled with a group of friends with our respective children and had a great time in St. Lucia staying at La Paloma. The house at first was a little difficult to find with the attached directions - but so was everything else in St. Lucia ;) The house was huge - very kid friendly. The view from the balconies and pool were astonishing and very relaxing in the morning and at night. The pool is not huge - but was perfect size for kids to frolic around in. The house was very clean and well maintained. Its located in on a gated private road - so peace of mind for those worried about safety. Susie, the cook prepared the dishes perfectly. She and Annette were on time every day and the kids loved them. We had fresh fish delivered via a fisherman one day that was phenomenal."

  • Perfect Location On A Beautiful Island

"For those trying to avoid resort life and taste some of the real flavor of local life while on island, Lime Tree Cottage is for you. Our stay started with a most helpful 45 minute driving tour by our hostess Indy who showed us a couple of beaches, places to get groceries, her favorite spots to eat and of course her favorite spots to watch the sun set over the Caribbean. The tour quickly made us realize that the location is absolutely spot on (nothing is too far away at all) and helped us feel at ease about getting our bearings and made our own driving around all the more easier. The cottage is perfect with no detail overlooked. It's very clean, quiet and is a wonderful place to unwind after a day of sun on the beach or after an excursion. We'll let Indy fill you in on her specific points of interest after you book, but we highly recommend a full day boat tour from Rodney Bay Marina to Soufriere and back (we used Sea Spray) and the hike up to Fort Rodney on Pigeon Point offers some great views of the northern part of the Island. In short, if you get a chance to stay here, please do - Indy and Jamie are absolutely lovely hosts and make you feel right at home. Thank you again guys, we are already working on next year's stay and look forward to seeing you again. All the best, Mike & Tanya Acton, Ontario, Canada"
