  • Love, love, loved this cottage!

"Such an awesome place to stay on St John. My husband and I only stayed there for 3 days and then met the rest of the family at a villa on Cruz bay. Wish we had the whole 10 days at Catch and Keep. We will definatly go back! Can't wait!!"

  • Great villa in great location with fantastic views!

"My wife and I were married on St John 15 years ago and actually lived in Coral Bay for a couple of years so we know the island well. We returned to STJ for our 15th anniversary with some friends and we were very happy with Stonegarden Cottage. High enough on the mountain to get fantastic breezes that made sleeping a joy even in June with no A/C on yet very easy access off a paved well maintained road. The property managers Emily and Anthony were great and made everything seamless from booking to departing. Among the many things that we enjoyed about the villa is the fact that Emily is wise enough to realize that all the little things add up and it was so nice to find she leaves all the forgettable items from previous guest like bug spray, sun screen, dish soap, minor first aid, shampoo......All of which cost $$$ on island and are so easy to forget to bring. Great place that We highly recommend!"

  • A nice family getaway

"My husband, my daughter, and I stayed in Tree Frog for a week. Pros: The owner and property manager were helpful and easy to communicate with, and the property was as described in the listing. Furnishings are nice and in good shape, attractive decor and good layout. We specifically wanted a place with an indoor vs outdoor staircase since we were traveling with a child- didn't want her traipsing around outside without us if we slept on different floors, and it was perfect. Downstairs bedroom is spacious, and the bed is comfortable. There are lots of beach supplies available for renters to use: several Tommy Bahama beach chairs (the best kind!), coolers, sand toys, etc. The kitchen is well-equipped for preparing meals and cocktails. There were also plenty of extra towels and linens if we needed them, also well-stocked toilet paper and paper towels as well as some bathroom items. We appreciated that some of the pantry and toiletry items are left behind from other guests, like condiments, extra sunblock, bug spray, etc. (We've stayed at places where there was NOTHING!) Lots of privacy- no visible neighbors, no noise other than the sounds of nature. Nice view from upstairs balcony- it was cool to watch the birds during the day and especially cool to watch the bats at dusk. Cons: the drive really is rough. It is not for the inexperienced USVI driver. We didn't mind too much because we planned on eating dinner at the cottage every night anyway, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone who plans to eat/drink out then return after dark. We did use the AC downstairs in the bedroom every night... we did not find that the breezes cooled the place enough for the July heat. The patio door opening upstairs lacks a screen, so with it open, the breezes come in, but so do the mosquitoes. Our daughter ended up sleeping downstairs too. There is an AC unit upstairs too, but it didn't seem to do the trick just to cool the place at night. The bathroom was damp and hot 24/7, which came with a gross smell. The towels all smelled a little mildewy. We visit St. John a lot and so we've come to expect these things (you will find the same if not worse at other villas in this price range- TRUST ME!); I only mention it for those who are unfamiliar with St. John rentals. I've heard it's cooler and the AC is not needed at other times of the year, but we've found we need it when we come in late June or July. We enjoyed our trip, and staying at Tree Frog was a good experience."

  • Great place to stay in the mountains

"The hosts were excellent, couldn't have done a better job at communicating with us, answering text messages while en-route and during arrival, replacing little things to keep us happy that we ran out of, and just generally being great hosts. We stayed here for a week with our two older children (8 and 5), and used the home as a place to sleep and eat breakfast in, during the day we were snorkeling for 3-5 hours and enjoying the beaches and adventure of St. John. We were expecting the temperature to be lower in the mountains as per the explanation and description of the property, unfortunately we found the opposite to be true. It was very warm, but more importantly the humidity was oppressive, sleep was a bit of a challenge, and the wetsuits never dried during the late afternoons, evenings and over night, which was a bummer. All things considered this is a wonderful place to stay and you can't beat the price for a 2 bedroom place on the island. It's probably better to stay there in the spring time for a temperature decrease, staying there in July really is quite hot (mid 80's and very high humidity). Of course, there is a good chance I'm just a big softy, I am a European after all :) Last but not least our son Jack couldn't have been more thankful for the abundant supply of little geckos in and around the property. Challenging to catch, they provided hours of entertainment for him on a daily basis! Thank you for opening your home to us!"
