  • Absolute perfection!

"This was our second time staying at Estate Fortsberg and certainly will not be our last. From the moment you arrive, the drive up to the villa is exciting and adventurous! Upon walking in the front door, you start to understand what is going to make your stay exceptional.....the amazing view CANNOT be matched ANYWHERE on the island! The pool/spa is welcoming and encourages everyone to gather and share stories of the day, have great conversations while relaxing or dining al fresco! Cool breezes run through the main house and after a few minutes being there, you realize you may never leave and explore the rest of the island! We had a party of 8 and were all comfortable in each bedroom, in the downstairs hammock or outdoor living area. The outdoor showers are one of my favorite things about the house.. The kitchen was perfect to cook in as you never felt like you were missing out on enjoying the view, because even being behind the stove gives you the best view! The house has all amenities you could want or need. Every morning we would have coffee on the terrace and plan our day which would include a hike, beach, snorkel and lunch at a local restaurant. A few of our favorites are Aqua Bistro, Skinny Legs, Shipwreck and Indigo Grill. The local grocery store next to Aqua Bistro has EVERYTHING you could want or need as well. No need to go far if you run out of something. We would always head back to the villa around 3-4 pm and wonder why we ever left that morning, because it just doesn't get any better than a little music, a cocktail and a swim in the pool overlooking the blue water dotted with sailboats heading in or out of Coral Bay. Sunrise and sunsets are amazing and are worth waking up early for. Star gazing is taken to a new level here, as there are no lights to compete with and you can get a great view of constellations and shooting stars. I could go on and on about this property. Thank you to the owner for sharing this place with the world! Windspree took exceptional care of us from beginning to end, from our initial correspondence, greeting us at the ferry and grocery delivery on our arrival night. We'll be back very soon!"

  • A nice family getaway

"My husband, my daughter, and I stayed in Tree Frog for a week. Pros: The owner and property manager were helpful and easy to communicate with, and the property was as described in the listing. Furnishings are nice and in good shape, attractive decor and good layout. We specifically wanted a place with an indoor vs outdoor staircase since we were traveling with a child- didn't want her traipsing around outside without us if we slept on different floors, and it was perfect. Downstairs bedroom is spacious, and the bed is comfortable. There are lots of beach supplies available for renters to use: several Tommy Bahama beach chairs (the best kind!), coolers, sand toys, etc. The kitchen is well-equipped for preparing meals and cocktails. There were also plenty of extra towels and linens if we needed them, also well-stocked toilet paper and paper towels as well as some bathroom items. We appreciated that some of the pantry and toiletry items are left behind from other guests, like condiments, extra sunblock, bug spray, etc. (We've stayed at places where there was NOTHING!) Lots of privacy- no visible neighbors, no noise other than the sounds of nature. Nice view from upstairs balcony- it was cool to watch the birds during the day and especially cool to watch the bats at dusk. Cons: the drive really is rough. It is not for the inexperienced USVI driver. We didn't mind too much because we planned on eating dinner at the cottage every night anyway, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone who plans to eat/drink out then return after dark. We did use the AC downstairs in the bedroom every night... we did not find that the breezes cooled the place enough for the July heat. The patio door opening upstairs lacks a screen, so with it open, the breezes come in, but so do the mosquitoes. Our daughter ended up sleeping downstairs too. There is an AC unit upstairs too, but it didn't seem to do the trick just to cool the place at night. The bathroom was damp and hot 24/7, which came with a gross smell. The towels all smelled a little mildewy. We visit St. John a lot and so we've come to expect these things (you will find the same if not worse at other villas in this price range- TRUST ME!); I only mention it for those who are unfamiliar with St. John rentals. I've heard it's cooler and the AC is not needed at other times of the year, but we've found we need it when we come in late June or July. We enjoyed our trip, and staying at Tree Frog was a good experience."

  • Wonderful, peaceful, relaxing stay

"We loved our stay at Surf Sound Cottage! Every detail was well thought out in terms of what was available to use and even how they decorated. Never did we say "I wish this place had...." It was simply perfect. The cottage was very clean, the breeze kept it cool (no need to use the AC), and the view was beyond gorgeous. We so appreciated access to the beach towels, beach chairs, and the coolers. Our favorite place in the cottage was the sundeck. We started each day here and enjoyed breakfast. Can you beat a view of the sunrise, sound of the surf and the gentle breeze to start your day?! A Jeep in a necessity. Learn how to put it into 4WD low. It is a must for the driveway which was quite an adventure! We used St. John Car Rental and had good service with them. A day trip to the BVI is highly recommended! We used Stormy Petrel and Pirates Penny. It was a trip to the Baths, lunch on Cooper Island, and off-shore snorkeling. We highly recommend treating yourselves to this trip! They were great! Instead of bringing many clothes (really, pack LIGHT), we recommend packing some of your favorite foods. Groceries are pricy. We were happy we brought coffee, oats, trail mix and Lara bars. These simple items for breakfast and lunch gave us more freedom to enjoy a nice dinner out! Surf Sound Cottage offers privacy, great views, constant breeze (keeps you cool and keeps bugs away!), and the comfort of home! We highly recommend this for your St. John vacation!"

  • Love, love, loved this cottage!

"Such an awesome place to stay on St John. My husband and I only stayed there for 3 days and then met the rest of the family at a villa on Cruz bay. Wish we had the whole 10 days at Catch and Keep. We will definatly go back! Can't wait!!"
