  • Away From It All at Island Horizons

"There were five of us who stayed at Island Horizons for 10 glorious days. We were met at the villa by its owners, Ed and Marie-France, who graciously showed us around the house and explained certain workings. Ed's artwork is extensive throughout the villa, and he has captured the essence of St. John with his talent. The house is perched on a steep hillside, and is approached from above. The uppermost level has 2 bedrooms, ensuite, at either end, with the kitchen, inside dining area and living room situated in between. There is also a nice dining area located just outside on the covered upper terrace, along with a gas grill. All appliances, including washer, dryer and dishwasher, were in perfect working condition. On the next level, below via outside staircase, is another ensuite bedroom, this one having its own little sitting area and coffeemaker, with a full length terrace providing lounge chairs and a hammock. Continuing down the outside stairwell brings one to the pool terrace, with lounge chairs for basking in the sun or sitting in the shade. All three levels provide outstanding, breathtaking views of Coral Bay and the BVI chain to Virgin Gorda. It is a special day to awaken to the beautiful sunrise and end the day gazing at the "reverse sunset". The full Snow Moon occurred during our visit, and the sight of the moonlight across the water was stunning. The main road to the villa is up a fairly steep well maintained road, Rte 108. The road leading from 108 to IH is very steep, and 4WD is a MUST!!!! Your initial undertaking of this drive is a bit intimidating, but once it is accomplished, it becomes moot. There is plenty of designated parking for the villa. There is a substantial variety of restaurants nearby, as well as small markets which are quite well stocked, especially Dolphin at the bottom of the hill at Aqua Bistro. North Shore beaches are within 12 minutes drive. The villa provides beach chairs and towels, as well as coolers. We feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to meet Marie-France and Ed, and thank them for opening their beautiful home to us who need an escape from winter."

  • A perfect, relaxing, beautiful week!

"This was our first stay at Sunrise. We hope to return! My family and I arrived for Spring Break and were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the house and view overlooking Coral Bay. The house was very clean, spacious and comfortable. As you can see in the photos, the house is on a mountain side, which makes for the most spectacular breezes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It was so relaxing. Wayne and Rosanne, who are with the company that helps rent the property, met us to lead us to the house and were exceptionally warm and helpful. The ride up the mountain was super fun! Mike, the owner of the property, was very warm and helpful as well. Overall, this is a very warm, family-oriented yet classy and professional house rental. I can highly recommend this property for your stay at St. John!"

  • Beautiful views, comfortable cottage

"Deborah the property manager was great. She picked us up at the ferry dock and took us to pick up a jeep and groceries. The property was lovely with a great view. It had a well equipped kitchen and a large bathroom with washer and dryer upstairs, as well as a spacious master bedroom that opened directly to the veranda. Downstairs 2 BR's each had their own bathrooms. Nice trade wind breezes and ceiling fans kept it comfortable at night in late March. In the nearby town of Coral Bay we enjoyed dinner twice at the Aqua Point restaurant. The food was fresh and there was a lovely singer who sang classic pop tunes. Our favorite beach was Hansen Beach where we could snorkel and rent kayaks. Warning, the house is not air-conditioned so I would not recommend it for later than Mid- April , unless you don't mind warm, humid environments. If we had time, I would have like to explore Cruz Bay more with it's cute shops and restaurants - but we had to go home. Overall, we had a great time and would stay here again."
