  • Great Stay

"We have been to St John at least a dozen times. We like the Coral Bay area as it is less hectic . We usually rent a villa on top of Beaurodeau Mountain for the views and breezes. With that being said we opted for a location on this trip that was a little closer to the water. The villa is a advertised. Being at a lower elevation allowed us to get to Coral Bay and the East End beaches faster. Also the Salt Pond area is easier to get to. But, being at a lower elevation does make it harder to enjoy the inside of the villa due to temperatures. The master bedroom does not really cool down as it has very high ceilings and a louvered door to the great room. Not sure what they were thinking with that. The lower two bedrooms are fine. The great room was usually too warm to sit during the day and it was still hot into the evening. This is not a real problem as there are great areas outside around the pool to relax. I would have given the villa 5 stars but with the issue stated above coupled with a rocky rutted dirt road leading to the villa I had to give it 4. Just be aware that many villas in the Coral Bay area do have dirt roads. Some can be much worse than the one to Secret Seashell. It did get a little old rocking over the pot holes and rocky sections. All in all a great trip."

  • Second visit to Sea Cottage

"This was our second visit to the Sea Cottage and it was just as wonderful as the first time. Monika and Jorge are such warm and friendly people. We were celebrating our third anniversary, and when we arrived we were so suprised to find a welcome note with a bottle of chilled champagne in the fridge! Since our last visit, they built their villa which is situated just below the Sea Cottage but because of the thick jungle, we never saw or heard them the entire time. We did bump into them a few times on our drive in or out and they were always made sure to ask if there was anything we needed. We had a power outage on the island one evening and Monika was quick to text us to let us know what was going on. We spent most of our time exploring St John's beautiful beaches, trying out some of the local eateries that we missed on our last visit, and hanging out at Aqua Bistro for drinks after a long day in the sun. We even got the chance to swim out to "Angels Rest Floating Bar" across from Vie's snack shack in Hanson Bay one afternoon. If you are looking for a romantic, secluded cottage for your next visit to St John you will fall in LOVE with this place. We will not hesitate to book our third trip here!!!"

  • Great location! Spectacular view! And very cool house!

"We only stayed 3 nights, but would definitely recommend this as a great location to spend any length stay on St. John. Nina lives right there next door and she designed this very cool West Indies style bungalow. The house was very clean and with nice detail going into the design and décor. There was also access to snorkel and beach chairs which we put to good use, as well as kayaks down by the small beach below the house which we didn't get time to use in the adjacent cove. Located near Coral bay, this house is on the quiet side of the island, but there are a few dining options ranging in price, with our favorite being Skinny Legs for the beach bar style atmosphere and burgers, plus there are small groceries on that side. Make sure to stock up on bottled water for drinking, as with many Virgin Island properties, the tap water is via rain cisterns. Access to the amazing north shore beaches is convenient, with Maho, Cinnamon, and Trunk (get there early to park) all providing great views, calm clear water, and amazing snorkeling. It's about 30 minutes to Cruz Bay where the ferries dock, along with the plenty of shopping, dining, and car rentals."

  • Great place to stay in the mountains

"The hosts were excellent, couldn't have done a better job at communicating with us, answering text messages while en-route and during arrival, replacing little things to keep us happy that we ran out of, and just generally being great hosts. We stayed here for a week with our two older children (8 and 5), and used the home as a place to sleep and eat breakfast in, during the day we were snorkeling for 3-5 hours and enjoying the beaches and adventure of St. John. We were expecting the temperature to be lower in the mountains as per the explanation and description of the property, unfortunately we found the opposite to be true. It was very warm, but more importantly the humidity was oppressive, sleep was a bit of a challenge, and the wetsuits never dried during the late afternoons, evenings and over night, which was a bummer. All things considered this is a wonderful place to stay and you can't beat the price for a 2 bedroom place on the island. It's probably better to stay there in the spring time for a temperature decrease, staying there in July really is quite hot (mid 80's and very high humidity). Of course, there is a good chance I'm just a big softy, I am a European after all :) Last but not least our son Jack couldn't have been more thankful for the abundant supply of little geckos in and around the property. Challenging to catch, they provided hours of entertainment for him on a daily basis! Thank you for opening your home to us!"
