  • Every expectation exceeded

"As some of the very first guests to stay in this newly built house, we stumbled upon a rare gem in Caribbean rentals. We enthusiastically recommend this beautiful property and hope to go back some day. First and foremost, the location is unbeatable. Close enough to grocery stores and Cruz Bay that running an errand or going out to dinner is an easy drive. The house is thoughtfully designed and sits on a nice piece of property with an incredible view. The interior finishes are also beautifully done with many nice touches we were still noticing days into our trip. The house even has a tiny yard, which our children enjoyed. Everything in the house is brand new (from the linens, to the appliances to the beach chairs). What a rare treat in a rental home. And, even though new, the owners clearly put a great deal of thought into what a home needs and it wasn't lacking for anything. The kitchen is lovely to work in and very well equipped. The space itself is very well laid out. I was most concerned about outdoor space, and there is a gorgeous pool, sun deck and shaded lounge area (complete with couches and a table for dining). One note for anyone with children. From the description its hard to tell, but the four bedrooms (each equally beautiful) are not reached from the main interior living space. For each you go outside. We did discover mid-way through our trip two tiny fold-out cots in an entry hall that could easily be fashioned as a small bedroom for children. I was a bit nervous at first about the layout not wanting our 4 young children (ages 2-8) or 90 year old father-in-law wandering near the pool at night. This was easily solved (we ended up putting our kids above us, and using deck chairs to wall off the steps to the pool, so they could only get into the downstairs bedroom if they came looking for us). My father-in-law found the stairs into the house manageable and then it was all one level inside, as he took the room off the shaded porch. Each room has its own bath, so wandering around at night wasn't necessary. This house worked out perfectly for us. That said, you should ask the rental agency if you have any concerns about the accessibility or suitability for children. We loved this house and really do hope to go back some day. Its a truly gorgeous spot!"

  • Beautiful home with a stunning view.

"We have stayed at Cinnamon Hill for twelve weeks over the last three years. Sharon and Bill built and maintain a lovely home in the best location on St John in our opinion. We love the view of the archipelago to the north. With the sun at our backs, the deep blue and turquoise ocean colors in contrast to the lush green of Mary Point, Great Thatch, Jost Van Dyke, Tortola, etc. are stunning. Over the course of a week or more, cruise ships, yachts, power and sail boats of various shapes and sizes make their way around the archipelago. Many vessels moor in Francis Bay and Maho Bay below. We don't like to be in direct sun all the time, so facing north is perfect for us. Our daily ritual includes a two mile walk, swimming in the heated pool and soaking in the spa while gazing out at this incredible view. All of the North Shore beaches are in easy reach (by St John standards) by Jeep down John Head road to Route 20. The home is very well designed for island living with a combination of indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy at various times of the day. We like having central areas for gathering coupled with quite private spaces in the rooms. It is a great combination for longer stays especially. The bedrooms all have A/C, but we rarely need to use it when we are there. There are always nice breezes. Catherineberg is a fairly quiet community with lots of privacy. Once you are up there, you would think Cinnamon Hill was the only house on the road. On Friday nights when the wind is right, you can hear music from the West End on Tortola. Sharon & Bill do a lovely job of outfitting the rooms like a fine hotel. There is always a welcome meal and some basic provisions upon arrival. We make a quick run to the store after dropping off our bags, but you can grab a few things in Cruise Bay before you head out to the house or have food delivered, if you prefer. Cruise Bay is a bit over 15 minutes from the house, John Head Road is a bit off-putting the first time you see it. From Centerline Road, the entrance is narrow and rough, but much of the road is now paved and from the house to the Shore Road is nearly all paved...though very steep and with lots of sharp switchbacks. Don't be discouraged by the road. It leads to a stunning location and home. We love Cinnamon Hill and now make our stay there part of our annual calendar of events."

  • Amazing retreat in the treetops

"My husband and I just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at the Villa Alize. It was a spectacular week. We loved the location, the views, and the well-equipped nature of the wonderful cottage. Francis and Andrew could not be more helpful. Francis met us at the car barge and then waited while we did some quick grocery shopping. Driving in St. John is an adventure and the driveway to the cottage should be in a Jeep commercial, but the location on the peak is totally worth it! We've already booked the Villa again for next winter."
