  • Beautiful gardens and lush landscape, secluded and peaceful property, so many butterflies and birds

"We were so lucky to have stayed at this beautifully maintained home for 10 days to attend a wedding. Have been to Costa Rica for vacations during our Canadian winter but never at this time of year. Every morning would spend a couple of hours comfortably enjoying a coffee and nature from the patio. The kitchen and living area were separate from the bedrooms so early morning risers did not wake those still sleeping. Home fully equipped and we found nothing lacking. As the 4 of us staying there were all female felt very safe and secure in a gated community. We did not rent a car but were close enough to Atenas to walk or cab for 2 colones. We would most definitely recommend this home to friends."

  • Casa Doughty- Amazing

"We stayed at Casa Doughty during the week of Thanksgiving, 2015. There were 7 people in our group ranging in age from 16 years to 77 years old. This place was exactly as described and perfect for our family and friends. My main concern was for the 77 year old (my mom). My mother had a slight stroke a year ago and stairs can be well as floor rugs. Casa Doughty was very easy for her to navigate, both inside and out. The grounds and pool are beautifully maintained. The inside was very clean and the kitchen was equipped with anything you may need. We ran into one slight problem regarding a car rental. However, a quick email and one phone conversation with Steve and Diane quickly had the matter resolved. Atenas and Casa Doughty are perfectly situated for having a "home base" and having access to many other places. We visited volcanoes (Poas and Arenal), went deep sea fishing in Jaco , visited beaches (my favorite was Playa Dona Ana where we were able to feed Capacin monkeys), toured a nearby coffee plantation and enjoyed the city of Atenas. In order to do these things a rental car is a MUST. Yes, driving in Costa Rica is different from driving in the states, and usually takes longer due to road conditions, but it is hardly the nightmare some have alluded. A good GPS (usually provided by the car rental agency), a wee bit of caution and common sense are all that one needs to successfully navigate Costa Rican roads. I would highly recommend Casa Doughty!"

  • Peace and beauty!

"My husband and I ended our 16 day vacation in Costa Rica at this insanely beautiful paradise! We have been traveling twice a year for the past 6 years to Costa Rica and usually stay at multiple places each time as we like to explore. You could explore this property every day and see something new! We found two sloths the first day that the property owners were unaware of!! Birds, butterflies and flowers galore! They have created the most gorgeous botanical garden we have ever seen!! Besides all of that, the cottage was perfect as was the refreshing swimming pool! We made fresh orange juice every morning from the oranges on the property! Monika was so wonderful to talk to every day, also! I only left the property once during our six day stay to visit the surrounding towns. My husband and I decided this area of the country is where we will be moving to this coming spring! So grateful to M and B for giving us our most peaceful stay ever!"
