  • Beautiful gardens and lush landscape, secluded and peaceful property, so many butterflies and birds

"We were so lucky to have stayed at this beautifully maintained home for 10 days to attend a wedding. Have been to Costa Rica for vacations during our Canadian winter but never at this time of year. Every morning would spend a couple of hours comfortably enjoying a coffee and nature from the patio. The kitchen and living area were separate from the bedrooms so early morning risers did not wake those still sleeping. Home fully equipped and we found nothing lacking. As the 4 of us staying there were all female felt very safe and secure in a gated community. We did not rent a car but were close enough to Atenas to walk or cab for 2 colones. We would most definitely recommend this home to friends."

  • Casa Doughty- Amazing

"We stayed at Casa Doughty during the week of Thanksgiving, 2015. There were 7 people in our group ranging in age from 16 years to 77 years old. This place was exactly as described and perfect for our family and friends. My main concern was for the 77 year old (my mom). My mother had a slight stroke a year ago and stairs can be tricky...as well as floor rugs. Casa Doughty was very easy for her to navigate, both inside and out. The grounds and pool are beautifully maintained. The inside was very clean and the kitchen was equipped with anything you may need. We ran into one slight problem regarding a car rental. However, a quick email and one phone conversation with Steve and Diane quickly had the matter resolved. Atenas and Casa Doughty are perfectly situated for having a "home base" and having access to many other places. We visited volcanoes (Poas and Arenal), went deep sea fishing in Jaco , visited beaches (my favorite was Playa Dona Ana where we were able to feed Capacin monkeys), toured a nearby coffee plantation and enjoyed the city of Atenas. In order to do these things a rental car is a MUST. Yes, driving in Costa Rica is different from driving in the states, and usually takes longer due to road conditions, but it is hardly the nightmare some have alluded. A good GPS (usually provided by the car rental agency), a wee bit of caution and common sense are all that one needs to successfully navigate Costa Rican roads. I would highly recommend Casa Doughty!"

  • Awesome mountain view retreat!

"When my two daughters, 18 and 21 and their two friends drove through the gate our jaws dropped. This place is gorgeous. the main house is two story - bamboo Pacific Island design. The entire second floor is the master bedroom complete with a hot tub. The guest house has two bedrooms. The landscaping is immaculate. It is about a half hour away from the airport. If you stay in the area make sure to catch the El Toledo Coffee Tour. I would recommend this home to any of my friends."

  • 5 star (would book again or refer to family/friends without hesitation )

"5+ star (without hesitate to go again or recommend) ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This property was more then expected. With the 5 star rating, we expected a great home and it exceeded our expectations. We went with another couple and it was perfect. We had our own private villa and our guests had there own villa as well. Then we met in the afternoons/evenings for games, dinner in the main quarters. The pool and jacuzzi was large and spacious. Plenty of great places to eat in town - 5 minute drive. La Finca Pizzeria was great and we stopped there twice on our 1 week stay. And only about 30 minute drive from San Juan Airport. About a 1 hr and 15 minute drive to Jaco (beach area/surfing). The home was away from everything but close enough for anything you might want to do. If you are going to Costa Rica, you should book here. More then worth it."
