  • Outstanding Property!

"Absolutely breathtaking property. Private gated property in the wonderful town of Atena's. Weather was just perfect. Hot during the day and nice an cool at night. The home was really safe and comfortable. Two pools and view's to die for. We traveled all over Costa Rica from this vantage point. From Monteverde to Manuel Antonio to Jaco and Arenal. Driving the countryside of CR was amazing. The roads can be a bit challenging, so we made sure we got up early and returned in the daylight. Even though there was a lot of time in the car, each drive was stunning and the end destination totally worth it. Thanks to Barry and Claudia for the birthday cake for my daughters who turned 16 during the trip. Nice touch from two classy people. The caretaker, Aud, was available via email in an instant. Very helpful. Pura Vida and Gracias. We would highly recommend the property."

  • Casa Doughty- Amazing

"We stayed at Casa Doughty during the week of Thanksgiving, 2015. There were 7 people in our group ranging in age from 16 years to 77 years old. This place was exactly as described and perfect for our family and friends. My main concern was for the 77 year old (my mom). My mother had a slight stroke a year ago and stairs can be tricky...as well as floor rugs. Casa Doughty was very easy for her to navigate, both inside and out. The grounds and pool are beautifully maintained. The inside was very clean and the kitchen was equipped with anything you may need. We ran into one slight problem regarding a car rental. However, a quick email and one phone conversation with Steve and Diane quickly had the matter resolved. Atenas and Casa Doughty are perfectly situated for having a "home base" and having access to many other places. We visited volcanoes (Poas and Arenal), went deep sea fishing in Jaco , visited beaches (my favorite was Playa Dona Ana where we were able to feed Capacin monkeys), toured a nearby coffee plantation and enjoyed the city of Atenas. In order to do these things a rental car is a MUST. Yes, driving in Costa Rica is different from driving in the states, and usually takes longer due to road conditions, but it is hardly the nightmare some have alluded. A good GPS (usually provided by the car rental agency), a wee bit of caution and common sense are all that one needs to successfully navigate Costa Rican roads. I would highly recommend Casa Doughty!"

  • We thoroughly enjoy our time in San Mateo.

"We have been to this property several times and it suits us perfectly as a way to escape the Canadian weather. We particularly enjoy listening to the Ottawa morning radio show via internet and hearing reports of -25 deg. weather back home. The accommodation is great. The property is very well maintained and Dona Carmen comes in regularly to clean the casita. The owners are very helpful and friendly and willing to correct any problems that occur immediately. The property is in a rural setting so you will need a car to get around. The location is perfect for touring the countryside, going to the beach or visiting San Jose."

  • 5 Star, Blue Ribbon, Gold Medal, Best in Show

"We arrived after having spent a week on one of Costa Rica's fabulous beaches. Our girls are surfers so we split our time 60% Beach, 40% Mountains. We couldn't believe the beauty & peace of this incredible villa. We think we made a terrible mistake not spending our entire time here!(Only half kidding!) When we could convince everyone to leave this paradise, we explored Poas & the town of Atenas. Our favorite excursion was the 'El Toledo Organic Coffee Farm tour'. Jeraldo was so welcoming & we figured out a way to communicate despite our limited Spanish & his limited English! This villa is so spectacular that we are trying to figure out how we can replicate the ambience in our home in Florida. Thank you, Joe, for allowing us to enjoy your little slice of heaven. We hope to become regulars! Pura Vida!"
