  • What ever you do, don't forget your binoculars...

"....a camera, and your own Guide to the Birds of Costa Rica because the bird watching from the second floor porch every morning is absolutely incredible and the view of the cloud covered mountains in the distance is magnificent. The villa is half way between Cartago and Paraíso, out of way from the hustle and bustle of both towns. A 4x4 vehicle is almost a must to have for the road to the villa and for some of the National parks in the area. The house 2 stories and can comfortable sleep 6 and max out around 10 people. It has a full kitchen and dining area, laundry facilities and everything else you might need for a relaxing, quiet vacation. The caretaker comes over almost every morning to put out food for the birds, their favorite is bananas, and she even brought us breakfast one morning. This is a get-away spot, far, far from crazy San Jose but that's why you come here, for the peace and quiet....."

  • Alana and Steve (the girl who talks a lot)

"We wanted to do a home-stay to get a true feel for the Costa Rican culture. I can't imagine staying in a better home, with a better family. The food was absolutely delicious, and it was particularly exciting to do a cooking lesson with them. They toured us through their farm (beautiful!), took us repelling down waterfalls and swimming in beautiful clean rivers, they even invited us to join them in a family celebration as one of the daughters was soon to be married. It warmed my heart to see how close the large family was, they spent so much time together. I honestly didn't want to leave. It was my favourite part of the trip. The home was clean, the food was delicious, the view was incredible and the family was kind and warm. Thank you for inviting us into your home. I can't wait to come back!"

  • Stunning house with a jaw dropping view.

"This place is incredible! The house is meticulously maintained and the view of the valley below is breath taking. Every morning the local birds would put on a show. It is worth getting up at 6:30 to see it even if you go back to bed afterwards . We saw toucans, Montezuma birds, flocks of parakeets and many others from the deck every morning. There is a couple, Yami and Franklin, that live on the property in another house that are wonderful. Franklin even accompanied our family on a day trip to a nearby waterfall (The one in the picture.) He brought along a machete (I'm assuming for snakes because the trail was well maintained) and a rescue rope in case one of my daughters (7 and 10 years old) got themselves into trouble. We went to see the ruins in Ujarras and while the ruins were OK, the drive out was one of the most beautiful drives I've ever taken in my life. We accidentally took the long way around Lago Alto and the road wound through the mountain valleys where they grow coffee. It was spectacular. It was one of the best navigational errors I've ever made. The hot tub is beyond words, we were in it every night. The temperature in the house was perfect day and night largely due to it's design. Air flows through the house very well and some of the walls do not join the ceiling in every room. The only draw back is that sound communicates through out the house as easily as the air does. We could hear everything our daughters said in the room down the hall and vice versa, so any romance would require discretion."
