  • This IS the place to stay!

"We stayed a week March '16. It is hotter than the hubs of he-double-hockey-sticks, so be prepared! The property has security, very well manicured grounds, is small and quaint, off the beaten path, literally a few steps from the pool, and 1 minute walk through the locked gate to the ocean! The accommodations are great - private laundry rm - soap included, 2 single beds in one bedroom, a queen bed in the master with a master bath. Living room, dining and kitchen are spacious and have all that you need. 2nd bath off the living space that the teenagers used. Lots of towels! Kitchen is well stocked - dish soap included. There is a charcoal grill on the patio, but charcoal is more expensive than at home (Minnesota) and the fluid is a gel that is barely sufficient. The only thing I would improve on the property is the outside chairs as they have probably seen their better days, but were still functional for coffee in the a.m. and wine in the p.m. while listening to the ocean. You will see iguanas and geckos on property, as well as some birds. This property is off the beaten path, but still very close to town - 3 min drive. Be sure to hit the farmers market right down the road from the property on Saturday a.m. - pineapple is to die for! Beach walks are a must - go during low tide to check out the tide pools. If you have a car, go to the town of Guatil to check out the hand made pottery (the office can direct you) - 1st house on the left in town is Edwin - he is fantastic! He will give you a full tour and explanation of their pottery making process that has been handed down over generations. He took us to the backyard and there were iguanas in his mango tree as well as a Howler monkey! Awesome! Ask questions! Be sure to check out Tamarindo Beach, the boat tour in the Nat'l Park is worth it - monkeys eating from our hands and on our heads! This is a very popular area for surfing. The roads suck, period. Rent an SUV for sure. Don't eat at the Bocas restaurant - overpriced for what you get. Cooking in the villa saved us a ton of money, but groceries are not as cheap there as they are here. We went to 3 different grocery stores - all were comparable, but be prepared, they aren't like at home! We did have a couple maintenance issues in our villa - staff was prompt in repairing those items. CR is experiencing a major drought, we ran out of water, they bought 10,000 gallons, pump went out, hand repaired, up and running again. Would stay again!"

  • Best Family Trip!

"We recently stayed at Casa Colina with our 2 teenaged daughters and another family who has 2 daughters the same age. The villa was perfect for us! There was ample room for everyone. Closet & drawer space was plentiful. The linen closet was well stocked with sheets & towels. The bathrooms were spacious and the kitchen had everything we needed. Glad to have the washer & dryer for daily laundering of dirty clothes/bathing suits from all our adventures! It was also very helpful to have the safe for our valuable items. The villa wasn't just functional, it was also beautifully decorated. Everything looked beachy & fresh. It was a pleasure to be there! In terms of Bahia Pez Vela, we felt very safe - there's a security gate. Walk to the beach was only a minute or so. There is a pretty steep hill that you can't get around when going to the beach, so if you have trouble walking that might not be ideal, but was fine for us. It is a little tucked away, but we loved that. The cove is gorgeous & it was nice to have a virtually private beach. We ate at the on-premise restaurant, Picante, one evening & everyone enjoyed it. We wished they had a breakfast offering. Cesar & Jacky in the office were helpful with suggestions & securing taxis. Prior to our trip, Neil, the homeowner, was very responsive & helpful. In terms of Guanacaste, GO! The country is beautiful, the people are friendly, the food is excellent and the activities are endless! We will go again & we would absolutely stay at Casa Colina again!"

  • Perfection!!

"I can't express enough how amazing Mike and Irma (owners of Twin Dolphins B&B) were during our one week stay. Me, my husband and a couple friend of ours stayed in their penthouse room which was very adequate space for us. We had our own patio with a beautiful view of the beach right at our front door basically. The location was very quiet and not too many people around. Every morning they prepared a delicious breakfast for us that started with coffee and assortment of fruits and then whatever he decided to cook for us - EVERYTHING was delicious! Mike is a man who wears many hats! His stories are incredible and he has so much knowledge of the country. You can tell he absolutely loves Costa Rica. His wife Irma is precious as well! Mike helped us book our tours that we wanted and was just a great resource throughout the trip. If you want an adventurous and memorable experience, do the Adventure Day at Hacienda Guachipelin! BEST EXPERIENCE!! That included zip-lining, horseback riding, white water rafting and a volcanic mud bath with hot springs. It was all of our first time doing anything like that. We stayed pretty local so we didn't rent a car. We mostly walked or got a taxi a few times to visit the neighboring beaches (Flamingo and Conchal). We truly left a piece of us there and we told them we would back definitely! They left the best impression and I would recommend them to anyone who visits. BEST VACATION EVER! Thank you Mike and Irma for everything! Pura Vida!"

  • Wonderful Stay in Tamarindo

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Matapalo 502 was clean and had a great view. Only issue was that power was out the day we left, but that had noting to do with the property or the management."
