  • Submerged in nature…

"Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay! The property is surrounded by such beautiful nature. We saw so many birds and monkeys! The walk down to the creek with waterfall was amazing – definitely recommend taking a dip in the water. Everything was as described, or better. Mike and Cindy were so genuinely friendly and helpful! They have a tons of information they didn’t hesitate to share. Thank you for all the recommendations and suggestions! If we ever find ourselves back in Costa Rica, this is the place where we’ll be staying. Thank you for a wonderful time!"

  • Highly recommended for families

"We had a wonderful 2 night stay in the large green house (2 adults, 2 kids). Loved the hammock on balcony and ping pong table. House has a full kitchen, comfortable beds, high water pressure in the showers. Richard has great recommendations and is able to offer discounts on many activities. We loved the hanging bridges at Selvatura and saw a quetzal near bridge #4. One of the highlights was walking up the road from the house to the Rosewood bowl shop, touring the orchid garden (free), chatting with the owners, and picking out a few bowls to bring home. Don’t miss nearby restaurant Sabor Tico (driveable) and the local bakery (walkable). Thank you Richard!"

  • A great retreat with beautiful surroundings

"We stayed in the Zabala house and enjoyed the beautiful setting. The views from the top deck were fabulous and watching the different varieties of birds and butterflies from the porch and through the windows was fabulous. Ken was away when we arrived but we were greeted by Alex who was so welcoming. He is such a nice young man and always had a smile on his face. He is very proud of the farm and was happy to answer any of our questions! He gave us loads of information about the coffee plantation (and later an extensive tour of the property), local history and suggestions for activies and restaurants. We visited during 'rainy' season but were lucky enough not to have any rain during the days. We were greeted each morning by the family dog, Stella and listened to Coco the parrot from the porch and also when leaving or returning to Finca Flor Mar. The home is exactly as described and worked well for us. It would have been nice to have a bathroom upstairs too but we knew that when we booked. We enjoyed the experience of staying on a farm in the countryside with such beautiful surroundings. Ken's communication in arranging our stay was always prompt. When we left to travel to La Fortuna, Ken had arrived back on the farm and recommended a lunch stop and also a restaurant to try for dinner. We went to both and were not disappointed! The dinner spot, Gingerbread, was a 45 drive from our next accommodation but well worth the drive to get there! I even texted Ken while we were there to let him know how fabulous it was and to thank him for the suggestion! Pura Vida!"

  • July 2016 - Family Vacation

"My wife and I and four teenage children loved this property. The setting is breathtaking, with views of the volcano and lake. Very nicely landscaped, with many species of birds visiting. Viewing the sun setting over the lake from the 2nd floor veranda hammock is an ABSOLUTE MUST! Large rooms with great views provided plenty of space for everyone's needs. We could comfortably gather as a group, or retreat to one's own space. The on-site WIFI easily powered all of our devices, and kept the teens happy. Along with the pool table, awesome large swimming pool and hot tub. Great for unwinding after a day of adventure. The property is conveniently located- a short trip (5 min.) to town for shopping and eating out if you desire (although the on-property kitchen is large and well-equipped to prepare anything if you choose). A freshly made, hot breakfast was provided each day- a great treat that allowed us to be into the day's events quickly each morning. A short drive (less than an hour) to numerous destinations like canyoning, zip-lining, hot springs, volcano. Michelle was very helpful in setting us up with reservations for adventure outings and dinner- in several cases she managed to get deals better than published rates. Alex was great, and led the daily horseback rides through the countryside, pointing out the toucan nests as we went! Highly recommend for groups and families."
