  • Great place to stay

"I stayed at Villa Tucan for 5 nights on a girls getaway. It is a spacious 3 bedroom condo that is very close to the beach, pool and on site restaurant. The kitchen was well equipped, everything was clean and the decorations were cheerful. There is also plenty to do nearby. The condo is in a development called Playa Pez Vela which is in its own beautiful and secluded black sand cove. The snorkeling from the beach is fantastic and at low tide one can walk on the rocks and tide pools to the next cove over (Playa Ocotal). The waves in the cove are small and it is a great place to swim. Of course, the pool was refreshing and beautiful. We took a number of walks from the Villa where we saw Howler monkeys, colorful birds, scuttling crabs, iguanas and the biggest toad ever. The staff at the Playa Pez Vela was really helpful and responded immediately when we had an issue. The owners, Henry and Liz, are friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this place as a base for travelling in this part of Costa Rica."

  • Wonderful

"We recently had a fabulous stay at Villa Gecko. Mary, the owner made the arrangements as easy as can be, and was in constant contact for months leading up to the trip. She provided valuable information not only about the resort, but the entire area. The villa is exactly as described, no surprises. It is well stocked and very clean. The private pool and jacuzzi were a real treat, and we spent alot of time enjoying them. The resort staff are readily available, and very friendly and helpful. They would even call for taxi's for us when we requested, which was very helpful considering the language barrier. The restaurant, Picante was a favorite afternoon activity for drinks and snacks, and the staff there were wonderful. (Thanks Cesar, Juan, and Gabrielle!) We were fortunate to be able to see the howler monkeys every day, (when you go out the back door, look to the left, near the bottom of the hill). The beautiful birds were always around, and will eat out of your hand. We also saw a large iguana several days, and were visited every night by the cutest and friendliest pair of raccoons! The beach is beautiful black sand, and swimming in the ocean was fun, but I would caution people to watch children very carefully, and not swim alone, as the current can be very strong at times. We had great snorkeling just off our beach near the rocks to the right. We did not rent a car, as we were weary of things we had read about the driving in CR, and found it perfectly ok getting around by taxi. The cost to go to town is 10 dollars, and every time we wanted to go grocery shopping, the cabs had no problem waiting for us, and did not charge for the wait time. It is a good idea to verify the price before you take the ride, as unfortunately there are a few who will prey on your ignorance. We had arranged the airport transfers through the resort and were told that it was 50 dollars, payable directly to the driver. When we were dropped off at the villa however, the driver told me it was 80 dollars. I called him out on it and he backed right off, but I can see how easily somebody with a more timid personality could be taken advantage of. For activities, we did deep sea fishing, palo verde river tour, heliconias rain forest, and snorkeling. We loved Villa Gecko, and loved Costa Rica. Can't wait to return to both! Pura Vida!"

  • Best Family Trip!

"We recently stayed at Casa Colina with our 2 teenaged daughters and another family who has 2 daughters the same age. The villa was perfect for us! There was ample room for everyone. Closet & drawer space was plentiful. The linen closet was well stocked with sheets & towels. The bathrooms were spacious and the kitchen had everything we needed. Glad to have the washer & dryer for daily laundering of dirty clothes/bathing suits from all our adventures! It was also very helpful to have the safe for our valuable items. The villa wasn't just functional, it was also beautifully decorated. Everything looked beachy & fresh. It was a pleasure to be there! In terms of Bahia Pez Vela, we felt very safe - there's a security gate. Walk to the beach was only a minute or so. There is a pretty steep hill that you can't get around when going to the beach, so if you have trouble walking that might not be ideal, but was fine for us. It is a little tucked away, but we loved that. The cove is gorgeous & it was nice to have a virtually private beach. We ate at the on-premise restaurant, Picante, one evening & everyone enjoyed it. We wished they had a breakfast offering. Cesar & Jacky in the office were helpful with suggestions & securing taxis. Prior to our trip, Neil, the homeowner, was very responsive & helpful. In terms of Guanacaste, GO! The country is beautiful, the people are friendly, the food is excellent and the activities are endless! We will go again & we would absolutely stay at Casa Colina again!"

  • Absolutely Perfect!

"Absolutely Perfect! ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My two daughters and significant other stayed in the villa to celebrate my 60th birthday. The villa is spectacular from the view to the furnishings both inside and out to the layout and to the location. It was nice my daughters each had their own bedroom with very comfortable beds. We enjoyed the master suite with the attached bathroom. The half bath was also very nice to have. The little gardening sink area with the clothes lines were nice to dry towels. It was also nice to have a washer and dryer available. We so enjoyed eating outside at night under the stars after grilling dinner. There were so many comfortable sitting spaces outside both on the lower level and the upper deck. The garden area surrounding the lower patio was beautiful as was the view. The inside furnishings are very comfortable and the villa is supplied with everything you could possibly want. The rental process was smooth and seamless. We did early morning (6 AM) walks everyday walking up and down alot of hills. It is quite a sweaty walk up the hills from the lower pool and Picante, but not too bad early in the morning. Great views walking up even higher from the villa. The howler monkeys entertained us every morning and every evening at the upper pool which is a few villas down from this one. The Bahia Pez Vela map does not show this infinity pool, but we used it more than the lower one. Most of the time we were the only ones in it except for late afternoon when a few others would join us. We had a car which I would recommend so you can go to Father Rooster's and in to Playas del Coco. I would highly recommend this villa! Thank you Emily so much for allowing us to rent your villa!"
