  • Fantastic Location for the family

"We were a family of 8 (4 adults and 4 kids) and spent two weeks at Villa Las Olas. This is a great location in a quiet community of Ocotal. The villa was spacious and very comfortable for the eight of us - kids made use of the small "cooling off" jacuzzi on the balcony as well as the outdoor pool. We were walking distance to the beach as well as the Beach club where there was an infinity pool for our use. Kids loved the beach and thats where they spent most of their time. Father Rooster is right on the beach - very convenient if you dont want to get in the car to get to a restaurant. We had two cars - which we recommend if you want to explore the area. We spent a lot of time visiting Coco (restaurants and groceries) and exploring the Guantacasa area. The villa comes with everything you need (towels, washer/dryer, hairdryers, coffee machine, blender, dishes, pots, pans, etc... As well as a Flatscreen in the family room and WIFI. On a few occasions when we were exhausted, we utilized the TV and WIFI to watch some movies. WIFI connection wasnt working when we first arrived but response was quick when we notified the owners. It was intermittent when it was working but I think thats normal in this area. We will miss waking up, making our coffee and sitting on the balcony in the morning enjoying the wonderful view of Ocotal! This place was heaven! Highly recommend this villa for a family!!"

  • Great place to stay! What you see is what you get!!

"Ending a beautiful week here in Costa Rica! We had a great trip due largely in part to Al who made booking the villa and all the details super easy and also Cesar in the front office who not only arranged our transportation to and from the airport but also helped us book tours, etc. Fantastic staff at the resort only enhanced our experience. The villa was everything it was advertised to be!!! Clean and tastefully decorated, the villa is located a mere 10 steps to the pool and just a few hundred yards from the most beautiful private beach I've ever seen. Great place for a relaxing trip away with the girls or a low-key, hang at the beach week with your family. The pool and the beach were rarely crowded and most mornings (being early risers) we had the entire beach and pool to ourselves. It was almost like being on your own island with modern amenities!!!! We did not rent a car while we were here and I do not feel that we missed out on anything by not doing so. While the resort itself seems fairly isolated and unspoiled, when we wanted to go into town it was just a short taxi ride away. In town, you can easily walk the strip between Coco Beach and the main drag so shopping and dining was easy and hassle free. We will definitely recommend this rental to our friends and family back home and hope to come again ourselves in the near future!!"

  • Wonderful

"We recently had a fabulous stay at Villa Gecko. Mary, the owner made the arrangements as easy as can be, and was in constant contact for months leading up to the trip. She provided valuable information not only about the resort, but the entire area. The villa is exactly as described, no surprises. It is well stocked and very clean. The private pool and jacuzzi were a real treat, and we spent alot of time enjoying them. The resort staff are readily available, and very friendly and helpful. They would even call for taxi's for us when we requested, which was very helpful considering the language barrier. The restaurant, Picante was a favorite afternoon activity for drinks and snacks, and the staff there were wonderful. (Thanks Cesar, Juan, and Gabrielle!) We were fortunate to be able to see the howler monkeys every day, (when you go out the back door, look to the left, near the bottom of the hill). The beautiful birds were always around, and will eat out of your hand. We also saw a large iguana several days, and were visited every night by the cutest and friendliest pair of raccoons! The beach is beautiful black sand, and swimming in the ocean was fun, but I would caution people to watch children very carefully, and not swim alone, as the current can be very strong at times. We had great snorkeling just off our beach near the rocks to the right. We did not rent a car, as we were weary of things we had read about the driving in CR, and found it perfectly ok getting around by taxi. The cost to go to town is 10 dollars, and every time we wanted to go grocery shopping, the cabs had no problem waiting for us, and did not charge for the wait time. It is a good idea to verify the price before you take the ride, as unfortunately there are a few who will prey on your ignorance. We had arranged the airport transfers through the resort and were told that it was 50 dollars, payable directly to the driver. When we were dropped off at the villa however, the driver told me it was 80 dollars. I called him out on it and he backed right off, but I can see how easily somebody with a more timid personality could be taken advantage of. For activities, we did deep sea fishing, palo verde river tour, heliconias rain forest, and snorkeling. We loved Villa Gecko, and loved Costa Rica. Can't wait to return to both! Pura Vida!"

  • Lovely property with amazing view

"Our party of 10 had a great visit at Casa Holmes. Nita is very easy to work with and the local management company was very helpful. We found the area very easy to navigate and took unguided excursions to Rio Perdido (zip lining and thermal pools) and Tamarindo (surfing lessons). We are had 2 great days of fishing with Papagayo Sport Fishing. Rocio's Kitchen prepared a lovely meal for us upon our arrival - making our travel day and getting set in the house very easy. The home has everything you might need for a big group...ample sleeping spaces, plenty of towels, and a well furnished kitchen. Other reviews note a very steep driveway....it is! - but not a problem at all (get an automatic if you rent a car and are not an expert with manual transmissions...it's part of the fun!!)."
