  • Idyllic beach house, with miles of pristine beach

"This house is a special place. It is a carefully decorated house, with a backyard garden that leads you to a pristine 3-mile long semi-private beach. Playa Grande, which is separated by an estuary from the much more crowded and touristy Playa Tamarindo. Interestingly enough, hardly anyone from Playa Tamarindo crosses over to Playa Grande, as far as we could tell. So, you end up on Playa Grande with a beautiful expanse of beach, with hardly anyone around. It's lovely. My wife, 15-year old son, and I just returned from a fantastic week at Casa Baula. The house is well-appointed and maintained. Compared to our many short-term rental stays in northern California, this house had the most well stocked kitchen we've seen. Nice pots and pans, tons of dishes and glassware, the classic Osterizer blender powering through the ice cubes in our guanabana and passion fruit smoothies. We felt very comfortable making all of our breakfasts and lunches in the house, and a few dinners as well. The services for the house are a real plus. The caretaker is always available by cell, and was happy to meet us at the house at 11 pm because our flight was delayed. As a retired professional chef, he even bakes delicious baguettes and croissants and delivers them in the morning to the house-- how cool is that! Cleaning staff spiffs up the house 3x per week, and it looks like the front and back yards are done weekly. The concierge service that the owners connect you with make the entire vacation a turnkey operation. They set you up with your rental car, airport transportation, and all your tours. All of that worked out flawlessly for us-- everything on time and very enjoyable. Since the concierge works out of the local surf shop, about a mile from the house, we had easy access to tons of surf boards. Paddle boarding at playa grande I would only do at low tide on a calm day, unless you're comfortable with waves. At this time of year, when the surf conditions aren't perfect, but still good, we quickly figured out the early morning high tide was good for surfing, and the low tide was fine for boogie boarding and walks on the beach. AC in the house worked great. The ping pong table was great fun-- even the paddles were in good condition. Wifi worked fine-- the master BR was sometimes a dead spot, but hey, you're in Costa Rica so you should be disconnecting a bit anyway. Very nice to have a full washer and dryer. We used the outdoor gas grill for a few dinners--worked great."

  • Everything We Expected and More!

"My son had and I spent a wonderful week here. The home was wonderful, the pool was fantastic, the beach was beautiful and so close. Mike, the owner is so nice and welcomed us with a wonderful basket of tropical fruits, bottled water and cold beer! He also comes every morning very early to clean the pool, and is easily reachable by phone/email should you need anything, a real pleasure! There are cute little cafe/restaurants within walking distance, a small produce store to pick up fruit/veggies, water, soda, wine, chips, medicine, etc.. We rented a bike ($10) for the entire day, and biked all around the neighborhood and area. Also took a water taxi to the 'bigger' town Tamarindo across the estuary, as well as an estuary tour. We had a car and so drove all over, and also signed up for the One Day Adventure Combo at Hacienda Guachipeli - what a day! Zip lining (9), Tarzan Swing, horseback riding, swimming by the waterfalls, repelling and lunch! Highly recommend. My son also took surf lessons at the beach next to the house, from Frijoles Locos, the local Surf Shop - he loved it and did great! And of course, we also loved coming home to Mike's wonderful place and relaxing, having dinner outside on the patio, and of course enjoying the pool! * If you rent a car, highly advise to rent a 4x4, even a small one - many of the roads in Costa Rica are bumpy/pot holes/dirt roads, etc. Thank you Mike! Pura Vida!"

  • Great location, and roomy property

"We stayed 8 days at this house and the place was very spacious, with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The living area was also big and comfortable. The only thing it was missing was a proper dining table inside. There is a large one outside with benches but it gets dark and mosquitoes eat you alive. The pool area was nice, private and the garden was luxurious. It was kept clean everyday by the maintenance staff. The beach is few minutes walking. Maritza, the lady who welcomed us, was so generous of her time and services. The little grocery store next to the property is practical but very small and expensive. If you need to do proper groceries, go to Mega Super, 12 km driving distance. We highly recommend having a car to stay in that area. After 6PM, there is a security guard that opens a gate to get into the community."

  • Truly Beach front

"We were a small yoga group staying 3 nights in early April, 2016. Feels like 10-12 could fit comfortably, so we had lots of space. Very comfortable. Beach was nicer than expected, good for wading and body or boogie boarding. Not many places to eat really close, but a 10 minute walk will get you to a couple decent places. Kimberly will cook for you for a price. It was good food, although I our group is very health conscious, and we noticed that she used some ingredients we could prefer to live without. She also charged a $30 taxi fee to pick up food, so be aware of that. There is a phone on site, which was handy, although it took me a day to know it was there. Marianela is the contact there and can help you with activities and rides, although one of the rides she set us up with tried to get another $20 out of my client at the airport, not very respectful. Overall, a really nice place."
