  • Peaceful Retreat

"Recently stayed at Casa Marina. Nice quiet neighborhood with several restaurants within walking distance and a mini super grocery store. Everyone very pleasant and welcoming. Marina was very friendly but also gives you your own space. Our villa was very clean and comfortable. AC and amenities for cooking. Pool was also cleaned throughout the day and was always cool and refreshing. Felt very private. Marina set up a nice river tour with a guide that was very knowledgeable and sociable. We even learned a new way to slice and eat pineapple from him. Very short walk to beach. Low key community but accessible to Tamarindo with a short skip across the river on a river taxi for only a $1.00. Look for the German Bakery truck to come by on Tuesday and Friday afternoons beeping his horn. Picked up some great home made sausage and pastries."

  • Idyllic beach house, with miles of pristine beach

"This house is a special place. It is a carefully decorated house, with a backyard garden that leads you to a pristine 3-mile long semi-private beach. Playa Grande, which is separated by an estuary from the much more crowded and touristy Playa Tamarindo. Interestingly enough, hardly anyone from Playa Tamarindo crosses over to Playa Grande, as far as we could tell. So, you end up on Playa Grande with a beautiful expanse of beach, with hardly anyone around. It's lovely. My wife, 15-year old son, and I just returned from a fantastic week at Casa Baula. The house is well-appointed and maintained. Compared to our many short-term rental stays in northern California, this house had the most well stocked kitchen we've seen. Nice pots and pans, tons of dishes and glassware, the classic Osterizer blender powering through the ice cubes in our guanabana and passion fruit smoothies. We felt very comfortable making all of our breakfasts and lunches in the house, and a few dinners as well. The services for the house are a real plus. The caretaker is always available by cell, and was happy to meet us at the house at 11 pm because our flight was delayed. As a retired professional chef, he even bakes delicious baguettes and croissants and delivers them in the morning to the house-- how cool is that! Cleaning staff spiffs up the house 3x per week, and it looks like the front and back yards are done weekly. The concierge service that the owners connect you with make the entire vacation a turnkey operation. They set you up with your rental car, airport transportation, and all your tours. All of that worked out flawlessly for us-- everything on time and very enjoyable. Since the concierge works out of the local surf shop, about a mile from the house, we had easy access to tons of surf boards. Paddle boarding at playa grande I would only do at low tide on a calm day, unless you're comfortable with waves. At this time of year, when the surf conditions aren't perfect, but still good, we quickly figured out the early morning high tide was good for surfing, and the low tide was fine for boogie boarding and walks on the beach. AC in the house worked great. The ping pong table was great fun-- even the paddles were in good condition. Wifi worked fine-- the master BR was sometimes a dead spot, but hey, you're in Costa Rica so you should be disconnecting a bit anyway. Very nice to have a full washer and dryer. We used the outdoor gas grill for a few dinners--worked great."

  • Truly Beach front

"We were a small yoga group staying 3 nights in early April, 2016. Feels like 10-12 could fit comfortably, so we had lots of space. Very comfortable. Beach was nicer than expected, good for wading and body or boogie boarding. Not many places to eat really close, but a 10 minute walk will get you to a couple decent places. Kimberly will cook for you for a price. It was good food, although I our group is very health conscious, and we noticed that she used some ingredients we could prefer to live without. She also charged a $30 taxi fee to pick up food, so be aware of that. There is a phone on site, which was handy, although it took me a day to know it was there. Marianela is the contact there and can help you with activities and rides, although one of the rides she set us up with tried to get another $20 out of my client at the airport, not very respectful. Overall, a really nice place."

  • Family Vacation

"Our family of 10 rented the entire house and had a fabulous time! Alan & Kathy were extremely helpful in helping us book tours and suggest restaurants. The semi private beach which was only steps away was spectacular. The upstairs view was our favorite. The pool was refreshing and always clean. I would definitely recommend this home for someone looking to enjoy the beach without a crowd. We enjoyed everything about Costa Rica and our stay at the Villa De La Roca!"
