  • Great place to stay

"I stayed at Villa Tucan for 5 nights on a girls getaway. It is a spacious 3 bedroom condo that is very close to the beach, pool and on site restaurant. The kitchen was well equipped, everything was clean and the decorations were cheerful. There is also plenty to do nearby. The condo is in a development called Playa Pez Vela which is in its own beautiful and secluded black sand cove. The snorkeling from the beach is fantastic and at low tide one can walk on the rocks and tide pools to the next cove over (Playa Ocotal). The waves in the cove are small and it is a great place to swim. Of course, the pool was refreshing and beautiful. We took a number of walks from the Villa where we saw Howler monkeys, colorful birds, scuttling crabs, iguanas and the biggest toad ever. The staff at the Playa Pez Vela was really helpful and responded immediately when we had an issue. The owners, Henry and Liz, are friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this place as a base for travelling in this part of Costa Rica."

"OK, get your "bucket list" out and put this at the top: "Casa Sylmar, Playa Grande" :: Paradise Found! :: Circle up as long a stay as you can manage because it simply goes from better to best :: Our one piddly week the Ides of February 2016 was not near long enough (we booked Winter 2017 while there) :: Now improve on this if you can: You are ON the world's cleanest white-sand beach (no trash, no kelp, no campers, no seaweed, no dune buggies), with only palm trees between your terrace and gently sloping beach to the constant, soothing surf that is of a perfect temperature :: Here are some significant NOs: no rain, no bugs, no humidity, no anxiety, no hassle, no stress, no sense of time ( it is either night with more stars than you ever thought you could view [get the free Astronomy app for your phone] or it is day with beautiful weather, ideal temperature, and comforting on-shore breeze), no people (there are only about seven homes on the entire Playa) :: There are some surfers a couple hundred yards to your left near a good taco shack, and Rip Jack Restaurant is another hundred yards thataway but set back from the beach itself :: Rip Jack has delicious dishes from a menu that is varied and inventive; breakfast, lunch, and dinner :: I mean, really, you're not here to do a lot of prepping, cooking, and clean-up; you are on VA-CA-SHUN -- get away from the drudge :: I won't spend a lot of verbiage on the interior -- it is all as it should be; sumptuous, good spacious design, terrific structure, airy, lovely details, very nicely appointed, daily maid service, privacy, total security, etc :: Other reviews provide more detail but you won't be inside much anyway except to freshen your drink :: Do please read the other reviews and note that they all award Casa Sylmar a 5-Star ranking, and deservedly so :: One hour from Liberia airport and indeed it is Toes in Sand with Drink in Hand, awaiting that glorious, awe inducing sunset ::"

  • Awesome Punta Dakota

"This is a beautiful, well maintained luxury villa with an awesome infinity pool. The concierge services were wonderful. The ocean is less than 1/2 mile away and the surroundings are breathtaking. Definitely want to visit again!"

  • Will return

"The house is as advertised. Right on the beach. Clean, user friendly, lots of modern conveniences. We LOVED the howler monkey family that live on the property. Being able to walk the beach to town, restaurants, shops if we wanted and not having to walk the street was fabulous, but walking the street wasn't bad either, just not as beautiful and quiet. The 1 walk each way, every morning was a fantastic way to start your day. The weather was great, the water extremely warm and everyone very friendly and helpful. We wanted to see the sunset off the ocean and not the "bay" so walked to the far west side either at low tide or over the top of the hill. Real easy and way worth the walk. Fun condos, hotels and house on this side. What probably was the best was the overall best location of this house. Never crowded, wonderful to learn to surf and only a 40 minute ride from the airport. I would caution any one coming at Christmas. The crowds were so interesting to mingle with because every nationality was represented but the outdoor disco music that played between Christmas and New Years was some times difficult to handle when it went from 9 AM to 2 AM LOUD, like it was right next door but really was in town. Water carries sound :( In the beginning we thought the howler monkeys were loud but..... It didn't hamper our stay but would have liked it better at night to hear the waves and not the banging of the music. We will go back and will try to stay in this house again. You can be right on the beach (rarity), take a 30 second water taxi ride over to playa grande to see the turtles, 15 minutes to Ziplining with Monkey Jungle, see sunsets without leaving your area, go out to what ever kind of food you can imagine within a 10 minute walk and even walk to the Automarket grocery, if you don't mind a little further walk, or 5 minutes to the little market/store. We were able to drink the water 1/2 way through our stay without issues, we cooked most days and nights and had a great time. Places great to eat Shrimp Hole by 2001 grocery El Blula- Italian , great Pizza Falafal - great greek salad Wicked Jack area where they rent surf boards Nugi's for happy hour We NEVER got in a car or taxi after we were dropped off day one, except to Zipline"
