  • Fun in the Sun (and Surf!) and Away from the Madding Crowd

"This sweet little retreat provided a delightful base for our group of old surf buddies to R&R and socialize poolside after riding super fun, consistent and uncrowded(!) waves out front. Set on a small hilltop overlooking the Pacific, the house is well-situated and private. The surrounding jungle delighted us with beautiful flowers, dancing butterflies, illusive iguanas, and vine-swinging howler monkeys. The home provided all the basic amenities (cooking utensils, refrigeration, fans, air conditioning, games, etc.) that we needed when we were not surfing. And Ostional Beach out front provided all the waves we could ride and a nice black sand shoreline to explore for shells and the famous sea turtles that seek refuge there. While we cooked most of our meals, there are a few worthwhile restaurants and a small market within walking distance . Meanwhile, the magnet tourist town of Nosara is only a 20 minute drive away if you seek a change of scene and wider variety of restaurants, shops, markets, and people-watching."

  • Charming little place!

"My husband and I stayed for 2 weeks in June and were so pleased with this little gem in Playa Hermosa. It comes fully stocked with everything, just pick up groceries on the way in and you're all set. It was such a pleasure to meet Nan & Paul (owners). They were so helpful with everything possible (knowledge of the area, rides to town, places to eat, etc.) They were even gracious enough to invite us up to a sunset dinner with them above town which was breathtaking! Located a short 5 min walk to the beach, 15 min walk to a great pizza place and places to enjoy cocktails. So look forward to returning again."

  • Perfection!!

"I hate to review Casa Pastor since it is a gem that we want to keep to ourselves. From the moment we arrived, we thought we were in paradise. The house is beautiful, the layout was open and airy and allowed us to enjoy the beautiful view. We had two college age kids and on one or two days, they were content to just hang at Casa Pastor. We loved it's location up the hill and the secluded woods behind it. We loved the monkeys, birds and lizards. Additionally, both the gardener and housekeeper were gracious and helpful. Samara is, of course, wonderful as well. This is not for people who want an American resort...it is more genuine than that! Enjoy!"

  • Great location; great owners

"We chose this VRBO for the location. It did not disappoint. We stayed for 5 nights with our 7 & 9 year old boys. It is approximately 2 minute walk down a moderately steep hill to the beach (but that is what gives you a view from the porch). The sand was soft black sand (not dirty, nor hot). The beach was very private and the tide very calm. My 9 year old snorkeled w/o a life vest (although he is a good swimmer). Were able to see quite a few fish...not the best snorkeling in the world, but that is not what CR is known for, nonetheless, the snorkeling was as good as I expected it to be in CR. The home was clean and comfortable. The A/C worked well. Monkeys came to the tree near our porch. We had no trouble with using the local phone or binoculars left in the safe. Having access to the washing machine was great. Closest swimming pool is across the street (smaller one, but good for kids)---there are others that you have access to. Larger, nicer pool at entrance to the condo complex (part of Club at Coco) and kids really liked this pool. We went to this pool (could walk here) every day and always had the pool to ourselves and could smell the wonderful foods at Father Roosters (which is just in front). Also saw birds and monkeys while at this pool. We enjoyed Father Roosters, which was walk-able. Food was good for both adults and kids. 20 minute drive to Diamante to go to an Adventure Park (we rode ATVs and Zip Lined). Less than 10 minute drive to Coco where you can go to grocery store (prices not far off from USA) and more restaurants. The owners were very responsive to any questions I had before I arrived and after I got there. I felt very safe here at day and night. I would recommend having a car, but it is not necessary, just depends on what your agenda is. You can easily get a cab to go to Coco (go to restaurant, grocery). But if you want to do day trips, a car would be easiest, we drove a good part of the country before coming here and did not feel at all intimidated by the driving in this country. For the price, this location was great and I would recommend it to others."
