  • Paradise in Playa Grande

"We just returned from Casa de Vre ... it was so hard to leave! The house was amazing and the views were incredible. We literally rolled out of bed and onto the beach each morning. The surfers among us enjoyed perfect waves for hours at a time right out front while the kids went for long walks, chased crabs, and played in the surf. The pool was perfect for an afternoon respite and the outdoor showers were an unexpected bonus. Morning coffee in the hammocks and evening "sundowners" on the beach are a must. The staff were outstanding: Don David made us feel safe at night; Randy brought us fresh coconuts; and Zulma made us the most delicious lunch. Everyone at Frijoles surf shop (walking distance from the house) was really friendly and helpful. Stop by Cafe Mar Azul for delicious food and the coldest beers in Playa Grande. A great time was had by all ... we can't wait to go back!"

  • Loved the condo.

"This condo was perfect for us! There were four of us, my husband and two grown kids (18 and 21). Although we did not spend much time in the condo, there was plenty of room and privacy. Having a washer/dryer is a dream, we could have packed way less than we did. The kitchen is wonderful, very clean, and while we did not cook we had coffee and breakfast items, which saved a little hassle and money. We booked a couple of trips through the hotel (zip lining and river cruise). Definitely take a look at the guest book, you will get lots of ideas where to go. Our favorites were Green Papaya, Dragonfly and Seasons. We took a trip to Playa Avellana and ate at Lola's -- great food there, and beautiful beach. Make sure you check hours and payment before going to some places -- Lola's was not open for dinner, Season's doesn't take credit cards, Green Papaya is closed on Mondays. As someone said the WIFI isn't too strong but it is available and you don't really want to be online too much. We saw lots of monkeys on the property and off, and parrots in the early morning (off the property). Neil (the owner) and Katia (from the property management company) were very helpful and responsive."

  • Absolutely Perfect!

"Absolutely Perfect! ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My two daughters and significant other stayed in the villa to celebrate my 60th birthday. The villa is spectacular from the view to the furnishings both inside and out to the layout and to the location. It was nice my daughters each had their own bedroom with very comfortable beds. We enjoyed the master suite with the attached bathroom. The half bath was also very nice to have. The little gardening sink area with the clothes lines were nice to dry towels. It was also nice to have a washer and dryer available. We so enjoyed eating outside at night under the stars after grilling dinner. There were so many comfortable sitting spaces outside both on the lower level and the upper deck. The garden area surrounding the lower patio was beautiful as was the view. The inside furnishings are very comfortable and the villa is supplied with everything you could possibly want. The rental process was smooth and seamless. We did early morning (6 AM) walks everyday walking up and down alot of hills. It is quite a sweaty walk up the hills from the lower pool and Picante, but not too bad early in the morning. Great views walking up even higher from the villa. The howler monkeys entertained us every morning and every evening at the upper pool which is a few villas down from this one. The Bahia Pez Vela map does not show this infinity pool, but we used it more than the lower one. Most of the time we were the only ones in it except for late afternoon when a few others would join us. We had a car which I would recommend so you can go to Father Rooster's and in to Playas del Coco. I would highly recommend this villa! Thank you Emily so much for allowing us to rent your villa!"

  • This IS the place to stay!

"We stayed a week March '16. It is hotter than the hubs of he-double-hockey-sticks, so be prepared! The property has security, very well manicured grounds, is small and quaint, off the beaten path, literally a few steps from the pool, and 1 minute walk through the locked gate to the ocean! The accommodations are great - private laundry rm - soap included, 2 single beds in one bedroom, a queen bed in the master with a master bath. Living room, dining and kitchen are spacious and have all that you need. 2nd bath off the living space that the teenagers used. Lots of towels! Kitchen is well stocked - dish soap included. There is a charcoal grill on the patio, but charcoal is more expensive than at home (Minnesota) and the fluid is a gel that is barely sufficient. The only thing I would improve on the property is the outside chairs as they have probably seen their better days, but were still functional for coffee in the a.m. and wine in the p.m. while listening to the ocean. You will see iguanas and geckos on property, as well as some birds. This property is off the beaten path, but still very close to town - 3 min drive. Be sure to hit the farmers market right down the road from the property on Saturday a.m. - pineapple is to die for! Beach walks are a must - go during low tide to check out the tide pools. If you have a car, go to the town of Guatil to check out the hand made pottery (the office can direct you) - 1st house on the left in town is Edwin - he is fantastic! He will give you a full tour and explanation of their pottery making process that has been handed down over generations. He took us to the backyard and there were iguanas in his mango tree as well as a Howler monkey! Awesome! Ask questions! Be sure to check out Tamarindo Beach, the boat tour in the Nat'l Park is worth it - monkeys eating from our hands and on our heads! This is a very popular area for surfing. The roads suck, period. Rent an SUV for sure. Don't eat at the Bocas restaurant - overpriced for what you get. Cooking in the villa saved us a ton of money, but groceries are not as cheap there as they are here. We went to 3 different grocery stores - all were comparable, but be prepared, they aren't like at home! We did have a couple maintenance issues in our villa - staff was prompt in repairing those items. CR is experiencing a major drought, we ran out of water, they bought 10,000 gallons, pump went out, hand repaired, up and running again. Would stay again!"
