  • Perfect location for a family beach vacation!!!

"The property was exactly as advertised and exceeded some of my expectations. The location can't be beat. Just off the main road into town. Far enough removed from everything to be quiet but within very easy walking distance of the beach, bars, shops, and restaurants. The upstairs apartment had an open floor plan that was great for a vacation. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with everything you could need. The balcony was awesome! Dana and French Fry were great hosts. I will definitely be their guest again. Hopefully sooner rather than later."

  • Pictures simply don't do it justice!

"From the moment we contacted Jim about Mariposa, the entire experience was beyond what we expected. He provided us with tons of information about the home and surrounding areas and even arranged transport from the airport. The drive from the airport (Liberia) was beautiful and an adventure in itself as a few of the roads were a bit treacherous (but never scary). A few bumps on a dirt road are well worth the breathtaking view of Punta Islita from the house. Absolutely breathtaking - that's all I can say! We enjoyed time relaxing in the beautiful pool while watching the macaws fly by, and we were blown away by the phenomenal service of the staff at Punta Islita. Everyone was so incredibly kind and accommodating. We waited too long to book a golf cart, but my family is pretty adventurous and enjoyed the challenging walk. I would definitely suggest booking a golf cart early if you are not fond of a steep climb on a paved road. Thank you for everything Jim! It was a 40th birthday surprise that my husband will treasure forever!"

  • Beautiful. peaceful, and hospitable place

"Just back from our wonderful stay in this property. The house and the grounds are beautifully maintained. It is very peaceful and serene, just what we were wanting. The only disadvantage is getting there. The drive from Liberia is a little over 2 hour drive. There was a mixup with the rental car place but finally we were able to get a large enough vehicle for our family (7) and luggage. Then we discovered a flat tire on this vehicle the next morning. Thankfully, we decided to get the extra insurance so it was all covered. A new vehicle was brought to us from San Jose. This extra insurance was a surprise because I had planned on not getting extra insurance because my credit card company had told me we were covered while there. I advise everyone to get the full coverage. We were told that it is required by the government and different levels are available at various charges. We decided on the full coverage and glad we did. Anna, the housekeeper and cook, and Freddy, her husband who does maintenance/landscape, were very hospitable and went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. On the next to last day my son was swept off the rocks while fishing on the beach by a high tide coming in with the full moon that afternoon (Anna had warned him not to go and fish there, but male testosterone took over and he went). He came back bruised and bleeding but thankfully, he was not washed out to sea. He lost the car key when he was knocked off the rocks so we had to call again for another set of keys (again glad we had full coverage so it was included). Rental company brought a new car so all was well. So the lesson is LISTEN TO ANNA AND FREDDY! They know the area and the hazards. The view from the house is beyond words in it's beauty. We loved swimming in the beautiful infinity pool and gazing at the ocean. We enjoyed the beautiful birds and their singing, the beautiful flowers and plants, and one day the monkeys came up close to entertain us which was fun! One afternoon we saw whales in the distance and so glad we had taken out binoculars. Anna's cooking is wonderful! Her barbecue chicken, rice, beans, and the pasta she makes were our favorites. She helped us find the stores and places we needed to go to. And she was caring and patient with us, especially when my son was injured. We appreciated her so much! A good time and memory for our family."

  • Hate to write this review

"So, you're probably wondering what went wrong to "hate" to write this review". Absolutely nothing. Rancho Ramar is a wonderful home that's actually better than what the pictures show or what the owners description depicts. The home is located right on the beach in the Costa De Oro section of Coyote. Step out of the rear door and your swimming in the beautiful pool. A few more steps your under the palm trees and about 50 or so feet later, your in the sand and a few more steps into the water. The beach is clean, long and pretty much what I think a beach should look like. Ask Pilo the caretaker, who lives with his wife in the front casita to put up the hammocks under the palm trees right at the edge of the beach, and it's heaven. As for Pilo and his wife Noylin, they live in the front Casita. Anything that needed a quick fix or help with, they were very helpful in taking care of. Pilo kept the pool and grounds clean and while we speak only a little Spanish and they only a little English, it wasn't much of a barrier. Inside, the home is beautiful. Full kitchen with just about anything you could need, AC in each room, and a great layout. Bedrooms and bathrooms, first rate. And a great outdoor Rancho. The location is remote. We knew that going in as we have previously visited the area. It's not for everyone. Anyone looking for night life or to be catered to, is missing the boat on why to come down to the Coyote area. It's a lack of those amenities that adds to the charm of Playa Coyote, Playa San Miguel and Costa de Oro. (all three beach areas that pretty much make up San Francisco De Coyote). The beaches are wonderfully uncrowded (meaning you might see 3-4 others within a mile in either direction), the local town of San Francisco De Coyote is a true Tico town with a few Expats scattered about and very few "tourists". There are limited, but enough small Tico restaurants and a couple of "higher end" restaurants, that will satisfy most people, each with their own distinctive charm and great food. Jose, the property owner was great to "do business with" as well. Communication was excellent! So why do I hate to write this review? Why would I want to share this info and find more people coming down to this special place in Costa Rica? I'd rather it stay just the way it is. For those looking to really get away from it all, but have it all, this place is for you and Rancho Ramar is great place to hang your hat for a week or more!"
