  • vacation of a lifetime, comfort and wilderness in one package

"Our family of 4, traveling with 2 boys age 10 and 14, from Chicago, USA, first time in Costa Rica. Even though we are seasoned travelers, we like comforts of civilization, and kids like their WiFi and swimming pool, and sleeping with AC. The apartment is everything we wished for. Its very large, clean and modern, uncluttered but cozy, well stacked with good quality linens and other necessities. . The view is unrivaled - this is the only high rise (of a whooping 3 stories building) in Samara, and the entire coast at your feet once you are up for breakfast. Unforgettable sunsets there too, from all windows. Comfortable well stacked kitchen. Very comfortable couches, and sitting at night with windows open listening to the ocean is heavenly. Everything works. Beds are very comfortable, showers are nice and hot, parking huge and secure. There is tons of beach supplies, which we used all the time. It is an easy walk to town and beach (10 min max) but we drove due to my prior foot injury. Its about 2-4 min drive and ample parking everywhere, even during Christmas day. (If you are there for it, we recommend making reservation at Gusto's around 5:30 to watch sunset on the beach and have a fantastic dinner. But this and 24th would be the only days reservations are needed) ) We used Donde Javi Tours (506 8533-5215) and had an unforgettable river kayaking and turtle hatching trips with a small local company working only with our family for the same price as large tours. Wingnut zipline trip was another hit with boys, as well as trip to Carillo beach. What made this stay especially pleasant is care and attention of Nick Jonsson, apartment manager. He provided us with very detailed instructions in advance, checked upon us when we drove, met us at the apartment, gave us all the locals recommendations, shortcuts, tips for everything regarding food, tours, and everything else. Nick checked up with us through our stay as well. He was a perfect manager, attentive but non intrusive, always responsive and present when needed, organized and relaxed at the same time. We used all his recommendations and lived in paradise for 5 days. We got so relaxed that we forgot all 4 our winter coats and left to Arenal without it, and Nick went at length to organize its delivery to the airport with some local bus. We are already planing to come back next Christmas for a longer time. Thank you, Chris and Nick! We loved your place!"

  • Pura vida!

"Five members of my family also stayed at this house on November the 19th through the 23rd. We decided to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn for a few nights in hopes of getting out of Liberia before Hurricane Otto came through. The grounds are beautiful. The pool is amazing. Its a very short walk to Samara beach and Carillo beach. Its like having 2 beaches all to yourself! You can focus on the beauty instead of the crowds :-) The house does have some wear and tear but it is beautiful and met all of our needs. The beds are comfy, plenty of supplies in the kitchen, regular size washer and dryer, huge deck area with lots of chairs next to the pool. There is a small Inn and restaurant a few doors down toward Samara beach. They have really good food and cold beverages. Melissa, at Samara Rentals, was very sweet and took care of our needs when called. Paul, the owner, is also very nice and prompt. Thanks for an awesome trip to Samara. We would love to come back to that little piece of heaven in Samara in the future. Pura Vida!"

  • So Relaxing

"We love Samara, and loved this place. It is a little bit outside of town, which we weren't sure about, but we ended up really liking the location. The drive back to town and the Samara beach is about 10 minutes, and about the same to Playa Carillo. It's extremely private, with only this home on the property. The home is a great layout, with the bedrooms all along one side, opening to the patio and pool, and the kitchen and living area also open to the patio. The house is not brand new, and doesn't have high end appliances, etc., but is very classic Tico and charming. We had 3 families staying together and the space was perfect for us. The patio has views of the ocean and beach, as well as the surrounding woods on the peninsula. There were lots of animals on the property which we enjoyed. We saw monkeys a couple of times, as well as lots of iguanas, some bats, an owl, and many different species of birds. The caretakers were very friendly and helpful, and responded quickly whenever we called them. We loved this place -- it is the real unspoiled Costa Rica, and we will definitely stay here again!"

"Estate Mar Azul met and exceeded our expectations. The swimming pool was a hit for the entire family. The views are amazing and the house is absolutely stunning!! Access to private beaches are a breeze as well as Samara for adventure days. Johnny and Theresa went above and beyond to make sure our stay was 5 star. The hospitality is second to none and we will most certainly be going back!!! I highly recommend Mar Azul. You will definitely not be disappointed."
