  • Paradise in Playa Langosta

"From the moment we arrived for our family Christmas holiday, we knew we had been very fortunate in picking the place to stay. Everything at Horizontes del Mar was first class. The security guards were great, the pool was great, the view was fantastic. The owners couldn't have been more accommodating and were great about answering questions before our trip. And the SUNSETS--well we didn't have to go any further than the balcony. Playa Langosta is just outside Tamarindo and so it is away from all the crowds but close enough to get to town. A nearby grocery store and Pizza restaurant (rated at the time as #3 in Tamarindo for good reason) were added bonuses. The balcony off the master bedroom upstairs was the perfect place for morning coffee. We were also impressed with all the supplies you needed to cook at home. If we are fortunate to return some day, we won't look any further than this property."

  • Perfect Family Vacation Condo

"This place came as advertised and more. The place was exceptionally clean, very spacious, had all of the things you would ever need, and was the perfect place for our family of four. The gardener kept the place looking great and the pool was a good size. It was also quite private as often we were the only ones using the pool. The beach is about 2 minutes away; although you can't really swim in the ocean right in front of the condo you can walk about 5 minutes south along the beach and find a nice swimming area. The outdoor balcony is huge and is great for relaxing and getting some cover from the sun if you wish, while still being outside. The host was very responsive and provides lots of information to aid in your stay. The condo is about a 15 minute walk to Tamarindo which offered a great getaway from the busyness while still be close enough to the action. We would definitely go back to this place again."

  • House was Great: Location/View...Neighbor with vicious, barking German Shepards was awful!

"We had a large group and were very comfortable at Casa Miramar. The house is very large and there was plenty of room for all of us to spread out. The view from the balcony is breathtaking and the highlight of the house. It was nice to jump in the pool during the day and soak in the Jacuzzi at night. We walked to the beach and local restaurants on several occasions and the hike back up to the house was good exercise! We rented a 4-wheel drive SUV, highly recommended for any of the Costa Rican unpaved roads! We made good use of it and drove to lots of the nearby beaches. Donald was great and cleaned the pool and balcony area daily. Marta made the beds and swept, but did not empty the trash in any of the bathrooms or kitchen. We also had trouble getting the appropriate number of bath towels for our party and had to share the first few days. We started out with only one spoon and after mentioning this to the rental staff, Marta brought up a handful the next day. The house could use more glasses and coffee cups. Also, we were told toilet tissue and paper towels were included, but we never got paper towels and were limited to 2 rolls of TP per bathroom for our 10-day stay. I would suggest charging $100 more per week and let people have as much TP & PT as they need! The staff at Special Places was very helpful answering emails and arranging excursions prior to our arrival. However, they seemed a bit disorganized after our arrival asking all in our party to come into the office to sign credit card receipts for our excursions despite us submitting a credit card authorization form prior to our arrival. They never mentioned we would have to come into the office and do this and it was a bit irritating since we wanted to start our vacation! The neighbor next door with the dogs was awful. She encouraged the dogs to bark at anyone walking by and the dogs barked at all hours of the day and night disturbing our sleep. The car gate at the bottom of the driveway needed repairing one day and the neighbor left the dogs outside to bark at the repairmen for hours. If you could get rid of the neighbor and her dogs, the house is ideal!"

  • Wonderful family vacation

"Our family of six stayed in Casa Blanca for four nights. The other reviews of the home were very accurate. The home is older, but well maintained. The location is ideal. Over the years we have been to many beaches and Playa Grande is our new favorite. The sand is fantastic, the waves are ideal for beginner surfers, and during our visit their was very few people on the beach. The best part of it all is that this amazing beach is right outside the back of the house. When we arrived at the house we were greeted by the house's caretaker, Marta. Her English is not the best, but she was still able to explain things to us. The next morning her son, Marcos, stopped by and spoke with us. His English is excellent. He and his girlfriend Marianna operate a surf/tour shop. We rented some surf boards and boogie boards from them and our 10 year old son had a private surf lesson with Marcos. It all was fantastic. Our last night at the house Marta prepared a traditional Costa Rican dinner for us. We invited her, Marcos, and Marianna to join us for dinner. The food was great and the dinner conversation was delightful. Since returning from casa blanca we have shared our stories and pictures with many friends. It is a great place to stay. It is not a 5 star hotel, but it is a very well maintained, older home in an amazing location."
