  • Perfect week

"A terrific week at Casa Velas. We were 3 families--7 adults, 4 kids under 12 and the house met all our needs. Having the pool and beach so accessible meant the kids were always entertained and the spaciousness of the property met the adults could relax and even work in privacy. Having the 5 bedrooms air conditioned was a godsend in a very hot week. The gentle sloping beach meant the kids could play in the water while the adults surfed. Ana the cook and housekeeper cooked us 2 great meals and kept the house free of sand. When we cooked we realized the cookware-- especially the skillets and frying pans need updating. Not having a car was not a problem. We often took the 15 minute walk to the estuary and took the boat ($1 per person) to Tamarindo. Don't try swimming it---one day we saw the 10 foot crocodile. When we made reservations at Seven for their Friday night barbecue ($10) they sent a pickup truck to pick all of us up and return us afterwards. Mariana of "You Are Costa Rica" provided us with transportation, tours, surfing lessons and even some supplies (a case of beer) as well as advice. We were also fortunate to be there when the mangoes on the property were ripe and when the Howler monkeys came to eat. A great week and we all hope to return."

  • Great Christmas family getaway

"Our family stayed December 2016. 7 adults--2 couples, 3 singles. The 4 bedrooms worked fine. The one that has no privacy and that you have to walk through to get to the bathroom is a little weird. It was also odd that that bathroom didn't have a ceiling (which means not completely private) but there was another bathroom so that was ok. The beach is great. You can wade out a long way and still touch so it felt very safe. We did not sit on the beach. There were ants that sometimes felt like they were biting my feet if I was still but it wasn't that big of a deal. Some of us had irritation from something in the water but was only stung for an hour or less and then went away. There is a shower in the backyard just inside the gate that was very convenient to wash off before going in the house or pool. Many people walked the beach (but it was not crowded at all) and everyone was friendly. There is a dramatic difference between high and low tide. You can't walk as far during high tide. There is an inlet or estuary each way that you can not cross when the water is high. The pool area is great. The cabana and row of bushes provide shade and privacy. The balcony is lovely and shaded all day long with a great view. Jorge, the house manager, lives on the first floor of the house and he took good care of us -- got our groceries, shuttled us to and from the airport, and drove us to and from the Beach House restaurant (he had an emergency at another place he manages so we waited a long time and we could have had better communication regarding that though). We went jet skiing and snorkeling with his son Joshua which was very fun. We rented boogie boards and kayaks from the place down the beach. It would have been nice to have had some beach "toys" available at the house. We walked to Perla's restaurant (10 minutes). I walked the beach to the Beach House one morning (27 minutes). I walked to the restaurant to the right down the beach (12 minutes) but we didn't eat there. There is a convenience store that is a 10 minute walk. The groceries and restaurants were more expensive than we anticipated. The 7 of us had lunch at the restaurant at the airport (no one ordered alcohol) and it cost $175! 6 of us ate at Perla's with 3 drinks and it was $100. We spent around $350 on groceries which did include alcohol. Overall, we were very satisfied. Casa Surfside was reasonably priced for all ALL that we got -- togetherness, beach, pool, and fabulous view."

  • Amazing Spot

"This was by far one of the coolest, best located, and well laid out properties we saw while in Costa Rica. Villa Martita was a fantastic place for a group of people that are looking to have a fun, energetic time but also gives the privacy for couples, parents or kids. I can't say enough good things about Luis, night security, what a stand up guy he was and a pleasure to talk with. Santos and Angelica were fantastic as well. They kept the place spotless even with a bunch of wedding bound individuals looking to have a fun vacation. The animal presence was much more than expected and made the lounge time very interesting. Monkeys, lizards, birds, crabs, the list goes on. The location of the house couldn't be in a better spot, high on a hillside overlooking the private beach (which you can use) and the pacific ocean. The feel of the home was perfect. We really appreciated the more natural look and finish to the house, rather than a pristine condition home. It gives you more of a local feel to it, which was perfect. People in the area were extremely nice and helpful. Coco-loco is a 3 minute walk down the street, which is also a plus. I would highly recommend this property to those looking for a place to let loose a bit, stay safe and be around nature. We will definitely be back in the future."

  • Threes a charm!

"This was our third trip to Casa de la Playa, and definatly one of the best. We had great weather and perfect wave conditions. The last few days we had some Guanacaste winds which kept the winds blowing for perfect offshore waves for surfing and also kept the crowds down, along with keeping the temps a little cooler. We also checked out Rosies second location which is new and excellent. Try the homemade cucumber salsa. It's great on eggs and on their fish sandwich thats one of the best we've ever had. We also had dinner at Pacifica Azul which is now located at The Gilded Iguana. That was also great ,we actually wish we'd hit there earlier in the trip because of how much fun we had there. But of course we also frequented Il Pepperoni the most. It's right around the corner from the house and it's our favorite, we love it there! El Chivo (which is also right down the road) had a super bowl party and they did a great job. They set up multiple tv's and the place was packed with lots of ex pat's and visiting tourists, almost forgot I was in another country, if it wasn't for the open air restaurant and palm trees. Almost everyday we went to the pool which is beautiful. We would read and swim, it was perfect especially after a surf session. We really enjoyed our stay at this house. It's really set up perfectly for 2 couples and extra family. The water shortage that was occurring while we were there, was really no big deal. We were made aware of it when we arrived and we prepared for it. We had extra water bottles/jugs and filled them every day and did the dishes in the am. when the water was back on. So as I said it was really no big deal we dealt with it and everyone on the trip had a great time. We all look forward to coming back next year and agreed it was probably our most fun and relaxing trip to Nosara yet. Can't wait to come back for an even longer stay, Pura Vida, we love it there!"
