  • Family with young kids

"Two families met at this house with 2 toddlers and a baby. House is just as pictured. Very clean. Has all the appliances/amenities one would need. However it does NOT come with AC throughout (only in the bedrooms) which is fine but just different from what the website says. Also does have a washing machine but NOT a dryer (although there are clothes lines outside). Pool is lovely, kept clean daily by groundskeeper who lives right next door. This guy is also available for any other concerns or questions, although we had none. Property manager, Randy, was friendly and met us at the house upon arrival. Seems like a good guy. We were concerned about having to pay with cash only (does not take credit cards except for deposit) but it was all legit. Property is located directly on the beach and along a strip of homes. Next door neighbors are visible from yard but with landscape still have a fair amount of privacy. It was perfect for us: we like our privacy but also good to not be too secluded when in a foreign country. We felt very safe in this area. Locks on house are appropriate. Beach is clean and no rocks, but unfortunately is a little steep and also small during high tide, so not a great beach for kids to play on. Beach not too crowded. Good for sitting to watch the sunset, taking walks and playing in the water. Water was clean (no seaweed) and fairly warm, but was not the crystal blue waters like we've seen on other beaches (not sure if that's due to location or timing). Grassy part of yard in January was completely burnt yellow and dry, unlike the nice green lush grass seen in the pics, so again not great for kids to play on. No crib available but we made do making bumpers around a bed for the baby. Huge roosters were in our yard each morning and a family of monkeys came to visit us one afternoon-- fun for the kids!"

  • Sweet

"We stayed there 4 nights. The kitchen was a big plus. Completely stocked with everything you might need. Full size fridge and gas range. You really save some money cooking in. VERY clean, and simple. AC in the main bedroom, and hot shower was a plus. We loved the hammock outside, though we wished it were a double. Property felt very safe. The walk to the beach was short. Gabriel and Richard were fantastic, if we needed something they would always help. I had a cough and Gabriel showed up with a lime, and honey, that honey from their bees was awesome. All said, we will be back."

  • You can't get a better view!

"We had a wonderful time here, and the view is unbeatable. Not to mention the nice pool as well. We saw white faced Capuchin monkeys right off the covered patio, and we saw and heard howlers all throughout our stay. For a great place to eat head a little further down the road to the Carao project, great flavor at an affordable price. The beach is just minutes away."

  • Christmas Getaway (2nd visit to Casa Kalumina)

"Second time here at this wonderful house. Previously visited in January 2010 and like the area so much, came back for Christmas 2016. Shawna & Jorge both were very helpful and made every effort to make is feel at home (as did Alyssa did in 2010). Beach is very close and the corner store around the corner is now a Wilmart grocery. The home is perfectly suited for large families. While there we did a sunset sail out of Playa Flamingo and some of the party went on a canopy tour. Mostly we just enjoyed the beach and the head high waves that we just love in the area. We especially love the outdoor kitchen and entertaining space it offers. We had other family staying also in Palm Beach Estates which was convenient for all to visit. We ate Christmas dinner at the Hotel Bula Bula and several other times visited Hotel Cantarana for their Tapas Thursday and breakfast. Prices there were very reasonable and food excellent. This area has so very much to offer everyone from adventure to just relaxing. Highly recommend this house for groups of 8 or more."
