  • Perfect Adventure

"The place is gorgeous! Exactly like the photos. The entrance is grand and the house is huge!! It was so comfortable. I'm going to break this review down into as many sub-sections as I can so that reviewers can have an overall perspective of the property. I stayed for a week with 8 other adults. All 5 bedrooms were utilized. There are 4 in the main home, and 1 little casita (think guest house) behind the home on the property. PROS: The grandeur and the beauty was a huge plus for our group. Location was great close to beaches, on a golf course, centrally located to other towns. HOWEVER, rent a car or golf carts - depending on what you plan to do on vacation. The compund/reserve that the golf course is located on is huge, so going to the beach house, etc can be a long walk. Going off the reserve is not possible without a car. The home is in Tamrindo beach but closer to Playa Avellana, which is gorgeous and known for its surfs! Another bonus pro, the house is technically not handicap accessible; however, my friend who has limited mobility and uses a wheel chair was able to stay in one of the bedrooms on the lower level of the home, with entrance through the garage with no problems. He was able to comfortable get around the interior and exterior of the home in his chair. Royce was so easy to work with! Totally accommodating and very responsive to any questions or needs we had! CONS: It is a Caribbean location be prepared for things outside of your control, like random losses of water or power. (We can be so spoiled with life's luxuries) The home advertises as coming with house keeping everyday, but be flexible in your interpretation of that. Remember, you're in a villa, a private home, not a hotel! Keeping that theme in mind, pack all toiletries and other necessities you may need. The home had very limited selection of seasonings and condiments for food. We had to buy everything, food in Costa Rica is not cheap. But with these as the only cons, I'll take it! Already planning a return trip :)"

  • Great destination and rental option!

"The condo worked out very well for our family - plenty of room for my husband and I and our 2 teenage daughters. Staff helpful and accommodating. They could set up transfers to/from airport, activities, recommendations for dinner, etc. Our driver stopped at a grocery store on the way from the airport and we stocked up for the week. Tamarindo is a great destination. Lots of restaurants, very casual and friendly, great surf, gorgeous sunsets. Condo is about a 5-10 min walk to the town. We usually walked the beach vs the road. You have access to Longosta Beach Club that is across the street. It is a nice club with pool and cabanas, restaurant and bar, but it is very popular for weddings so at least 4-5 of the days we were there, they were either setting up or tearing down for a wedding, so limited pool and bar access. Another caution is that it is on a gravel road, so we never sat on our patio, it was too dusty. Saying that though, we liked being out of the town and a little more secluded than the option of a condo right in town, further away from the beach."

  • Absolute Heaven

"The stars reflected like little lights in the smooth sheets of water that washed up on the beach in front of the house the evening we arrived. That is when I knew we were in for something special staying at Sand Dollar Cove. We were given exacting instructions on how to get there. The roads were easy to navigate and were in good condition, though the trek is not for the feint of heart. We wanted to get away from it all and enjoy time with family and friends in a setting ripe for adventure and SDC was the perfect fit for us. Our party included four adults and six children, four of whom were teenagers. We spent our days reading in the hammocks (great collection of books at the house - thanks!), sitting on the spacious porch overlooking the beach, boogie boarding, playing in the waves and riding the bike along the beach all the way to the estuary. In San Francisco de Coyote, we discovered a bakery and got to know the local grocer; he made us special drinks & helped us find food for all those teenagers. Pat (the manager) made sure we had all we needed and helped arrange to do a kayak trip through the mangroves. She had great recommendations for restaurants that were a short drive away. Cheo (the caretaker) brought us fresh eggs every morning, made pinto gallo & fresh tortillas for us, fried up fresh fish and made enough arroz con pollo that we actually had leftovers! (no small feat with a house full of teenagers) Cheo's son took the kids fishing one morning and Cheo made a bonfire for us on the beach. The howling monkeys woke us in the morning and we quickly adapted to the local habit of going to bed with the sun. By week's end, we felt like locals and could have stayed forever."
