  • Five nights was not enough!!!

"This is what vacations are supposed to be like. After a superb time hiking around volcanos and kayaking down gorgeous rivers through the rainforest my wife and I spent five glorious nights at Toucan Stay Inn in the Owner's Cabin. It was like having our own little home away from home. The grounds consist of beautiful tropical gardens hiding behind a secure fence and gates, and it's just a very short walk down the road to the beach. The Owner's Cabin is a large one room, combo kitchen, living room, bedroom, with a full bathroom and a large screened porch. There is plenty of hot water. After a great night's sleep in the king size bed (some nights with the A/C, some nights listening to the rain) we'd have coffee, take a long walk on the beach, come back and make breakfast, then grab the beach towels, books, etc. and head back to the beach. We picked up a couple inexpensive low to the ground beach chairs at Walmart in San Jose earlier in out trip and they were perfect for the beach. There are hammocks to use to sling between trees if you prefer. If you want a beer or a cocktail, burger, or pizza, there is a beach bar right there. Better yet wait for one of the local women to come along with hot homemade chicken or veggie empanadas. After a day of total relaxation we'd venture out to one of the many many local restaurants nearby for dinner and then back to our cabin. Night life is available if that's your scene but we prefer our solitude. After seeing many of the other accommodations in the area we could not have been happier with our choice. Mike the grounds manager will soon become a welcome friend and give good advice on local attractions and activities. A couple things we did not know but were not a problem. You have to buy your own drinking/cooking water but there is a little grocery store across the road. $5 for 5 gallons almost got us through our five nights. Also, there is no housekeeping so you can leave your bed unmade just like at home. There is not a house safe but one didn't seem necessary. The wifi worked great, there is no house computer, if you want to ride a bike you'll need to rent one nearby, and breakfast is not included. Some travel sites have not been updated with that current information. Mike informs us we would not have enjoyed his cooking anyway! Oh, the owner Jon, is always reachable by phone and is also a trove of helpful information. Although not entirely necessary since there are taxis, I would recommend a car for greatest convenien"

  • Fantastic Stay!

"Really wonderful and private place tucked up a jungle lane, would stay there again for sure. For the extra $20 per might, take the main house as the casitas are much smaller and don't have the same outlook. Basically located right in the jungle with all kinds of animals rolling through the property. Howler monkeys make their presence know every day, birds, butterflies, and everything else. Lots of restaurants within walking distance, as well as beaches, Punta Uva was our favourite for bobbing in the waves or boogie boarding. Ocean was the best temperature and the water was clean and clear. The hosts were very attentive and they have everything you need for cooking on site, thanks to Erinn and Darren for the great stay!"

  • Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay!

"Thank you so much! The house is beautiful, location has just enough privacy yet close enough to everything you need. The housekeeper, Fred, lives next door and made our trip the best it could be. He knows all the ins and outs of the area, took us on tours that he provides and pointed us in the direction of other attractions and activities we needed. Our week in Costa Rica was a huge success!"

  • Cute bungalow in the forest

"We absolutely love having all the patio doors open and connecting to the breeze and the sound of the ocean waves. Thomas was able to schedule us massages at the house and it was a wonderful experience. House is clean and well equipped with amenities. Bikes were provided with super low rental rate so we can bike to town. What a wonderful way to explore the area and live like a local for a few days!"
