"we arrived at La Patita Manzanillo on March 23rd 2016 and stayed 7 nights and left on March 1.The grounds are set in a very pretty lush setting. The house is very nice with very pretty wood. There are very nice tables that rap around the outside living area with benches that are built around the eating area .The house is real nice but if you you want to just hang out or you get a rainy day, there is really no comfortable place to sit outside of the benches. The beaches are just a minute away. The beach is absolutely beautiful set in a low key setting, and there is tables in the shade in front of the beach. The beach is safe for young ones to play in water and on the beach. You do not need water shoes. . There are some good sodas(local eating places) right across from the beach.Yari the housekeeper is very helpful and very friendly. You will see monkeys and birds on the property, and if you are for more of a party setting, all you need to do is go to Puerto Viejo which is 15-20 minutes down the road. The only reason i don't give the rental a five is it just needs some comfortable chairs to sit in."

  • Lovely house, convenient location

    Abider

"For our family of young and older adults, this was absolutely the most perfect house and location. Restaurants, stores and beaches are within close walking distance. Punta Uva, the town of Puerto Viejo, and attractions like the Jaguar Rescue Center are within easy biking or walking distance (including the restaurant La Pecora Nera). The jungle is all around, but the property is completely secured by fencing and there's a feeling of security as well as privacy. The managers (Mao when we were there) were so helpful, before and during our visit, and always available. The saltwater pool was lovely, and we had it all to ourselves since we rented the entire house. Star-gazing from the lounge chairs by the pool at night was amazing. Every morning we walked along the dirt road through the jungle to the beach to watch the sunrise. We took flashlights to see the leaf-cutter ants doing their thing along the path. Some mornings the howler monkeys would be right up overhead, which was thrilling to hear. There were so many different birds in the area around the house, including toucans. On the beach, where the nearby creek feeds into the ocean, there was a variety of shore birds there every morning. At the house, we spent most of our time at the pool or upstairs in the open kitchen area. It was always comfortable, with a ceiling fan as well as a floor fan and plenty of seating for six, including rockers and a hammock. It was the dry season so we had no problems at all with mosquitoes. The bedrooms were air conditioned, which provided a nice break from the humidity. The bedrooms also had screened windows that could be opened if preferred to a/c. We cooked a lot of our meals and found the kitchen well-equipped. If you rent the entire house there is also an indoor kitchen downstairs, but we didn't use it at all. There's a charcoal grill by the pool that we used one night to grill some fresh fish. Plenty of towels are provided, with extras for the pool. If you rent for an entire week, someone will come mid-week to clean, bring clean towels, and even change the sheets if you want. We loved the house. Away from the crowds of Puerto Viejo, but within biking distance, close to Playa Cocles (with a lifeguard and surfboard rentals), surrounded by nature, but also in the midst of a vibrant community, it was the perfect location for our family--just what we were looking for."

  • Wonderful place to enjoy the natural beauty of the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica!

    Carol T.

"My husband and I were lucky to spend a week at Casa de Earlybirds in late September, which, by the way, is a wonderful time to visit. We had almost no rain and the beaches to ourselves. The layout of the house is great: up on the second floor looking out over the jungle toward the beach. The design is nice, too; lots of wood and interesting items decorate the space. The open living area allows the sights and sounds to be with you always...the roar of ocean waves, beautiful plants and the monkeys and birds. The toucans squabble in the trees in front of the house, so we got some pictures of these fabulous birds. The howler monkeys visited a few times in large family groups. My favorite time of day was early morning with coffee in the protected "outdoor" living room. Once the sun was up, so was I; not wanting to miss anything! (my husband slept in!) The property is within a protected wildlife area, and our wanderings around the neighborhood provided as much nature viewing as any excursion we took! We rented bikes in Puerto Viejo, and rode between the different beaches along the road. We enjoyed swimming at the beach just outside our gate. Favorite restaurants: Cool Calm Cafe in Manzanillo, Selvin in Punta Uva, and Carribean Coffee shop...(the tour of their organic chocolate farm is fantastic). The owners of Casa de Earlybirds are easy to deal with and the caretaker downstairs is helpful. All in all, this was the best week of our 3 week trip to Costa Rica."

  • Home Away From Home

    Danielle

"This has been one of our favourite places to stay in Costa Rica. We stayed for only 7 days, and wish we could have stayed longer. Nothing compares to waking up to the sounds of the jungle. The view is absolutely breathtaking and often accompanied with monkeys and tucans - which is always a pleasure! You are right in the heart of the jungle with the comforts of a 5-star hotel and amazingly close to the beach. There are so many activities to do close by! I left feeling a wonderful sense of calm. I can't wait to come back next year!!"
