  • Everything we hoped for!

"My wife and I had a very difficult time deciding on a place to stay. We looked at hundreds of locations and rentals. Once we decided to book Casa Amabar, we spent the weeks before our holiday looking at the pictures of the house and counting down the days until we arrived. I feared that they house would not live up to the pictures, or that the location would be lame or that the walk to the beach would be to long... Once we arrived, it became apparent that we had made the right decision. Our hosts were organized, and offered a warm welcome. The village was close and the walk to the beach was a beautiful trip through town and down a short trail through the trees. Most importantly, the house was AMAZING! Casa Ambar is certainly one of the nicest houses in the entire area. The setting is very private and the pool was well cared for and vital when it came to keeping my 10 year old happy. Only one thing to keep in mind, the jungle animals party all night! The monkey calls and never ending bird noises are hilarious and they take some time to get used to. Being that the house has screened walls, you feel like you are at one with the jungle. This is obviously not a complaint, it's an awesome feature of the house. Just be ready to adjust to living in the jungle. Rent this house!"

  • Great week with friends

"We spent a week at Villa Noor in mid-January. Our hosts, Cindy and Freddie, were very helpful despite the language barrier. The Villa was well stocked and comfortable. The property felt like our on wildlife reserve where we saw Iguanas, Jesus Christ lizards (those guys that walk on water), toucans, leaf cutter ants, sloths, kinkajou, skinks, blue crabs, butterflies if many sorts including the wonderful blue morpho, moths that look just like leaves, hermit hummingbirds, and howler monkeys! The beach is a short stroll away as is the center of Manzanillo. Manzanillo abuts the Gandaco-Manzanillo refuge where we went for a day long hike with Abel Bustamante. He's a great guide, very lively and knowledgeable and speaks English well. He gave us a lot of tips on spotting wildlife as well as a lot of commentary on life in Costa Rica. With a car, you can access Puerta Viejo (great for surfers- too much congestion for us!) and the mountains easily from Manzanillo though the busses seem to be able to take you everywhere."

  • Lovely vacation paradise!

"You cannot find a better spot in the Puerto Viejo area to stay at than this listing. David was a wonderful property manager and very helpful in the ways of Costa Rican life. This spot was away from the hubbub of the main town, but still within biking distance - and there is a bike shop and lovely pastry shop 2 doors down. I cannot wait to go back and see the monkeys and the sloths hanging in the trees in the backyard."

  • Felt relaxed and safe. Accommodated our very late arrival.

"Janet and Nick are very knowledgeable, and truly want you to enjoy their little piece of paradise. Pedro the gardener is amazing at finding wildlife. Place is clean, with whimsical artistry throughout. Garden is tropical and beautiful. We enjoyed our stay, especially the outdoor style living."
