  • Family Vacation

"My family and I have just returned from an amazing week vacation at Casa Del Mar. The casita and the town of Manzanillo was perfect for my two kids (6yo and 4yo). The beach right across from the casita was perfect for my small kids to swim and snorkel. Because my kids do not love eating out, we cooked most meals in the casita. The kitchen was easy to use and well equipped. Our first full day in Manzanillo, Amanda arranged a walk in the reserve with Tino. He was a great guide especially with my kids. My 4yo spent half the time in the ergo, but still really enjoyed the walk. My 6yo loved the walk. She took pictures of everything Tino pointed out, and loved his extensive, yet kid friendly, explanations of everything . I feel like she got an entire science class in a 4 hour walk. One day we rented kayaks at the local dive shop and paddled into the creek. It was super easy and perfect for kids that did not want to walk. Floating along in the creek we were all able to enjoy the jungle (and lots of snacks:). It was nice we did this after our tour with Tino because we knew what to look for. Another day Amanda arranged for us to go on a dolphin tour with Chun. We saw lots of dolphins and went swimming at Ponto Mono. It was fun to swim on such an isolated beach. Driving tip: it took longer to drive from San Jose then google said it would. It took us 6 1/2 hours each way with all the necessary kids stops. The first half, the road is windy for and has lots of trucks. Definitely do not drive yourself at night. Amanda was amazing our entire trip. She gave us great advice when planning the trip, she organized tours, welcomed (and entertained) my kids and made them feel at home, and gave us local knowledge of the area. Our plans change coming AND going from Casa Del Mar, Amanda accommodated us in both times. I highly recommend the casitas at Casa Del Mar for families."

  • Great house in a great area!

"We loved this house. It had plenty of room - more than we needed for the two of us. The house is separated from the beach only by a gravel road. Beach access was just across that road. There was an outdoor shower in the yard which was nice for washing off the sand. The front porch was a great place to stay out of the sun and still enjoy the sound of the waves. The kitchen was well equipped (no microwave though) and had almost everything we needed (a large bowl for salad would be a good addition). It was nice to have a great non-stick pan for cooking breakfasts. The king sized bed was very comfortable. The mosquito nets were not needed when we were there. I never once saw a mosquito but there were little no-see-ums just at sunset that bothered me a little (but nothing more than a minor annoyance). On our first day the water pump for the hot water quit working and the owners were there immediately to get it fixed. On the second day, I locked myself out. The owner's mother lives next door and she was very kind to let me back in. The house does have a security system. The gates on the yard both lock as well so we felt very secure. You can walk into the town on the beach but it would be 30-45 mins or so. It is a 5 minute drive. There were lots of good restaurants - we really liked Lazlo's Catch of the Day. The gaucamole and ceviche at the Point (just 10 mins walk down the beach) was great. The beach BBQ on Sunday at Hotel Banana Azul (5 mins walk away) was also great. We highly recommend this property."

  • Our 7-day family vacation at Casa Jessica

"Our family group of six spent the week after Christmas at Casa Jessica. We were well looked after by the onsite manager David and Luna, the friendly pooch who adopted him some years back. The house is spacious and well-located right next to the treed beachfront. Puerto Vieja was a happening place with the young surfing crowd, and we enjoyed our meals at Banana Azul and at several excellent restaurants in town. We would love to go back, most particularly to renew our friendship with Luna."

  • Beautiful tropical paradise!

"Our stay at Casa Galim was amazing. The house was just the perfect size for my husband and I. It was very quaint and relaxing, and you can't beat the view! The huge porch with hammocks over looking the ocean was awesome! We went to sleep listening to the waves and had our coffee on the porch in the morning. Yosi and Esther were wonderful hosts! They are so friendly and will give you lots of recommendations for your stay in Puerto Viejo. We will be coming back!"
