  • The porch and view were my favorite.

"The sandy beach was a short walk away."

  • Troy's house was exactly what we wanted!

"This house was perfect for us, a couple on vacation. It was clean, everything worked, and the yard was a beautiful! Playa Negra was tiny and nice. It had a lot of tree debris on the beach, so we preferred walking over to Cahuita for the pretty clean sand, but after a long day it was delightfully accessible for dip in the sea. We were very glad to be in Playa Negra rather than Cahuita for starting and ending our days. So quiet and soothing (except for the constant sound of wildlife - which we loved). The house has several guidebooks and a fold-out animal ID guide, which we used daily. Bruno and Brunito (mom and baby) plus Brunhilda (we named him - maybe the dad?) the sloths were mesmerizing, and my husband located a Hairy Mexican Porcupine in the tree, close to eye level! In the evenings we walked into Cahuita to stroll the quiet nightlife, it was the right distance to walk off a delicious dinner. The full sized refrigerator and freezer was super handy to freeze our own ice in a bowl = essential for travel drinks. The kitchen was very well appointed. Our only problem with the house, which I will tell Troy about and he will probably amend, since he seems like that sort of person, is the upstairs bed was very squeaky and loud. We took the mattress off and put it on the floor, there was plenty of room. The mattress itself was very comfortable, we liked it more on the ground because we are very light sleepers. The squeak was from the boards under the bed, not the mattress itself. The stairs to upstairs are very steep, like boat stairs. Overall, I wish I lived there!"

  • Pleasant apartment in a great location.

"Apartment was in a good location. Great shower, air conditioned comfy queen bed. Kitchen was small & a bit basic but adequate. John was a great host, full of enthusiasm for the area and all it has to offer and was very friendly & welcoming. Close to the beach & the jungle with opportunity to experience both the tranquility of the beach and the flora, fauna and wildlife that Costa Rica boasts. Heard Howler monkeys every day & saw humming birds, rhinoceros beetle, capuchin monkeys, assorted ants, spiders, macaws and lots more too! This area is very " back to nature" so don't expect 4/5 star luxury anywhere in bars, restaurants etc. or you will be disappointed. Relax & enjoy the slow paced charm."
