"we arrived at La Patita Manzanillo on March 23rd 2016 and stayed 7 nights and left on March 1.The grounds are set in a very pretty lush setting. The house is very nice with very pretty wood. There are very nice tables that rap around the outside living area with benches that are built around the eating area .The house is real nice but if you you want to just hang out or you get a rainy day, there is really no comfortable place to sit outside of the benches. The beaches are just a minute away. The beach is absolutely beautiful set in a low key setting, and there is tables in the shade in front of the beach. The beach is safe for young ones to play in water and on the beach. You do not need water shoes. . There are some good sodas(local eating places) right across from the beach.Yari the housekeeper is very helpful and very friendly. You will see monkeys and birds on the property, and if you are for more of a party setting, all you need to do is go to Puerto Viejo which is 15-20 minutes down the road. The only reason i don't give the rental a five is it just needs some comfortable chairs to sit in."

  • Relaxing and Peaceful

"The house was very clean and well maintained. The nights were comfortable sleeping under the netting and listening to the rain. It rained most nights during our stay and was sunny most day. The area surrounding the house was very peaceful and private. We enjoyed listening to the abundant wildlife in the rain-forest, howler monkeys and all kinds of birds. After spending the day sightseeing and touring the local area, it was so nice to come back to the spacious house to relax and get ready for the next day's adventure. Stephanie and Johanna were a great help in getting us checked into the house, even though we were a little late arriving due to the holiday traffic. They even helped with arranging a rafting trip on the Pacuare river where we were picked up at a nearby hotel. We rented a 4X4 and had no trouble at all getting up the hill. We loved staying at the Canopy House."

  • Very cute and rustic property

"The property is very nice and the swimmable portion of the beach is within a very short walking distance. The outdoor shower was a blessing and helped us keep sand out of the house. The bed sheets we had the first few nights were "I" and we didn't complain but they were changed after cleaning and replacements were much better for the humid climate (we went during the rainy season). It would also have been nice to have ceiling fans in the "sunroom" so we could've used it as it was too humid and stuffy when we went. As advertised, the place is very rustic and a bit dark because of all the vegetation around it but has its charm and served its purpose well. The owners and Joel were always very responsive and eager to please. They have a great "book" of information about the house and area that's easy to read. The kids really like seeing the little wild pigs and an armadillo that came to visit. We are giving it five stars as the place is exactly how it's advertised and there were no surprises."

  • Fantastic tropical retreat

"We loved our 5 days at this all wood house. It is away, but walkable to the hubbub of Cahuita town and national park, and very private. There are tropical fruit trees and gorgeous flowers all around. We saw more exotic birds among the palms and hibiscus that Doris has planted than we did in the park. The pool is a perfect way to beat the tropical humidity and heat. Doris is a helpful and unobtrusive host. Good restaurants and bars within walking distance in town too. (There is a 4 hour direct bus from San Jose.) Open stairways might not be good for small children."
