  • Terrific Find

"We loved our stay at Sonidos Del Mar! The south end of the beach is less crowded and one block away was perfect. We could hear the waves but the privacy of the house is ideal. The property and house are amazingly beautiful with everything you need. The architectural touches of curved walls, inset handmade tiles and glass, exotic wood, original paintings and the waterfall in the pool were much appreciated. Laurie, the owner was very helpful making our arrangements and giving us suggestions of things to do in the area. Mario (the driver) was accommodating as well and always on time. Jan (the property manager) was fantastic setting up our tours, answering questions, and providing information. Our favorite tour was white water rafting on the Sevegre River. It was a blast complete with white water, swimming, waterfalls, breakfast, snacks and lunch. Sunset at Villa Calentes was spectacular and definitely worth the drive up the hill. Zip lining was a fun adventure and we all tried one platform upside down! My husband went fly-fishing (Jan arranged it with a local fly-fisherman) close to the border of Nicaragua and caught machaca. We hiked Miro Mountain but go very early because it gets so hot. Nice views and artwork along the way along with fascinating graffiti at the abandoned restaurant. We did fine without renting a car. We planned down days staying at the pool and the beach, boogie boarding and swimming when there was no need for a car. We could walk to town for dinner and take a cab back for a few dollars. We used the kitchen and barbeque often and enjoyed sitting outside on the porch for meals under the fans. There were few bugs and docile iguanas and lizards in the tropical gardens surrounding the house. I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Jaco, Costa Rica."

  • The property was well maintained and the management company was impressive.

"I had left my sunglasses at the pool and went back the next evening once I realized it. The security guard at the pool had found them and put them in a safe place and graciously returned them to me."

  • Beautiful Condo with beach AND pool access!

"This was our first trip to Costa Rica and our first experience in Jaco. The condo was stunning and very well kept. We were travelling with 2 couples and the 2 bedrooms and bathrooms gave us lots of privacy. It was on the first floor and so the balcony was literally just steps from both the pool and the beach. It was lovely to have some of our guests sit on the balcony in the shade while others were sitting just across the fence in the sun by the pool but could still have a conversation. The beach is also just outside the door. However, there is a large beach front so you can't see the water from the condo. There was a surfing competition on when we were there so it was fun to just sit and watch. The views and sunsets were absolutely breathtaking! You had to drive a short distance to get into the centre of town, but we found Jaco to be very busy with lots of shops, activities, night life. If that's what you're looking for then this is the place for you!!"

  • Simply Magnificent!

"You won’t fully appreciate the power of this place until you have been here a few days. When you are sitting, at sunset, on the large front balcony watching the view, out across the beautiful pool, through the palms and over the magnificent beach and on to the crashing surf - like us, you will likely just say “wow”. On arrival we noted first that the online pictures really didn’t do the unit justice. Due to the limits of the camera used, the photo’s can’t show the high vaulted ceilings that give the place a very airy and open feeling. The condo is well appointed with just about everything you will need to move in and start your beach lifestyle. Mar Arena is a relatively small complex which is great because it allows you to get to know, if you wish, your neighbors. You will find everyone here friendly and helpful. Mar Arena is located at the South end of Jaco Beach and because of this it has must less foot traffic than the North End. However I need to point our that even though you are at the South End its a short walk (20min) to the center of Jaco and all the clubs, shops and restaurants. Some of the travel books tend to dump on Jaco as a tourist trap and it is. Exactly why we like it. Lots of shops, music and some of the finest restaurants we’ve been in and we travel a lot. Don't miss the farmers market on Fridays, good time to stock up on local produce. Valerie the owner was very responsive to any inquiry we had with usually a same day answer. Her father lives in the area and he to is ready to help if you need any. Few other things - Yes the water is safe to drink on the property and in town. Never had an issue with illness in the two weeks were here. DO be careful and don’t attempt to cross the sand from the edge of the beach to the tide line in the heat of the day without shoes, you will get burned. Trust me running will not help (yes mine are still a bit swollen lol). Don’t miss the Tiki bar at the South end of the beach. Valerie will give you a list of recommended restaurants in town that is spot on. Our favorites, The Green Room and Graffiti. Enjoy!"
