  • Awesome Place - great staff

"Melvin picked us up at the airport and had cold beers waiting for us. The staff met us at the house and were super attentive and kept the place spotless. Catherine and Emlio were great and made us some really good meals- I would highly recommend getting breakfast made every day. Keep in mind that the property is a little off the beaten path and it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get to Jaco by cab. However, the place is so big and the property is so nice we spent a lot of time at the house. The place has Internet and you can plug your phone into the speaker system for music out by the pool. Prepare for an insanely steep driveway when you get there. However upon arrival at the top of the mountain where the house is, the views are breathtaking. I would note that the beach if not necessarily in walking distance but rather a short five minute drive down the hill to Playa Hermosa. Keep in mind that the waves at Playa Hermosa are quite sizable, so if you plan on going surfing and you've never done it before I wouldn't recommend starting out here. I tried to go out there for my second time and didn't last very long. If you are going to get liquor to bring to the place I would suggest getting it at the airport, because the stores in Jaco really didn't have much. There's plenty to do in Jaco. Also, don't bother getting the local currency, everyone will take American dollars if you have them. We took a day and Melvin drove us to Manuel Antonio national Park where we went zip lining and also did a wave Runner tour. That was well worth the trip. Angelo's place was really nice and we plan to go back next year. One last thing for anyone planning to come down here. Don't bother packing any longsleeve shirts or any closed toe shoes. All we needed to go out was shorts and T-shirts and flip-flops. It was at least 90° every day and very hot at night as well. Some of the restaurants in Jaco did not even have air-conditioning. So pack light, you certainly don't need to wear a lot of clothing in Costa Rica!"

  • Ideal location...great people

"Just returned from 12 absolutely wonderful days at this condo. It was a perfect fit for us and we loved how close the beach is (only steps) and the access to the pool is ideal (even less steps). We had family, with several young adults, staying right next door and they were always on the go: goofing around on the beach, boogie boarding, walking to town (short walk or a $2 cab ride), or planning excursions (which can be set up through either Celine, the people at the gatehouse, online or while walking around downtown). When we arrived, Celine met us at the condo with a welcome package including milk, eggs, avocado, mango, beer and wine which was awesome after an exhausting day of travel. Celine was always available to tend to our needs and offer suggestions for activities. Attention to detail or what? Lovely units...very lovely people. Always enjoyed chatting with Celine and Anne Catherine (who just happened to be there...lucky us!) There is NO hustle and bustle at this complex but a casino next door which can provide some of this and Clarita's which is entertaining in itself (Bucket of beer for $10 and too many interesting signs to keep you chuckling). Quite a variety of entertainment (all kinds...stories from the kids) can be found downtown though. We met some great people around the pool where most gathered "sometime during the day" to share stories of their adventures and give ideas for new ones. Walked the beach every morning for sunrise and enjoyed amazing sunsets from the beach or even the patio (yes the patio!) every evening. Photo ops everywhere...iguanas poolside, macaws in the trees, toads on the patio...on and on! Taco Bar was a favourite for the kids, Morales for ribs, great food at the Wishbone...too many options...even cooked at home a few times. Thank you sooo much for everything! We will be back!"

  • Terrific Find

"We loved our stay at Sonidos Del Mar! The south end of the beach is less crowded and one block away was perfect. We could hear the waves but the privacy of the house is ideal. The property and house are amazingly beautiful with everything you need. The architectural touches of curved walls, inset handmade tiles and glass, exotic wood, original paintings and the waterfall in the pool were much appreciated. Laurie, the owner was very helpful making our arrangements and giving us suggestions of things to do in the area. Mario (the driver) was accommodating as well and always on time. Jan (the property manager) was fantastic setting up our tours, answering questions, and providing information. Our favorite tour was white water rafting on the Sevegre River. It was a blast complete with white water, swimming, waterfalls, breakfast, snacks and lunch. Sunset at Villa Calentes was spectacular and definitely worth the drive up the hill. Zip lining was a fun adventure and we all tried one platform upside down! My husband went fly-fishing (Jan arranged it with a local fly-fisherman) close to the border of Nicaragua and caught machaca. We hiked Miro Mountain but go very early because it gets so hot. Nice views and artwork along the way along with fascinating graffiti at the abandoned restaurant. We did fine without renting a car. We planned down days staying at the pool and the beach, boogie boarding and swimming when there was no need for a car. We could walk to town for dinner and take a cab back for a few dollars. We used the kitchen and barbeque often and enjoyed sitting outside on the porch for meals under the fans. There were few bugs and docile iguanas and lizards in the tropical gardens surrounding the house. I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Jaco, Costa Rica."
