  • Full-service escape in the middle of a tropical paradise!

"We were two families - 5 adults, 5 kids (between the ages of 4 and 9) - that shared this lovely property for 9 nights in August 2016. Overall, it was a GREAT find! The best feature of the house is the staff that comes with it. The primary manager of the property (Jota) helps you with all your needs - from grocery shopping, to activity arranging, to spotting sloths in the trees above. His wife (Katia) and mother (Carmen) prepare 3 delicious (and voluminous) meals daily and clean up daily, too (even making the beds and doing the laundry!). Such a luxury, and such a huge help in really getting to enjoy a proper vacation. The other main advantages of the house...1, the amazing view; 2, the depth and breadth of wildlife that can be seen from its balconies (e.g., monkeys galore; toucans; sloths; iguanas; and many more); 3, the convenient location (just minutes from Manuel Antonio National Park). A few disadvantages to be aware of, though we are still VERY pleased with our stay overall... 1, the swimming pool is on the back side of the house, away from the main view of the sea/landscape below; 2, the common area (living/dining room) is not air conditioned (though the bedrooms all have units for bedtime); 3, the last 500 meters approaching the house are rough and definitely require a 4x4 vehicle; 4, the layout of the rooms may not accommodate all types of families/groups (i.e., in the main house, there are 2 bedrooms on the ground floor, by the kitchen/dining areas and 1 master bedroom upstairs; there is also one room with a separate entrance from the outside just below the living room area; the guest house is one larger space with a futon that can sleep 1 or 2, and there is an extra room around the back of it with a separate entrance as well). Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this property!!!"

  • Wonderful Stay

"Our family of six had an incredible time staying here at Villa Manuel Antonio! Let me first say that while searching, I messaged the owner, Laurent, and asked him about public transportation availability and ease as one of my sons is on crutches. Laurent called me to let me know that the transportation was fine, but that there were stairs to our floor since we were looking at the lowest level with a small yard for my children to run around in and search for lizards. He was concerned that my son would not be able to do the stairs and wanted to let me know before I booked the villa. He sent me pictures that he took of the stairs and we decided my son would be fine and continued with our booking. It was nice to see that Laurent's concern was for our comfort and enjoyment, even at the risk of us looking elsewhere if we felt our son would have difficulty on the stairs. So, back to the review... Our villa was located on the lowest level with a small yard and a view of the Pacific and the national park. The two bedrooms have king beds and there is a fold out couch in the living room. The bathrooms are large and the villa is a great place to stay. The kitchen comes with all the hardware for preparing meals yourself. The pool also has a nice view and our kids enjoyed swimming in it. During the morning it is in the sunshine, but after lunch it begins to get some shade to offer respite from the heat of the day. Our kids enjoyed the pool everyday. We also saw monkeys, a sloth, numerous birds and some colorful lizards while at the villa. The location is phenomenal. Perched on a hilltop but only steps to the bus that runs to beaches and the park in one direction, and Quepos in the other. There is no need to rent a car, just take the bus. Taxis were also easy to hail. There are also restaurants nearby (try the Falafel Bar), as well as a Bank of Costa Rica, Economy Car Rental and a small convenience store. There was not a lot of walking to these places so it was perfect for our son. It really is an ideal location for getting to wherever you need to go. As for Laurent, he stays on the property which is such a big help for finding whatever you need. He arranges tours and transportation to San Jose or wherever. He can point you in the right direction for food, groceries or any other needs. He is very friendly and a delight to talk with. It was our pleasure to meet him. We highly recommend booking your stay with Villa Manuel Antonio. You won't regret it!"

  • Amazing stay in an amazing house

"We just returned from our trip to Costa Rica, heaven on earth! This is by far my favorite beach of ALL. I have been to Costa Rica 10 times and the privacy you get from this beach is priceless. Not only is it a great beach, but sand dollars galore! The house has its own pool and that is so wonderful not having to share with others. Wonderful farmers market across the road on Saturday's and well worth it. Close to several towns with great food. They really take such good care of this house. I would highly recommend this place. It was so nice being in a gated community and not having to worry. We cooked only a few times but the house had everything we needed to be able to cook more often."

  • Canot convey the awesome of this place. If you hate to camp but love nature this is your place.

"Villa Tekla is your spot if you like "glamping" Camping with all the amenities, refrigerator, stove, TV, WiFi, hot water and a private pool! A very thought out villa that uses the idea of openness to bring you into the surrounding rain forest. I will have to warn that there are no glass windows in the Villa (master bedroom downstairs is fully screened in) and that unnerved me at first, but with the view and everything you'll forget about that in minutes. After spending only 16 hours on the property I saw Toucans, sloths, small poisons looking frogs and a myriad of birds and butterflies I can't even keep track of. Yes nature may visit inside, as we had several birds pop into the rooms, house geckos to help with keeping the bugs down and the special occasion was when a wayward two toed sloth decided to take a stroll along the gates, the main living room windows and overhang. That is something I will never forget. One word of advice don't leave the main white lights on in any room during the night for a long time. We made that mistake the second day and it became bug central, but hey you're visiting a place that has a huge amount of wildlife and to me it was a plus! Waking up to the morning sun (due to damn loud monkeys and birds) on the patio with a coffee was just amazing. The views are spectacular and just being in the canopy of a rainforest is something I doubt anyone would forget. All rooms have very powerful ceiling fans that facilitate the airflow to make the house very comfortable even during times of high heat and humidity. One day reached 98 degrees F 100% humidity but inside it was a comfortable 75-80 F degrees. The tiered layout of the house made me feel like a kid again (I'm 46). Plenty of room for several couples (only 2 of us but could accommodate 4-6 easily) as long as you aren't concerned about privacy, as the house is constructed for maximum airflow to keep it cool so there are very few doors which may make some westerners uncomfortable. And how can you not resist a private pool (just about 6ft deep). Fully functioning kitchen with coffee maker, blender (most important for pina coladas!), toaster, microwave, full size refrigerator and stove and most all pots/pans you can think of. The knives were actually sharp! It's only 1/4 of a mile to a very well stocked market which had more European cheeses than my local grocer in DC does! People in Manuel Antonio are very friendly and helpful. Wesley DC"
