  • Amazing...did I mention how Amazing?

"First let me state that I have used many rentals through some sort of Rental by owner website and Daniel is by the far the most helpful, patient and kind owner we have rented from thus far. Though we were not able to meet him (booo, I wanted to thank him in person) he is a fantastic host. Thank you for everything. Now to the Villa, the pictures do not do this place justice. We rented this home to be the location for our 10-year wedding anniversary/vow renewal ceremony and I'm so glad I didn't go with a modern/Hollywood style beach home. This is pure Costa Rican Art/Architecture. We are spending 7 days here (yes still here) and our group( 5 adults) is simply amazed by this home. The pictures cannot show how large and beautiful each bedroom is, the staircase leading to each bedroom is something you would see out of a movie. Each bedroom has a private bath and shower, plus there is one on the lower level by the outdoor shower for when you are spending time by the pool or cooking in the kitchen. I am an avid cook and the kitchen was amazing. I was very impressed with the high quality cuisinart pots and pans with a layer of copper heat distribution. This is a major plus for those who love to cook. The views are amazing from all angles. You fall asleep to the sounds of various birds and awake to the howler monkeys in the distance. You will be visited by iguanas, bats, and insects but don't be discouraged..It's all part of being surrounded by jungle. Please be diligent with the compost bucket and garbage can. His property is beautiful with amazing tropical plants plus a greenhouse and the compost is needed. The hill to the house is beyond steep but we rented ATVs from Pacific Dirt Roads and had no problems going up the driveway in 2nd or 3rd gear. Lola and Carlos are wonderful staff and you will be truly amazed by this home, host, staff, the residential dogs who would followed me everywhere (Ray) especially, and the views. Please book..You will not be disappointed. One last thing, if you are worried about no AC, don't..being on a hill, with massive windows and the fans will keep you cool all night and sleep like a baby. Thank you again Daniel for everything, you and your home are both truly amazing. Pura Vida!!!"

  • Possibily the best located house in Malpais

"Our family of 5 very much enjoyed our short stay at Casa Celeste: and I agree with the other reviewers. Vicente was welcoming and yet reclusive, the house was rustic, clean and comfortable. The location was the best we say along the shore of Malpais. The owners were responsive and it was easy to book with them. Everything was comfortable and nice. The only thing I missed was a microwave and we got over that quickly. Cold milk with your coffee isn't the end of the world....We had a big truck which was a bit difficult to park in Santa Teresa so I recommend a smaller 4 wheel drive or rent an atv to drive to the store. Visit the tico restaurant Caracoles 2 houses up - wonderful food and very nice hosts. The bakery was excellent, but we preferred to eat breakfast and drink our coffee at the best view in town - Casa Celeste. Visit secret beach at low tide so you can snorkel, but bring your shoes at it's very rocky, but lovely. Make sure you visit Playa Hermosa which I believe is one of the loveliest and safest beaches to swim at in CR. Enjoy!"

  • Stunning house and location

"First off, Maipais is definitely off the beaten path. If you're looking for a place to get away from the rat race of the world, Maipais is as good as I've seen. Rugged dirt roads, friendly non-pretentious people, a beautiful local culture and incredible unspoiled natural beauty. The house is stunning. Beautiful open area with 20' ceilings for the kitchen and living room. Nicely decorated and well appointed with everything you need. Beds were comfy with good quality sheets and pillows. The infinity pool and decks were truly awesome with great outdoor furniture to lounge on. And can't forget the upstairs bathroom with the huge covered, but open air shower. The house is kept very clean by the staff. Nadja (the concierge) along with Juan Carlos and Brenda (maintenance and cleaning) were completely unobtrusive but also very very helpful. If you get a chance, take an ATV tour with Xtreme sports in maipais. Johan is the owner there and if you can, get Jeremy to be your guide as we had a blast on a 9 hour private tour of the region. Some final notes * Make sure to have a 4WD vehicle as you won't be able to get to the house without one. * Costa Rica has ants, geckos, lizards, monkeys.etc. If you are a squeamish person who is used to only traveling to five star resorts, maipais and this house is probably not for you as it is in the jungle. * Google maps works great 90℅ or so of the time, but the two times it didn't it nearly took us into a river at night and to the wrong ferry on our way home. Use common sense and you'll be ok. * We can't wait to come back in 2017."
