  • A comfortable home “in the jungle”

"My wife and I, and our son, his wife and 1 year old son spent 9 days in Casa de Mariposa. The two floor building worked well for our group. Our son and his family slept in the upstairs unit, which has two rooms (and a kitchen – but no living area) and we slept in the downstairs unit (which is like a bachelor apartment with a small living area / kitchen). We all used the kitchen upstairs and greatly enjoyed the upstairs outside deck. The upstairs is quite well equipped. We were comfortable staying there, although a few things could be improved: the damaged wicker deck furniture fixed or replaced, one of the deck ceiling fans fixed (it wobbles a lot), a plug provided for the upstairs kitchen sink, the lower unit door fixed so that it closes without having to turn the deadbolt. The building is in a small gated complex that is full of flora and fauna. We saw more animals just sitting on the deck that we saw on our hikes in area parks. Our most fun sighting when when a troop of squirrel monkeys ran across our roof and then one by one jumped down to a branch on a tree right in front of the deck. We also spotted big lizards, a sloth, macaws, toucans, etc. We enjoyed the shared pool in the complex, although some days it had quite a bit of algae. The on-site property management staff were friendly, although they didn’t speak English, so communication was a challenge. Even the neighbours were very nice – one boosted our battery when it died because I left the lights on. He appreciated the beers I gave him the next day. The complex is located just south of Quepos and north of Manuel Antonio. We rented a car the whole time we stayed there, so we could do day trips. There’s not much within a reasonable walking distance. We did an outing to the Manuel Antonio Park, which we enjoyed, but we enjoyed our outing to Rainmaker Conservation Park even more. The park was more isolated, had many fewer people, the scenery was awesome, and the hanging bridges were fun to walk over. We even went for a swim in a stream’s pool and climbed up to one of its waterfalls. For one beach day, we spent some time on Playa Espadillia, a huge beach in Manuel Antonio, before the park. It has tons of fine sand (which can get very hot) and fun waves to play in. We really enjoyed our stay at Casa de Mariposa and exploring the awesome nature in the complex and sites nearby."

  • Grand house, needs some work

"To be clear, we loved staying here. The house has grand proportions and myriad private nooks, all with great views and a super pleasant pool overlooking the beach. The staff are fantastic and quick to respond to questions and requests. However, it's clear that the house has seen better days. At various times during the week, the shower in our room sprayed all over except in the shower stall, the fridge went warm, the dishwasher gave up, the food disposal stopped working and the freezer succeeded in never producing ice or keeping ice cream frozen. We had ice cream soup after dinner instead. The kitchen with amazing size was unfortunately stocked with a hodgepodge of equipment pieces, some of which worked, little of which matched. Generally, some design editing would refresh this place tremendously. At the end of the day, however, despite the setbacks mentioned, this was a great place to stay with a couple of families, and the kids all had a blast. I would recommend this place to friends even with all the quirks."

  • An Amazing Vacation

"Our stay at the Garden House was amazing. Tito Borge, the chef and on-site concierge really made our stay special by not only cooking delicious and fantastic food, but also by answering any questions we had about anything from activities to Costa Rican culture. Mayra, the housekeeper, gave me a true vacation, by not only tidying up, but she also did our laundry every day. The house and pool were comfortable, relaxing, and everything that makes a vacation a vacation. The Tulemar Resort was fantastic. We visited the private beach nearly every day and found each employee there to be welcoming and extremely helpful. On top of all that, we also saw sloths, monkeys, iguanas, a toucan, and more! It was hard to leave Tulemar and Costa Rica!"

  • We love Manuel Antonio and Mike's place is awesome

"Mike was very quick with responding our inquiry... Almost instantly. He was very kind with allowing us to use his apartment with a very short notice. He even authorized us to do a late checkout at no cost. We loved the place. Every room made us feel at home. If you are interested in cooking, the kitchen had everything needed for. Good restaurants, a supermarket next door, ATM, all within meters away from the apartment. Beautiful view from your living room. Good privacy If you have an account with net flix, you can log in into netflix from two of the tvs. We love a movie at the end of the night :) Manuel Antonio National Park is a must, I like that particular beach inside the park and the trails to get to it. If you rent this apartment, you wont have regrets. It will be your win"
