  • Full-service escape in the middle of a tropical paradise!

"We were two families - 5 adults, 5 kids (between the ages of 4 and 9) - that shared this lovely property for 9 nights in August 2016. Overall, it was a GREAT find! The best feature of the house is the staff that comes with it. The primary manager of the property (Jota) helps you with all your needs - from grocery shopping, to activity arranging, to spotting sloths in the trees above. His wife (Katia) and mother (Carmen) prepare 3 delicious (and voluminous) meals daily and clean up daily, too (even making the beds and doing the laundry!). Such a luxury, and such a huge help in really getting to enjoy a proper vacation. The other main advantages of the house...1, the amazing view; 2, the depth and breadth of wildlife that can be seen from its balconies (e.g., monkeys galore; toucans; sloths; iguanas; and many more); 3, the convenient location (just minutes from Manuel Antonio National Park). A few disadvantages to be aware of, though we are still VERY pleased with our stay overall... 1, the swimming pool is on the back side of the house, away from the main view of the sea/landscape below; 2, the common area (living/dining room) is not air conditioned (though the bedrooms all have units for bedtime); 3, the last 500 meters approaching the house are rough and definitely require a 4x4 vehicle; 4, the layout of the rooms may not accommodate all types of families/groups (i.e., in the main house, there are 2 bedrooms on the ground floor, by the kitchen/dining areas and 1 master bedroom upstairs; there is also one room with a separate entrance from the outside just below the living room area; the guest house is one larger space with a futon that can sleep 1 or 2, and there is an extra room around the back of it with a separate entrance as well). Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this property!!!"

  • Canot convey the awesome of this place. If you hate to camp but love nature this is your place.

"Villa Tekla is your spot if you like "glamping" Camping with all the amenities, refrigerator, stove, TV, WiFi, hot water and a private pool! A very thought out villa that uses the idea of openness to bring you into the surrounding rain forest. I will have to warn that there are no glass windows in the Villa (master bedroom downstairs is fully screened in) and that unnerved me at first, but with the view and everything you'll forget about that in minutes. After spending only 16 hours on the property I saw Toucans, sloths, small poisons looking frogs and a myriad of birds and butterflies I can't even keep track of. Yes nature may visit inside, as we had several birds pop into the rooms, house geckos to help with keeping the bugs down and the special occasion was when a wayward two toed sloth decided to take a stroll along the gates, the main living room windows and overhang. That is something I will never forget. One word of advice don't leave the main white lights on in any room during the night for a long time. We made that mistake the second day and it became bug central, but hey you're visiting a place that has a huge amount of wildlife and to me it was a plus! Waking up to the morning sun (due to damn loud monkeys and birds) on the patio with a coffee was just amazing. The views are spectacular and just being in the canopy of a rainforest is something I doubt anyone would forget. All rooms have very powerful ceiling fans that facilitate the airflow to make the house very comfortable even during times of high heat and humidity. One day reached 98 degrees F 100% humidity but inside it was a comfortable 75-80 F degrees. The tiered layout of the house made me feel like a kid again (I'm 46). Plenty of room for several couples (only 2 of us but could accommodate 4-6 easily) as long as you aren't concerned about privacy, as the house is constructed for maximum airflow to keep it cool so there are very few doors which may make some westerners uncomfortable. And how can you not resist a private pool (just about 6ft deep). Fully functioning kitchen with coffee maker, blender (most important for pina coladas!), toaster, microwave, full size refrigerator and stove and most all pots/pans you can think of. The knives were actually sharp! It's only 1/4 of a mile to a very well stocked market which had more European cheeses than my local grocer in DC does! People in Manuel Antonio are very friendly and helpful. Wesley DC"

  • Beautiful and relaxing

"We loved our stay at Casa Alta. There were five of us and there was more than enough room - the house could easily have held 2 or 3 more without feeling crowded. Our kids loved the pool- it was a nice size for the 3 of them to play in. The AC in the bedrooms worked well, and the WIFI was reliable. We were pleasantly surprised to find that all of the furnishings had been updated and the bathrooms renovated, so the house was even more lovely than in the pictures. The house is a short drive to the beach and to the park. We found it convenient to have a rental car--many of the restaurants and supermarkets are walking distance, but the car allowed us to do a variety of day trips to other parks and nearby towns. Natalia set up a night tour for us, which was amazing. We highly recommend the house- it met all of our expectations."

  • Amazing House!

"This house was perfect for our family of 5. The view is worth the walk. The caretaker, Bismark, was so kind and helpful. It's comforting that he lives very close to the house. Beds were nice; kitchen was user friendly. The outside shower was perfect. House was nicely stocked with games, books, and useful picture cards for local animals. We saw tons of animals from the decks - monkeys, toucans, hummingbirds, etc. We enjoyed Bismark's dogs which hung out and made things feel like home. We had a 4x4 and were able to drive down to a beach just below the house (you can park on the beach). House had a small cooler, a few beach chairs and great beach towels. There was a second beach a short drive or walk below the house where you can pay someone a small amount to watch your car while you enjoy the beach. We saw a few sloths here and we rented snorkel gear at this beach. (Snorkeling was just ok here and one of my kids stepped on a sea urchin, but that has nothing to do with the house review). Bottom line, you cannot go wrong with this place. It's in a little community of other houses where you feel close to people (which is sometimes comforting in a foreign country), but it is also private. It was hot as fire while we were there, but there were several fans around the house. It's the ULTIMATE coffee or wine on the deck kind of place. I wish I was there right now!"
