"My husband and I recently stayed in the beach house for three weeks. This was our 5th trip to Costa Rica (a different location each time) and have seen a lot of this gorgeous country and thus, we didn't feel the urge to run out everyday and be "tourists". Cabuya is small and quiet, and away from the craziness of Montezuma. This is the perfect spot to lay back and relax. Each morning we carried the chaise loungers down to the beach under the shade of the almond trees and spent hours watching the pelicans and herons feeding feeding out on the water. Or gaze up in the trees, and we could watsh numerous other birds, squirrels, and howler monkeys crossing the property. There were a lot of female monkeys with tiny babies on their backs - what a delight! One morning there were two rays caught in the tidal pool in front of the house. When the tide comes in, swimming or just plain lolling in the warm water is heaven. Oliver purchased several "pool noodles" for the house. Just wrap one under yourself and float listlessly in the water forever.
The house is very private with an empty lot next door on one side and a seldom used, little house on the other. Beyond that, is a small hotel but even though it was high season, we rarely saw anyone. I'll bet no more than a dozen people walked by on the beach on any given day. That said, we did make some great new friends there. The beach itself, is great for long beach walks - right out to the Island if you feel so inclined. We always rent a "fully equipped" place when we travel with the hopes of cooking most of our meals ourselves. More often than not, kitchens in rentals are poorly equipped or have a half size fridge and/or stove making meals very difficult. The opposite is true for this beach house - it has everything you need and all in good condition (great pots & pans, good utensils, mixing bowls, the works). With the local fisherman just down the road (fresh tuna, snapper, barracuda, shrimp, and more), plenty of fresh fruit, other necessities around, and a great kitchen, we were finally able to prepare the majority of our own wonderful meals. Bath and beach towels were newish, big and fluffy - another thing that does not seem to be common in rentals. A very comfortable place to stay! The only drawback when we were there was that it hadn't rained in a very long time and because the road is only gravel, it could be quite dusty. However, everything else was so wonderful, we just carried on and ignored this."
