  • Came as strangers...left as friends

"We stayed at Casa Nirvanita for 10 absolutely wonderful days. This was our second trip to the Drake Bay area and we will definitely will becoming back next year. Unlike other places we have stayed in the past, Casa Nirvanita more than exceeded our expectations. First and foremost German and Clara were outstanding hosts and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. One of the many highlights of our trip was getting to know them over fresh grilled fish and drinks. Their advise on provisions, transportation arrangements and activities were all excellent. The house was beautiful, comfortable and very functional. We enjoyed the cool breezes in the master bedroom, the multiple hammocks and the very well organized kitchen. The beach was only 50 meters from the house and was beautiful and usually private. We used Casa Nirvanita as our hub for several day trips to include snorkeling at Cano Island, fishing with Captain Willy on the Reel Escape and hikes through the national park to Rio Claro and Drake Bay. On days we didn't have activities planned we enjoyed relaxing on the beach or fishing from the kayak provided by German. Highly recommend fishing with Captain Willy early in your trip, as we brought home enough fish to feed a small village. Also had good luck fishing from the kayak on the rocks 100 yards off the beach. Be sure to ask German to show you their whole property. We felt it was even more beautiful than the Corcovado National Park. German is a wealth of knowledge on the local flora of the region. We came as strangers and left as friends. So looking forward to next year at Casa Nirvanita!!"

  • Great place to relax and commune with nature.

"Quaint, comfortable home in paradise. Perfect for a family, several individuals, two couples or a romantic getaway. Loved the fact that we could coexist with the wildlife. Three different types of monkeys visited our front yard trees. Scarlet Macaws flew across the yard several times a day and basilisk lizards frolicked beside the wading pool. The beach abutted the front yard. No need for beach umbrellas as beautiful trees provided a natural canopy. We enjoyed swimming in the ocean and kayaking. One morning a couple of dolphins played about 200 feet from my kayak. We also enjoyed watching the surfers. The caretaker of the home took us on a great hike. He was knowledgeable about the plants and wildlife. There is a restaurant/bar within walking distance that served excellent food. The owner of the home, Rick, was very pleasant and accommodating. He provided lots of useful advice before our trip and was very responsive during the trip with any questions that came up. It was wonderful to have wifi access in the home. It made it easy to stay in contact with family when necessary."

  • INCREDIBLE!

"We loved every minute at Atrevida! We could not have chosen a better location or house! The open-air design is so unique yet we felt extremely comfortable and at one with nature the entire time! The sounds of nature were all we'd hear as we drifted off to sleep. Howler monkeys and macaws were our morning wake-up call. Carlos is one of a kind with a heart of gold! Luis made incredible meals for us with fresh local ingredients. The safes in the rooms were available but we never used them as we felt completely comfortable with the people and our surroundings. The pool was our favorite spot to relax before dinner and Carlos kept it beautifully maintained. Pascal provided a wealth of knowledge and helped us book wonderful excursions with locals. The beach BBQ was incredible! Carlos and Luis spent all day preparing it and what resulted was a evening of a lifetime. We will be back very soon!"

  • Unique adventure

"Well, once we found it, things improved. The directions were by no means clear and there are no signs to help. The road in is HORRIBLE & SCARY and we turned back a couple of times before we decided this had to be it. 4x4 vehicle is a MUST since the road is very rough and full of good size rocks. One part of the road is washed out near a stream that is 12 feet below the road and there is just enough for the vehicle to pass. We finally found the locked gate and the key was on the opposite side from where we were told we would find it. Owner met us at the parking spot and he helped us with our luggage. It was the only time we saw him all week. A house keeper (Anna) came mid-week to change bedding etc... We did not see any monkeys at the tree house all week but we were gone a lot. Every morning around 4 am the howler monkeys began their noises but we never saw them. There were insects all the time but despite the size of some, they were harmless. No mosquitoes while we were there. We used the netting over the bed where the two college girls slept because the bugs freaked them out. Some tiny ants occupied the second level bedroom, so the girls slept in the bed pictured on the main level. Showers worked well, limited hot water but as warm as the weather was we did not need it. There were some bats occupying cool dark areas of the Tree House but they did not bother us other than some droppings on one counter. We did not find a microwave to use and the safe key did not work. The flush toilets worked well, as did the range & refrigerator/freezer. Overall, I would suggest that the listing be updated to reflect the fact that the road in is very rough and a 4x4 would be needed and time frames be adjusted. It took a good 10 minutes to get from the highway to the Tree House. Puerto Jimenez is another 10-12 minutes once you reach the highway. The property was indeed clean. Wifi worked well but it was slow, so don't plan on streaming or doing lots of complex work via the internet. Communications with Blondie were not the best. We got some messages that were actually not for us and several messages that she said that were sent to us never arrived. But it all worked out. Blondie did provide a great deal of help arranging for our car and booking a couple of tours for us. This is an opportunity for a great adventure. Those who don't like insects or bats will freak out but you won't need an alarm clock. The howler monkeys will see to that."
